So glad to here you're seeing some uplift in lessons. Well deserved sir! I've been doing my best to swing like this for about 15 rounds now although still need to keep honing the skill as I am still a 10 hcp but able to score high single figures. I never understood 'cracking the whip' till now. On good strikes it sounds like a gun shot! One of the best parts to swinging like this is that I feel like I'm not doing anything and forces are just playing for me so consistency has no other choice but to happen. I can devote all my attention to strategy and playing the game. Wishing you great success!
After bumping into and chatting to Milo on the range last year at Trump international Aberdeen I watched all of his videos multiple times . I have dropped from hcp of 8 to a 5 in that time and hit it 30 yards further with less effort . His videos and content are a great resource for students of the golf swing. Watching him hit balls is also an education which I was fortunate enough to see. I reckon if I could spend time with this guy getting a lesson that scratch golf is possible even for a 46 year old like me. Pity he lives in the states and not here in Scotland . Congratulations Milo on great you tube content you deserve whatever success is coming your way. I suspect mere mortals will not be able to afford your services soon 😂
Thanks Milo. After 60 years of flipping and throwing your ‘passive’ release feels so much more consistent and confidence inspiring. To be honest I have found the technique very easy to pick up and it has much to rekindle my love of golf again. Well explained and demonstrated.
Milo. Keep the videos coming and appreciate your baseball perspective as a former college player myself. I’ve spent 10 years in golf now and still “fighting” old habits from baseball...this is starting to click for me and bring back some of those natural feelings of easy power. Any videos in the arsenal or tips to keep hands relaxed? I always was able to drop my hands down and inside to a baseball but that was disaster when I started golf and produced big bananas.
Milo, this was a brilliant lesson for me. It solves a riddle of how I was getting in my own way and why "slinging" my arms seemed to produce good ball flights. Now you have explained why. So I can get committed to practicing a sling. Thank you!
You are so correct. When I try to muscle it I lose at least two club lengths of distance. When I do as instructed by you, I gain back my distance plus a little more. One of the best instructors I've ever learned from. Almost makes me wish I lived in Phoenix, Arizona.
Fantastic. Devouring all your videos. The best instruction I’ve ever seen on RUclips. Already seeing some great results. I think you’ve totally nailed it, thanks very much for posting. Will be recommending you to anyone who will listen!
I really liked your explanation of how the club should unload. I have spent many years working on how to use my hands in the golf swing. I am going to concentrate on pivoting and pulling through the handle. Thanks
Excellent content. It seems to me that this requires a full pivot way past impact, and if your focus is hitting the ball, you won’t get the sling effect. Right? I’d like to suggest a video on the tempo of the pivot. I think my tendency is to get quick from the top, and putting a lot of effort into a too short a pivot. Probably why my half speed swings go about as far as full speed.
Great teaching Milo its the same as pushing a trailer verses pulling a trailer. A lot of teachers call it handle dragging but the centrifugal force from the weight of the club makes for the release
You can immediately go to the range, and "Tow" that club with short little swings and feel the difference in what that is compared to a weak release. Now, we have the ...but Phil Mickleson.....yes....it's like the quote from Iron Man....OBADIAH Tony Stark was able to do it in a cave! -- with a box of scraps! HEAD ENGINEER: Well...I’m not Tony Stark. Milo's lessons have truly made a difference in my '8' handicap ....hope to get to a 5 in a year. In reality, that would be a great accomplishment considering I've been playing this game for many years now. It is hard to truly improve your game once your habits are set in...we all know. Lucky, you are, if you're just starting out and watching/taking Milo's lessons.
Milo, it’s great to hear your instruction practice is growing. I think you’re really on to something, even more success is ahead. I hope you and your family are well. Looking forward to my next trip to Superstition Mountain. David
Hi Milo, Mike Austin said that we need to initiate the throw of the club head in the circle from the top (by the hands not arms) and the body will react at the bottom (hitting area) to release the wrist in half circle. I think the throw is good because it give you the right amount of momentum the club head need to swing thru.
Milo, I subscribed after watching you and Eric Cogorno, I purchased the Malaska book which is way to large to sit and easily read. Keep it simple makes it easy.
Very good explanation. The Golf club will release/unload by physics even without the upward arc of the handle. Its because of the arc. The angle will always release thru centrifugal force, which is always present in the Golf swing. The crucial part, which you have learned to time so well is, to sequence the body movements in a manner so that the hands are transported in front of your left thigh, before the wrist unload completely. In fact they only appear to be in front of the left thigh. Actually you hit of the right side of the body.
Agree completely that arms get pulled through impact by the rotation. However, this doesn't work (for me) unless I feel like my arms drop in front of my body BEFORE I straighten my left left leg and rotate. If I feel like the rotation starts first
Interesting concepts. It's getting easier to see how and why Milo and Malaska went their separate ways. In reality, the end results of their methods will create better ball-striking, but their teaching methods seem to separate more each year.
I just recently discovered Milo’s channel and have been a fan of Mikes since I started learning how to play. Honesty, I think they are both teaching the same thing, but they have a polar opposite way of describing and teaching it. I think they are both great and some will understand Mikes way of teaching, and some Milo’s.
When I do what this guy says I do hit the ball and release the club a lot better. I feel like when I don’t try and do the malaska release it works better. The release will happen automatically when you swing to the left and keep left arm close to the body
You and Eric Cogorno seem to be on the same page for releasing... big fan. I've switched to this style and seen insane gains in consistency and distance.
Agree with body/pivot release But I have to load my hands/arms on the backswing esp right hand/arm/shoulder for this release to work.Maybe cos i was taught passive/soft arms on backswing, i think Hogan called it "live tension" You can feel this with right arm only swings, push down right hand butt goes forward club head goes to right foot, elbow loads to club parallel, upper arm/shoulder takes it to waiters tray. If you doe this gently and the body releases the arm it will feel like you have a giant paint brush painting target live through impact. If you do it fast/athletically you will feel like the great Gary Player, you are striking a match.Yes its a body release but if the right arm isnt loaded its not connected.
I think the hard part is being consistent in the body movement. There is a lot of room for error if you tilt too much one way or you slide too much. etc. Plus how do you let physics work if you don't need to hit with a full swing?
Question unrelated to this specific video. You hear about getting "stuck" all the time, it is usually talked about in reference to the arm being stuck behind the body. My question: can't the body get stuck without the arms? Can't the hips or torso get into positions that prevent or inhibit the chest and shoulders from turning through? I've had occasion where my body inexplicably stops (sometimes when my primary swing thought is to rotate) and my arms fling through, usually way to the right. In severe cases I top the ball, most often the result is a weak shot, sometimes the shot is serviceable but in every case it puts tremendous strain on my lead arm, wrist and hand, to the point of causing injury to the thumb and wrist of my lead hand. It doesn't seem to be my arms that stop or are stuck, but the rotation stops or is stuck, especially in my upper body and shoulders. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
G Weed watch my video on how to turn the hips. The cause of stalling rotation is generally too much slide and tilt which is what most people do when they try to rotate.
Hi Milo I think i am changing from a passive throw release to an active passive release! In order to have a dynamic passive release i have to actively load the forearms on the backswing. I know this sounds stupid but I got onto it via Pete Cowans axe drill,I dont know why it works as opposed to a normal hogan waggle but I shot 3 over in tough conditions in a senior comp today. Are you familiar with PC axe drill and why it works for me.
@@MiloLinesGolf Im guessing that if you have played a lot of baseball as a batter you have learnt to activate your forearms due to the weight of the bat and absorbing the impact of the ball.the opposite of a pitcher but ive never played baseball! anyway thanks for all the great videos
Awesome stuff. Just curious, wondering what swing weight you play? Reason I ask is it’s easier to feel these moves with light swing weight D1(light) vs some D4 stuff and 5 I have. Thanks!
It's funny, I always tried to explain this to my brother. I'm like...I have two swings, one where I take the club back and it stops and everything falls down and I throw the club around the arc of the swing....the other, I start the club back a little quicker and has it starts to raise up to my waist, I'm already wound up and starting to head back to the target, and the club reaches the top and is flung back down through the ball on it's own, I do nothing to release it. It's all forces that are created by my early move back in the opposite direction. But I never really knew what was going on until you explained it here...and to be honest, I really still haven't chosen one way, although I feel as though the latter would be much more reliable if I could hone it, as it still seems to be easy to mess up if you try to transition too violently or quickly, there's like a tiny little "wait" move in there as the club goes back.
Biggest hurdle to passive release is understanding the fact that you need to either have strong grip or neutral grip with flattened or bowed wrist which again needs to match with your body rotation. Took me quite a while to understand this.

Just to clarify, it's more so your wrists are passive and not your arms right? Your analogy almost made it seem like your body slings your arms and club but that will just get your arm stuck to your chest which is a speed killer
