@Crazy Coyote But did Doctor Who have the premise of the character leaping from life to life in his own lifetime with someone like Al to talk to? There were some elements from that show but the rest of it was completely fresh way to do time travel and anthology.

i always tear up when the narrator says "he awoke to find himself trapped in the past, facing mirror images that were not his own and driven by an unknown force to change history for the better" this paired with the music, is such a somber moment
What a truly unique, hopeful and goodwilled premise. Scientific discovery trapping a kindhearted person in a loop of constantly helping those in need. There is something so... Just so nice about it. Come home, Sam.
I became a military historian in part because I was watching these opening credits when a gasper moment revealed the iconic cover of Life magazine that flashes by with a medic in a hastily tied bandage treating another soldier also with bandages around the head. I'd heard my parents and grandparents talk about seeing my father on the evening news and having to wait 3 days before they found out he was wounded but being patched up so he could go back to join his unit...just without the best friend who'd been killed trying to make things easier for my injured dad as they tried to pull in a third soldier wounded even worse. What no one had ever mentioned was that they also put together a lot of stills to do a photo spread of coverage of the war. Without this credit sequence, I'd never have known that! i already was interested in history, but thinking of all the stories that did NOT get told find their way out pretty much sealed the deal for me!
