Dat was the best battle Ive seen,I was there backstage & all the djs were freakin out!!! LOL.Was awesome to be there, worth the 30hr flight from New Zealand. DJ Reminise.
wasn't really a direct shot considering at the time i-emerge dropped this diss, akakabe hadn't done any scratching... so pretty much it was just a generic 'you cant scratch diss', that he dropped after the opponent did a juggle... and despite akakabe's skips, his juggle was way more tech/stylish that merge's... like merge isn't wack or anything, akakabe's just flipping some sick styles, merge was doing the same ish he always does
I can see why they'd give it to akakabe. i-emerge was sick, super clean, and technical, but if we take what akakabe did 2nd round against even both i-emerge rounds, then it's the innovation for what he's doing with the turntables that won it for akakabe. Yes, I know Kentaro already used the needle on the label thing before, but the transforms with the line switches combined with the needle on the label was admittedly pretty damn good. I wouldn't blame the judges for going either way on this one. Damn good battle.
During the years when Dj's such as A-Trak, Craze, Woody, and many others took part in the battles, printed vinyl was not easy as it is today: the times have changed! But believe me, if they had done this, the result would not change simply because we look at the skills. If a turntablist is powerful, no matter that he uses original records or custom records.
Akakabe deserve it. Simplicity and 100% effective routines. Even when needle jumps and the routine he did was the same as 1997 DMC Finals using original tracks and tools !!! I-Emerge custom records give less points . Of course he´s not bad but simplicity is what i think is winning here.
Akakabe is also using custom vinyl trust me I know. He would have lost lots of points if he hadn't recovered so well from the needle skipping. Just the best battle out there, apart from Noize at the Superman battle for supremacy. He destroys everyone including Shortkut (ISP). Look it up, it's old but wow. His lyric cutting steals the show. 🏴
yeah akakabe had a bit of a problem with the record skipping the first round, but even still his set was alot more technical and nu skool sounding then I emerge.
to make it simple, ive been a battle dj for 4 and a half years now and i can totally do what akakabe does an this battle, but im nowhere near merges skills and style. seriously! hes one of the best toghether with kentaro and craze. oh and of course q-bert on the scratching-only side. hehe at least thats my opinion. n.n
I like I-emerge, but i like Akakabe more. Though I'm not sure if akakabe really won this. His 2nd round was kick ass, but I-emegre kicked his ass in the first round
@layzeee If you decide to bring your own turntables to practice during a competition you are taking part of, there isn't any kind of problem and nobody can prevent you from doing this simply because you are using what is yours under your own responsibility...
I don't really think Akakabes routines were staticky sounding...I think he brought his own creative style into the competition, and it's very good that he doesn't sound old.
I also was in the 2004 USA DMC.. Merge was only guy aloud to bring his own tables to the Battle and practice on them backstage. you can ask anyone in that battle and they'll tell you the same.. I remember asking him if I could practice my set real quick on them.. he said,, " I brought these all the way from Florida". I guess that ment No! WTF is that shit..
Why did he bring his own turntables? They were just normal Technics, weren't they? Also, what happened to I-emerge? He was the one World Champ that just seemed to disappear after he stopped battling.
@@j-boogiebrown9961 I've always wondered the same thing myself. He dropped an incredible 'essential mix' on BBC radio in the UK, and then seemed to disappear off the planet
Nu skool sounding? Check Akakabe´s set DMC 1997 or 1998... he does the same routine with the same track! (that big bell melody) ...but i love him! haahhaah!
Merge def won. A lot of the time, the DJ that sounds different throughout the whole evening has an edge though. Merge murdered him though. Even though he had some custom recs, that shit is hard to pull and remember.
i agree with you..in 2nd set ie merge throws a direct shot against the oponent "you can't scratch" and akakabe just threw a set and tried to mixed it up, he was overjoyed with that one but i think ie merge was the winner here
Charles from DMC let this guy get away with so much BS that year.. even at the new york supremacy a week or so later more BS.. the judges let him start over in the final round cause he fucked up, even when he was over a minute into his routine.. WHEN IT COMES TO THE DMC I-EMERGE GET SPECIAL TREATMENT..
come on guys! its absolutely clear that merge won this battle, akakabe definitely went for the crowd and some how managed to win, but his set wasnt too technical or original as some of you guys claim, it sounds kinda sloppy to me, and the skipping needle problems and worn out records didnt help much. merge's style is always gonna be my favorite! he;s f'in agressive and a total show off. and his juggle is just unbeatable!
i also saw that they let him start over in new york 2004 dmc supremacy. merge also had his own tables to practice before his main rounds. the game (and it is just a business game) for the most part is & has been rigged year after year. its no different than this year's winner, last year, and so on. let's see what "champion" is being set up this year for their spot. 2010 already: we gonna be sheeple or people?
Good battle........i like i emerge, but round one goes to akakabe. his routine was wicked...........i emerge cameback in round two. mutha fucker dont scratch anymore, they just juggle that techno shit............Bad
i emerge took it easily.akakabe went 4 the crowd and he won em over...big deal.some judges need their head read.show some balls and go against the crowd.ak is good but that was an awful decision.
Dat was the best battle Ive seen,I was there backstage & all the djs were freakin out!!! LOL.Was awesome to be there, worth the 30hr flight from New Zealand.
DJ Reminise.
Wha , did we meet that year ?
AKAKABE so dope.... records jumping in round 1 and still triumphs, didn't flinch, didn't break a sweat, and powered on and nailed it....
Loved having the final say as one of the judges .. Final vote to Akakabe !!大和魂
no way !! please come back akakabe!!!! turntablism waitin you !!!
wasn't really a direct shot considering at the time i-emerge dropped this diss, akakabe hadn't done any scratching... so pretty much it was just a generic 'you cant scratch diss', that he dropped after the opponent did a juggle...

Best battle I have ever seen 💯
ONE OF THE BEST BATTLES !!!! GREAT!!!
One of the illest battles by two of the best on the plante.
I can see why they'd give it to akakabe. i-emerge was sick, super clean, and technical, but if we take what akakabe did 2nd round against even both i-emerge rounds, then it's the innovation for what he's doing with the turntables that won it for akakabe. yo
ayo
He whooped merges ass.
Also, 6:06 ISH that's transition is sick as... always loved akakabe since I first saw him in 97, fresh style
During the years when Dj's such as A-Trak, Craze, Woody, and many others took part in the battles, printed vinyl was not easy as it is today: the times have changed!

they both dope but different styles. Nice upload

god DAMN Iemerg just DISSES the shit outta 'em! I love the diss aspect of battles man. So well rounded
yeah akakabe had a bit of a problem with the record skipping the first round, but even still his set was alot more technical and nu skool sounding then I emerge.
youre right...I emerge has got more Flavour
Greatest come back in history
akakabe use original vinyl and the set is so unique and nice . Of course he deserve to win
Akakabe was clean.
Enough!
Akakabe rocks...in beat juggling
my heart . . .
to make it simple, ive been a battle dj for 4 and a half years now and i can totally do what akakabe does an this battle, but im nowhere near merges skills and style. seriously! hes one of the best toghether with kentaro and craze. oh and of course q-bert on the scratching-only side.

doesnt akakabe do that king cut routine in 98?
I don't really think Akakabes routines were staticky sounding...I think he brought his own creative style into the competition, and it's very good that he doesn't sound old.
@djmdx craze for me! dude is fantastic, not to say i emerge isnt, but Craze is something else all together!
now that was a sick ass battle
This is fire
I am still mad at my best I-Emerge loss *in 2020* You can hear the MC was sleeping on the mic!! 5:05
🖕🏿😟🖕🏿
May it's in his record: Audiocide. Don't know though.
best battle
Japanese dude killed it. I cant even front.

am i the only one that thinks merg sweeped the floor with akakabe??
Agreed. ieMerg shouldve been double champ at the DMC 2004.
also I don't understand how he lost? someone give me some insight on that...
Nu skool sounding?
Check Akakabe´s set DMC 1997 or 1998... he does the same routine with the same track! (that big bell melody)
...but i love him! haahhaah!
6:18 madness
Merg lost this battle. But all in all he's the better one I think. His style blows definitely everything away! Respect!!!
as much as i'd like to agree with you...but akakabe won that one..
Hmmm, so the judges didn't like him for his custom made vinyles... Who said there were any handicap in this match-up?
*"Who ever said that these vinyls were ever a handicap to these battles!?"*
-____- I-Emerge got OD robbed!
Merge def won. A lot of the time, the DJ that sounds different throughout the whole evening has an edge though. Merge murdered him though. Even though he had some custom recs, that shit is hard to pull and remember.
dude they musta been in japan for him to win, phuk that!!!!
clean shitfrom both of them. akak was definately more musical wit it though
i think a good battle would be i emerge vs fly
Fly gonna win
Aka-ka-ka BE ~!!!!!!
i agree with you..in 2nd set ie merge throws a direct shot against the oponent "you can't scratch" and akakabe just threw a set and tried to mixed it up, he was overjoyed with that one but i think ie merge was the winner here
bad boy bill

that was no diss against merge man
i remember this,, not for nothing but ie.merg burned Akakabe in this heat. My vote is with Merg, regardless he went on to win the world.
@bwizzy yeah he does. The DMC judges robbed him that year. and last year.
Damn I Emerge got robbed.

Magic fingers
I emerge got Robbed!!!!!!!!!!!!
akaakabe ist technisch versierter und ausgefeilter...
Emerge won 1st round ,akakabe won 2nd...But emerges 2nd was beter than akakabe's 1st
LOL!
I.e merge is more likely to win this one...
hateing on pressed records is over rated. it's the next level get use to it.
haha.....merge steckt ihn weg. akaakabe wirkt dagegen voll verkrampft.
The winner I-Emerge!!
akakabe def more creative and unique...it was differen't to see vs i emerge was standard american routine no originality.
Akakabe should of lost because his needle skipped!!!! whats up with the judges!!!
