What water repellent should you buy? Today I put to the test three different water repellents. If you plan on spending any amount of time outside camping no doubt sooner or later you will be dealing with rain. So in this video, I'm going to test three water repellents on my hats to see which one repels water the best. I have two made by camp dry and another one this a silicone water repellent. After doing this video I was shocked to find out that the heavy duty camp dry water repellant did not perform as good as their standard camp dry water repellent. But the third one I was using worked the best even after continuous spurts of water on the hat it continued to beat up and roll right off. I applied all three as instructed by the manufacturer the best that I could and the non-camp dry version was a clear winner.

I watched a lot of different videos about waterproofing spray today.
Yours was the best. Mostly because you use three different kinds and you actually tested them with water afterwards.
I'm buying that Atsko spray. Thanks.

I'm glad you tested these products since I always had wondered which products would be better. I've tried several failures and have continued to look for one which works!

I use Atsko on everything. Car interiors/exteriors, porch furniture, sneakers, coats, TV/UTV. I mean anything and everything other than metals or wood. Love this stuff!

Atsko sprayed a cordura hunting bag, great coverage and water resistance. The test, to be fair, should have used the same type hat/material. Hats vary in thickness, composition, seams, etc. Atsko worked well on tent seam also.

Good!!!!! I’m Glad I bought the Right product for my NEW TENT ⛺️!!!!!! Would you do the inside ?????????
I know your supposed to make sure you have ventilation while you’re sleeping because of condensation on the inside Right ????? I lost my camper during hurricane Mathew so I’m back to tent camping .
We’re disabled and we miss camping soo much we are willing to start all over.
This will be our first time waterproofing our tent I believe. It’s been over 20 years since we went in a tent.
I wish we could afford a camper because my wife has to sleep with oxygen every night, that means electricity has to be at the site . Pain in the butt , but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to do what ya love and miss so dearly.
Hey thank you for the Review. Just wanted to know about the inside. Hope to see y’all out there.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I would not recommend spraying the inside at all. I would only do the outside. Sorry to hear you lost your camper in hurricane Matthew, but I’m glad to see you’re willing to get back out there. And you’re right needing to have electricity for your wife and setting that up might be a pain but if it’s something you both love it’s worth it. Thanks again for taking the time to comment and happy camping.

Atsko makes several products only makes top quality products. As a hunter the water repellent, uV killer and sports wash is high value and low cost. Can’t ask for more.

Nothing outperforms Atsko Water-Guards. Camp Dry is absolutely worthless. Also the reason you repeat shake Atsko is that they use CO2 as a propellant. Camp Dry uses isopropyl butane, cheap and not environmentally friendly.

Thanks so much, had been looking at the Atsko product & wondering if it will work & best pricing (trying to get locally to pick up-saw at Ace Hardware store). Need for older canopy covers for my 10 x 10 quick set shelters. I'm also looking to seal the seams of the corners. Any recommendations for that? Thanks so much.

Will the atko stay work on rain jackets?..I see a lot of people talking about it making there tents change color..make white look yellow,ect..thanks

    • @twocampinggurus5555

It will work on some rain jackets depends on the material. As far as color changing, I always recommend trying the product in an inconspicuous space first. Hope that helps thanks for the question.

I'm sure there's a difference in results between spraying from the recommended 7-10 inches away and the 3-5 inches away method that you utilized. It would be nice to know the results using the directions from the makers. You sprayed the water from 7-10 inches, but not the repellents. Just saying

I can't believe you didn't start this video with slow close-ups of each product instead of waving them around 4 ft from the camera....
Aren't BOTH of those "Camp Dry" products from the company Kiwi ?? You never said, and we of course couldn't see the labels from that far off.
... and if you were going to do this video, why leave out the other prime competer, 3M Outdoor Scotchguard ? 😱

Maybe because that didn't look like you were spraying 7 - 10 inches away from the hats. At least to me anyway.
