Scene is so good because it shows Finlays vulnerability but the swearing at the end makes it light hearted. Its how the characters break the barrier, like a metaphorical fist bump.
This is why, right from the start, Finlay was never as impressed or intimidated by Reacher as everybody else. He knew Reacher was good, but not infallible. He couldn't even see the basic truth about a person he counted as an ally because of a blind spot created by his own pride. But they both lost the person they loved the most to sheer senseless, random tragedy, and they both wanted to do the right thing despite the whole world telling them otherwise. That's why, right from the start, they made good partners.
Very well said partner, glad people like you love this show as much as me. There's layers to this onion that I can't explain then I find comments like yours and I feel understood
What I like is that this is one of the few cases where Reacher was wrong about someone. The look on face said it all and tried to justify it by saying “that’s not what you told me” but it’s what he told himself, Finley never did tell him. His intuition that had been working since he arrived at Margrave but it was one case where it didn’t and I think he kind of felt some guilt about giving him a hard time about it. It’s a rare but humble moment to see.
Yeah and IMO it's something the show desperately needed. I don't know if this moment also happens in the book, but from the perspective of someone watching the show, Reacher is a great and fun character to watch but comes awfully close of treading the line of being "too good" at everything he applies himself to. Big, strong, fast, knowledgeable in countless different technical fields, wins every fight, and has Sherlock Holmes-esque skills when it comes to observation/deductive reasoning. Again, this is not a complaint and indeed Reacher being a veritable force-of-nature is a pervasive theme in both the live-action and text mediums... but it's good as a viewer to occasionally be reminded that he is, at the end of the day, still ultimately human. He makes mistakes and he is vulnerable to his own presumptions and preconceived notions.
@@SaftonYT I havent read this particular book but ive read other reacher books and Reacher isnt omniscient in the books. He gets caught out, gets outsmarted (in individual instances but he always wins the fight), makes mistakes, etc. Its just that overall he is right a hell of a lot more than he is wrong, and when someone bests him at one facet he usually can beat them by relying on the other skills he has. People who outsmart him usually cant outfight him or out plan him, if they can out fight him he can usually out think them, etc.
I’m waiting until all episodes have been aired, then I’ll binge watch season 1 & season 2. I do the same thing with The Mandalorian. Now that I have to wait, possibly, another year, I’ll binge watch seasons 1 & 2, the BOBF, & then the 3rd season of The Mandalorian. My husband said I was weird. I said, “You’re just now figuring that out after 31 yrs of marriage?” Here was his response, 😦🤨😣 This was my response, 😈
A core part of who Reacher is, he's always detached and walks away, starting with moving frequently with his father's USMC assignments from birth. Out of character for him to do more to stay in touch w Finlay than he did with his immediate family or the 110
Malcolm Goodwin is a terrific actor. He really shines even in small roles. I never forgot him after the first time I saw him in a one-episode role as a detective’s ex-con brother in the excellent New York-based Sherlock Holmes series, Elementary.
Man I wish both supporting cast mates were in the second season, they made the first so awesome. However knowing the books, Reacher has moved on to another place. Can’t wait for Season 2
And I keep old phones so I can hit replay and hear friends ...we do what we NEED to do..somewhere in have film of my daughter and husband..i don't go searching..it would end me and myvgrandson needs me.
All these clip uploads gets me thinking y’all are testing out the hype for a Season 2. If that’s the case, we are all ready and waiting for another season.
for me this was a big reveal because you thought Reacher was right, as soon as Finlay says she died, Reacher is like omfg inside.....it is a Watson and Holmes moment this. PS I wish my name was Finlay, such a cool name. And after Finlay tells him there is no time for Reacher to quip a smart reply, in this scene out of every episode so far, Reacher does appear vulnerable to emotional stuff. " Why didn't you correct me ?" army mentality is awesome. And Tweed is clothing to protect you in autumn to winter, maybe some symbolism why Finlay loves it.
Yeah it had such a warm feel to it, which is what made the violence hot so hard. Next season looks like a colder spy thriller but I’m sure that’s intentional
These little changes from the book sure add a spin to things. I don’t know if it’s better, but it makes Reacher more relatable being wrong and Finlay more profound. In the book his wife leaves him when he retires from the force, because after 20 years of marriage she realized she liked being alone all the time and dredged spending so much time with her husband. They kept all the clues the same though and added this as a little twist for the show. S1 and S2 have a lot of points where reacher is simply wrong about things, and handles situations more for “drama” rather then cold calculated logic.
been confirmed that Reacher season two will arrive sometime in December 2023, though the specific day is yet to be announced. Prime Video officially announced a renewal for Reacher just three days after season one's launch.
When I was in the Army.. Now I'm not in the Army.. that's very true.. so many friends I had in the service.. true good friends.. and outside of it, just not the same.
Symbolism of calling her. If he listens to the recording, thats it, the recording. If he calls her and hears the voice mail, he can mentally pretend that she just didn't pick up, basically holding up the illusion that she's fine, she must be since she's too busy to pick up
I've never understood the voice mail of the dead (?) Idea. Maybe I'm just not using the right mobile company? In all 3 that I've used, voicemails aren't saved forever. 30 days, 90 if you're lucky, then they're erased by the company. Listening every day doesn't matter. Paying a monthly mobile phone bill to keep a voicemail can't really happen, and yet it's used multiple times. Am I misunderstanding? I've used AT&T, Verizon, and US Cellular.
Hmmm say a good show, bad or whenever you think, sure post it, but then to say "i don't care" umm sure you care or you wouldn't waste the time on here. When I "don't care" for something it's not even a thought anymore, and if for some reason whatever it may be i "don't care about" does come to my attention, I just sat huh, move on. So you care. Fooling yourself

Reacher and Finlay had good chemistry
Two good actors with a good script. Doesn't get much better then that.
Reacher is a one man show, homie ... Stay up!!
Definitely, One of the few shows where actually all the characters had good chemistry IMO.
I liked Oscar from the start. So prim and proper, yet he clearly shows a caring, but reserved demeanor.
He shows up in season 2
Seeing Reacher shaken for being so wrong about his assumptions is masterful acting. I’d also love. If they could bring this character into s2 somehow.
You've been heard my son. There is a little cameo in E04

Facts 💯
Honestly one of the best tv series on prime video

I love that he says in season 2 he would’ve recruited Finlay to 110th
that's a surprisingly deep and authentic scene for TV. Really like this series. That scene alone is better than both movies put together.
I haven’t watched either movie. I don’t think they could hold up compared to the series.

Reacher is arrested as a murder suspect in a small town reminds me of In The Heat of the Night so they had to have a Detective Tibbs aka Finley.

A movie only gives you a couple of hours. A series gives you hours on hours.

What is the song in this scene though
great script writing.
The background music sounds like blues and something else mixed. With Reacher thats real gangsta as they say.
