Best part of the game: CJU "panic eating" Nutty Nuts from the box. 😆 **Spoilers (I guess)** It seemed odd that after so much talk of the ghost people in summer clothes, Arthur never saw one. Was the lady with the gruff voice supposed to be one of the cult members that were mentioned? Maybe a guy in old lady drag? And, who _were_ the cult, anyway? This game felt like a bunch of missed opportunities. Even so, CJU's commentary made it fun to watch.
Algorithm keeps censoring my responses. Hopefully you'll see this one. I think the lady with the gruff voice was the ghost of Bea Arthur in Matrix cosplay. 😋
I really liked this. The way the old lady kept wanting you to come outside, trying to trick you. First the van doesn't work. Then the vending machine took her money. Something sinister and unsettling about that.
Amazing how none of these Fears to Fathom clones have actually improved or innovated upon the formula. You'd think even through law of averages it would have happened by now, if only by accident.
yep i agree, and PT managed to change horror as a whole into making everything into walking simulators/horror experiences rather than actual games, horror gaming has really gone downhill fast
Someone _really_ liked FNAF Sister Location. That's where the gag about sitting down after work and snacking on something while watching TV comes from, for the two people in the world who didn't know that. It's even the same key (in Sister Location it was 'Press Space to eat popcorn').
In the "character working the night shift and creepy stuff happens" subgenre, this was one of the most basic games ever. As Chris pointed out it's dull, it's not scary, it is much too dark, the 2 sections at the character's home are completely useless, and the spooky local legend mentioned a few times never actually comes into play, which is a shame. And it has a game breaking bug. Yeesh.
I love how in all of these “shift work” indie horror games, it’s our first day on the job and we’re left on our own and our ‘training’ is a crumby note
So many questions! 😛 "I didn't have time to make any friends, so I had a lot of free time." What?!? Also: The Gas station is open 24/7...why am I turning on the power and unlocking it? Also: If I'm the one turning on the power how is all the signage already powered?
Whole lot of bots commenting, but as someone who actually watched this, I laughed out loud with you in the end when he said "I have to pick up the tray first" 😂😂
Character never washes his hands after using the bathroom and isn't sure why he's creeped out by the old lady who wears her sunglasses at night - Not the brightest (literally and figuratively), no ghosts, or cults . Also, you don't have the option of following the creepy old lady to her car to find out what happens. :-( Maybe next game.
I feel like this desperately wanted to be Lynchian or something, but why did it set up so much without any payoff? Families in summer clothes? Ghosts? That one guy who came in and ate? they got so fixated on Grandma Goggles I think they forgot what direction they were going in with their story. I'm not saying every game has to be totally unique but this was less "inspired" so much as it was just taking set moments and complete scenes from other games and just stitching them together haphazardly. Which is a shame because the thumbnail of Granny Goggles was what made me want to watch so bad....elderly women aren't usually portrayed that way, it's a cool idea.
"So the combination is... one, two, three, four? That's the stupidest combination I've ever heard in my life! That's the kind of thing an idiot would have on his luggage!"
First! Game recommendation! Confronted looks like a game you might enjoy - medieval horror where you build your own hiding spots. Looks like fun! Second, one of these days, I want a horror game where it's an actual job sim, but you have horror stuff to deal with. Like working a gas station, but there's a werewolf outside you have to keep from breaking in, eating customers, or raiding your trash or supply trucks. Or ghosts who knock your shelves over and make a mess. Something horrifying that you just gotta deal with to earn that paycheck.
I love the name of the cereal. "Nutty Nuts" 🤣❤ 17:10 The score is really good, esp the 2nd peeing when elderly lady peeks in on you. Tense music/sounds.
Something similar happenned in my country. A tanker truck exploded because of the heat near a camping, burning everyone and boiling alive those who were on the beach.
This was okay. When you got off work and went home eating cereal in the dark, it gave me FNAF Sister Location vibes (FNAF SL had you eating popcorn while watching TV in the dark), and I wish they did something with that. This game has potential.
Yeah, I'm thinking it is definitely giving some homage to FNAF. I could just hear that first text "Hello, hello, hello" in Scott's voice. Not to mention the check at the end and the Sister Location nods others have mentioned. I'd be interested in seeing what other stories this developer can tell, within their own universe, though!
There wasn't enough going on to make it interesting. I liked the old lady moments, especially with her popping up over the toilet, but barely anything else happened.
This had a lot of cool stuff going for it, but it felt like those cool ideas never got utilized. Like having more customers coming to the gas station - some mundane and some truly peculiar but harmless, needing to deal with the generator more meaningfully, and still performing regular tasks as a worker. The segments at home felt like they were building up to something, especially when the opening of the game mentions the player feeling watched, but didn't really go anywhere.
A meh game for me. Without our dear Chris it wouldn't to much to watch or even play. He didn't even had to do multiple things to make this, burger, what a shame!
Hey Chris, do you know why nobody's been giving LITTLE NIGHTMARES 2 any attention?? With everyone doing a series on the first, I was looking forward to seeing my favorite gamers do the sequel for a year! 🥺
So, firstly the design of the environment is good!! Still too dark tho, like unrealistically dark. If this were taking place in the 80s or 90s the lights may have been less effective, but this is seemingly modern. Secondly, yeah, lot of bugs and glitches. I also noticed that the first customer is wearing the same jacket as the granny. could be just asset reuse, or its the same guy. loved doofas. hes a bro. was hoping more sim factors to this game. like a minigame for serving food or cleaning. I'd say the major challenge most of these indie horror games face is the fact that the bar has been set so high by other developers. For example, this one is undoubtedly inspired by (A) Puppet Combo's Night Shift and (B) Fears to Fathom. Those games sure are about as good as it gets with home invasion horror, and it can be really difficult to bring new things to the table. Spooky gas station, weird customers, a killer showing up sooner or later - it has all been done before. Naturally, that doesn't mean you cannot/shouldn't give it a try. Regardless, with this one we have, of the above mentioned examples, the former's setting/location and the latter's dialogue portions. Thus, it feels more like a lost Fears to Fathom episode, which I do not mind at all. However, as soon as the game cut to "shift completed" for the first time and made the player return home, the atmosphere took a hit. Such sudden transitions can easily kill whatever mood you had going for yourself. Sure, it quickly goes back to the gas station, but Night Shift for example, despite its short length, really immerses you because you are at the station from start to finish. Essentially, you become a part of the location, and the atmosphere begins to seep into your mind. Instead, random conversations attempt to keep the tension going. I'd say it does work, although the "Matrix Granny" sure felt random. Still somewhat threatening but also hilarious in a way. In my opinion, not enough happens in between the "at home" sections to actually justify going home. Just a bit of a pacing issue, nothing more really. But although I am usually slow-paced, I do have to agree with CJU on the fact that the game drags a little in places, especially with those walls of text. Probably another flaw caused by the pacing. Yeah, ultimately, this one is alright but nothing too special - which is a shame, for the potential is as so often there. I enjoyed the Matrix Granny more and more as things went along, but then it all culminates in yet another run-of-the-mill finale where the killer character preys on and eventually fails at capturing you, much like in Fears to Fathom. The dialogue options felt a little pointless - why have both "leave now" and "please, leave now", rather than just one of the two? Who knows, who knows. Well, as CJU put it, another "alright" game, but nothing one might remember. Again, certainly inspired by the greats, but it brought nothing new to the table.
I actually think one of the big inspirations is probably FNAF, especially sister location. That's why its got the end of night comment, and even the paycheck at the end. Except there the segments where you're briefly at home, having popcorn (and later the reward you 'picked') are build ups of potential endings where things go wrong. Here you have the build up, but not the pay off.

yeah it felt pretty shameless with that, but at least in SL there was an actual show you could watch and something happens in one of the endings!
The first text message started with "Hello.. Hello, Hello!" pretty much straight up Phone Guy's opening line.
Thanks for the great content as usual CJU!

They hyped up the random ghost stories and things yet all we really get is a person in a granny mask? They had so much missed possibilities.
