I remember seeing Pinza as a young lad at Moat Hills crossing, Bentley, in about 1981, where she is heading on this video, perhaps less than a mile from the station. Was always a great place to watch the trains, with Dock Hill crossing being nearby as well. Great footage, thank you.
80 to 82 catching the bus to Doncaster to see Deltics as a 14 year old , from the first time i saw one i was hooked and couldn't get enough of that magnificent sound , this video brings back so many memories , if i close my eyes i am back there on the platforms so ingrained in my memory are those saturdays from long ago ,
Thank you for posting this video.
Simply the best. How could I not like this video. Thanks for going to all the effort of converting it to digital and posting here.
Pinza was my baby too. If I could turn back time I would have got 3 jobs and worked overtime to buy her.
Doncaster Station was the first place I stood alongside a Deltic as a young lad - (I remember the platform reverberating as it 'strained on the leash to be set free' unlike the slow tickover of all others') and thinking this was a locomotive like no other - especially the way it exuded such sheer power, not only from the magnificent sound effects of the Napiers, but also in it's perfectly balanced frontal design - nothing could suggest friendly, reassuring power better. Later as a student at Newcastle I'd always try to catch the Deltic hauled Aberdonian when heading home. Nothing since has come close!
The good ole days! Not like that now :( beautiful too see and thank you for sharing, the Deltics were beautiful and fantastic, a legend of the ECML
Thanks for posting these videos 👍
What I love about these old clips is how fast the BR drivers accelerated the Deltics, you don't see that with the preserved ones now. I understand why but these old ones are outstanding.
When this was filmed I was in Butlins Skegness until early September. I was 9 and I used to see these past my house every day. Great sound.
I had 10 from Berwick to Edinburgh a day or so previously on the 0550 KX-AB and 7 from Edinburgh to Newcastle the day before, I have photos but nice to see footage of the same locomotives only days apart.....was on a freedom of Scotland ticket and remember having 9 back from Newcastle via Carlisle and Carstairs to one of the west end bay platforms at Edinburgh..... fantastic times and great memories..... enjoyed your footage immensely, top job 👍👍👍😎
Many thanks, it does seen along time ago now, looking back i'd wish filmed more than i did
@@weehurrie I wish I’d photographed more than I did… I was young when I first started taking pictures in 1977 but film and processing weren’t cheap for a 12 year old, lol…… but I have some gems from those early years and regularly browse through them…. Trying to get my negatives into digital format and upload them so others can enjoy British Railways of the 70s and 80s… all the deltics are featured among others….. thanks for the reply 👍👍👍😎
Without doubt the finest locomotive ever built. 55 010 The Kings Own Scottish Borderer. My only ever trip by Deltic!
Omg. Pinza. Just pasted this to my dad. He loved pinza.
Me too. In 1979 I went to Grimsby Town station to try getting a Deltic and Pinza roared round the corner in lovely clean condition. Had her to Cleethorpes then back to Newark.
Yay, Pinza! My first. So quiet on the Deltic front right now.
Nice stuff, brings back some good memories.
Remnants of a Deltic in the back of the works there. I found the cab and parts of St. Paddy and I think Nimbus round the back too after exploring on an open day. They were the two I never got hauled by.
Pleased you enjoyed the video, does seem along time ago now.
Yes, frightening how quick time goes by and how drastically different this country is.
Beautiful film.
Interesting 47526 with no data panel or depot sticker. They must have been out of stock at Crewe when it was overhauled
Gorgeous! 👍🏻
What would I give to be that guy at 1.33 with his head out of the front window? Lovely footage.
Classic
