Very nice job, well done! I do have some observations to share for what it’s worth… 13:57 That is probably the most expensive way of backfilling a culvert i have ever seen in my life due to the use of high quality road base for the entire fill material All of the jobs I’ve done we used unclassified fill material that was compactible for all but the last foot or so. Where I live in California Road base cost about $27 a ton and unclassified fill about 8 dollars a ton so you can save a Lot of money by just capping the job with road base The revetment on the outside is a good idea for sure. It will help your fill stay in place. Sure looks like the engineer specified far more corrugated. Metal pipe than the job needed could’ve saved a ton of money there, too
Yup I don’t disagree with you! We were following the specifications designed by the engineer. That’s the way it was desired to be completed, just happened to be a very deep ditch as well
@@aaronburford5701 thank you! That means a lot appreciate it! Hard to get the content out on RUclips, I try to get these longer videos out as much as possible. Hey wanted to let you know I stumbled across you channel when searching culvert installation. Great work! I have have recently started to video my novice use of my kubota excavator. Thanks for posting your video
Looks nice! I like how you flipped the dirt out of the bucket. I’ll have to try that. Does this type of work require you to have any kind of license or anything?
Thanks! Appreciate that. Yeah flicking the dirt or other material like that is a technique that can be helpful to spread material out or sometimes if you can’t raise the bucket to Dump for various reasons. And yes for this job we needed to have a permit for the culvert and also one to have a lane closed on the road when trucks were dumping because it was a very busy road
Hey Andrew, what's your thoughts on the SVL 75 Skiddy ? I'm in process of buying the new 75-3 series and wondered if you have any thoughts on the upgrades Kubota did to your model on the 75-3 - Any feedback gratefully appreciated my friend :)
Hey Daniel! I am a huge fan of the Kubota machines in general like the mini excavators and skid steers. However to be totally honest I have not tried out a 75-3 yet. They look nice, I’ve heard the cab is better and supposedly a better venting system from the 75-2 which is one of the biggest cons that machine has. I would love to tell you more about it but I would have to run it for a while before I can give an honest assessment. Sorry I know not to helpful but in general kubota has been great equipment to own and operate 🍻
Haha not ignorant man, I thought the same thing! This was designed by an engineer and the town. I had to follow their requirements for culvert length. Wasn’t up to me lol.
@@gabrielpearson Yeah Exactly! If it’s an approved design and what the customer wants, as long as it doesn’t negatively affect us or anything else negatively, I have no problem doing it 👍🏻
Great question! The main reason was to avoid also scooping up the gravel I just spread on the driveway. That way I could grab the bigger stones and the gravel would fall through the bucket openings
Metal culvert are the stupidest thing I've ever seen when they fail and collapse nobody dig them up and fixes them they just put more dirt on it and then everything is backed up and flooded they should be outlawed
Very nice job, well done!

Really nice work! Most guys don't bother with the 1x3 or rip rap. Great job not cutting corners and ensuring this stays nice. Really great work Andrew
Thanks Bryan! Better do the job once, the right way!! 🍻
@@dirty.diggers Oh heck yeah. It's shocking how much of the industry doesn't get that...
Very nice and perfection job you did there. But I was surprised that DOT would approve that small of culvert to be in that large of a ditch.
Yeah it was very long as well like several meters longer then the driveway width. But it was all designed I just followed the specs.
Plenty wide enough machine is 72 inches wide. Looks like 4 to 5 times that width
I put quite a few culverts in here in Kansas. We always packed dirt in and capped it off with rock good job😊
Very nice
Thank you. A wonderful video.

Thanks 👍
Interesting technique the way you toss the dirt forward and quickly back up. What is the purpose?
Just how I add a little more where I notice I need to. Also a way to shift a bit more material to one side if I need more there etc
Looking good.
Thanks Scruffy!! Hope all is well with you 😄

Forgive my ignorance, but what’s the deal on all the extra culvert on either side?
Haha not ignorant man, I thought the same thing! This was designed by an engineer and the town. I had to follow their requirements for culvert length. Wasn’t up to me lol.
@@dirty.diggers not meant as a criticism, just to be clear. I figured there was a good reason, and I’m sure the engineer had one.

Did you have to get permits for that culvert job??
Yeah the land owner got a permit for the entrance and I needed on for a temporary road occupancy
Curious to understand why u chose to swap buckets for the rip wrap? Was it visibility?
Great question! The main reason was to avoid also scooping up the gravel I just spread on the driveway. That way I could grab the bigger stones and the gravel would fall through the bucket openings
Easier to pickup RIP rap with tines no cutting edge. Also if he goes down to far it wont mix 2 materials together
Why would you use those metal culverts the only going to last about 10 to 15 years
I used whatever the engineer specs required including diameter, length and type of culvert. Wasn’t up to me
