    Nice one Paul!!
    A question about your canoe. When I got my Broadland 15 I was initially pretty shocked at how much it yawed away on the first few strokes - using a J stroke. I found that I need to do a fairly exaggerated C Stroke to compensate until well underway and than it settles. I have only used it solo and with only my body load. I'm used to it now and I am basically very happy with it. Your thoughts?
    Pete from Australia.

    • @WhenNaturePauls
      @WhenNaturePauls  2 года назад

      Hello Pete, thanks for watching 👍
      To be honest I hadn't noticed it yawning away particularly more than any other prospector canoe (I've only paddled 5). But I do pretty much always start with a C stroke (normal I think). This is probably teaching you to suck eggs, but it depends what you are used to paddling. The prospector shapes do have more rocker than a flat water boat so typically won't track as well.
      Most of my videos I'm sat on the stern seat, but it works for me in regards to my dog, equipment and the position of my sail rig. But obviously if I sat on the bow seat travelling ''backwards'' I'd be positioned more central and eliminate the yaw a bit, Im guessing that's what you do.
      Kind regards, Paul.

    • @petermcmahon8074
      @petermcmahon8074 2 года назад +1

      Thanks Paul - I do position as if travelling backwards to get myself more to the centre. I have had larger canoes in the past and even though the Silverbirch is not light by modern comparisons, my older boats were much heavier. Anyway I've pretty much adjusted and it is such a strong (and beautiful) craft. More importantly while OZ is a great country I am very envious of the places you have travelled in Scotland; stunning. Love the fact that you are so appreciative of the opportunity you have to be there. Keep it up mate. Pete

      @WhenNaturePauls  2 года назад

      @@petermcmahon8074 I figured you probably knew what you was doing 👍
      Yes I love it up here and I'm very appreciative 😁
      I don't know how it's been in Oz, but with covid travelling restrictions, it's been a lot busier this year so a little harder to escape from everyone. But, still beautiful none the less.
      Take care, Paul

    Absolutely spectacular!! Thank you so much!! Quick question. Do you use an asymmetrical tarp or diamond tarp for your hammock? Thanks again and cheers from america!

    • @WhenNaturePauls
      @WhenNaturePauls  2 года назад

      Thank you nqu.
      My tarp is the DD superlight its 3m x 2.9m. I usually only feed my ridgeline through the very centre tab only and attach the outer tabs to the ridge line via an elastic cord (permanantly on the tarp) to a prusik knot always left on the ridge line. (hope that makes sense) this way I can spin it into a square or diamond config.
      I dont know why DD decided to make their super light tarp 3m x 2.9m, perhaps weight saving. To be honest, I'd of preferred it if it were 3x3m, but its not a big deal.
      Hope that helps, Paul

    • @notquiteultralight1701
      @notquiteultralight1701 2 года назад +1

      @@WhenNaturePauls Thanks Paul. That makes total sense. Do you find the asym tarp of that size provides enough rain coverage even on those big windy lochs? Does it keep your hammock and sleep area dry? This is a great watch as we make our way through another New England winter. Take care Paul. NQU

    • @WhenNaturePauls
      @WhenNaturePauls  2 года назад

      @@notquiteultralight1701 it's big enough, you can always bring the sides in and drip loops are essential for the hammock, but it wouldn't be my first choice in the wind. If I though it was going to be really windy and exposed I would of opted for a tent.
