And it’s 200 on vinyl I could cry right now seriously
and I thought I knew everything about Bacharach. I had no idea about the album or this collaboration. He just kept writing and writing.
@@cyndimoring9389 It wasn't a popular collaboration for many Bacharach fans, they felt Costello didn't have the right pedigree. But his voice has enormous character.
In today’s commercial music environment I don’t think people realize just how incredible this is from both a songwriting standpoint but an arranging and performance standpoint. I mean, this collaboration is just amazing.
@@nfornethat’s illuminating… I had no idea burt fans felt that way. When I first heard this album I thought this has got to be one of the great heartbreak albums of all time, because I can’t fathom the quality of an album that would beat this. I thought costello’s raw intensity was the perfect foil for burt’s sensibilities

I get nervous every time a celebrity interview pops up here. I immediately check to see if they are still alive. Unfortunately once again they have passed away. RIP Burt, thanks for all the great music.
With today's news I learned that a few weeks ago the Elvis Costello web site announced a deluxe compilation The Songs of Bacharach & Costello, with several songs and performances in addition to the fantastic Painted from Memory album. They wrote additional songs for a proposed Painted from Memory musical (with book by comedy TV legend Chuck Lorre!). I already have the Sessions at West 54th DVD performance of, and Bill Frisell's The Sweetest Punch reimagining of, Painted from Memory. It's a brillant adult emotional set of songs.
RIP Burt Bacharach, great songwriter, composer, arranger, performer over decades! I Say a Little Prayer.
The album they did together, Painted by Memory, is fantastic.
They worked on a musical based on it, the recent deluxe compilation has more songs. Bring tissues!

My music hero, BURT BACHARACH. Amazing composer, arranger, pianist, conductor, accompanist and producer. Burt had this all. The way he composed was unique. Timesignatures and intervals were always his trademark. There will never be another composer as BURT was. A deep bow and respect for this great, great man! Thank you so much Burt for all the great songs! R.I.P. my music hero! 😢😢
Cannot tell you how the music of Burt Bacharach, Hal David and Dionne Warwick helped me through so many emotional crisis. RIP Mr. Bacharach. You and Mr. David can compose music for all of heaven. 😢
Look at Elvis' face there at the end of God Give Me Strength...he's in the zone...that's the real stuff right there.
Individually and together such brilliant songwriters. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to catch (one of the handful of shows from) this very short "Painted from Memory" tour (at the stunning Chicago Theatre) resplendent with a 30 piece orchestra. It was one of the most incredible live performances I've ever witnessed.
RIP Burt Bacharach... your vast music catalog and stunning compositions will live on for generations to come🙏🏻

That was wonderful. YT suggested the Sonny and Cher reunion after I watched this. I’d love some staff memories on that huge cultural event, maybe Cher can record some thoughts by herself and flog her current main charity. Cher is a uniquely American character. Not only did she think Mount Rushmore was a natural rock formation until she was 18, but she was willing to admit it in a Playboy interview. Who does that? And she’s started charities for the troops and for animals. She used to call C-SPAN’s morning program during the Iraq war to collect money for helmets for the troops that needed them. Thanks.

For "God Give Me Strength" have a look at Elvis as the song ends and the crowd starts applauding, he really seems as though he was transported to another place during the song and gradually "came back to earth" during the audience response.

I can't imagine singing these VERY challenging songs on live TV. The bridge of the second song made me tear up. Great stuff.
Costello poured his heart and soul into the rendition it took him a few moments to zone out after finishing the song. A great collaboration between a composer of iconic ballads and its interpreter.

The original version of “God Give Me Strength” from the movie “Grace of My Heart” sung by Kristin Vigard is THE one .. she owns that song no matter who wrote it
