You should try eating a 24 hour ration over the whole day and find out if it actually keeps you full and is enough to keep you from going hungry , it would be interesting to find out if it's enough !
Do you know what I like about you? You're a healthy eater, but you're not a snob. You don't act like it's beneath you to enjoy the simple pleasures of something like kool aid and admit it tastes good. Also, I live for the last few seconds of every video. You're so silly.
Totally agree! I like how she laughed when saying the texture of the turnover was similar to foods with a lot of preservatives, because it showed that she is food conscious but she doesn't react like "Oh this is so gross, I can feel the preservatives! I can't even eat it!" She's more relatable and respectful than a lot of people who do food-tasting videos.
gorilla glue i also love that she never disrespects another cultures food. even if she doesnt like it. she doesnt go "oh god thats the worst thing ive ever tasted" shes so respectful about it! its wonderful
You are the best youtuber who has the best hate free comment section. This ration pack looked digusting tbh, you're brave to go through with it though. Kudos!
Just to more fully explain this ration, it is intended for troops in the very first day or two of combat - when you spend most of your time getting shot at. So the foods are very much "grab and gobble" rather than dine (if dining EVER happens in the Army, lol!). It's heavy on energy-packed stuff and caffeine, not so much on nutrition. That can come later, when there's a lull in the fighting.
That gum is about a cup of coffee, but it hits you in ~15 minutes because it crosses the mucus membrane of your mouth, and is actually stronger than coffee because it is not first processed by the liver. Essentially, caffeinated gum was developed for military for the purpose of rapidly getting the caffeine at a higher dose with a different serum level curve.
JDDBeyondTheSky do you work at military or something like that? pretty interesting you know the fact :o i know some medicine "kicks" in faster by putting em under the tongue, but i didnt know caffeine works like that too
combination of National Geographic and having spoken with an officer coming through where I worked at the time in uniform. I was curious if our military had adopted it and asked a bit, surprisingly he was able to share more info than I would have thought "Its currently being looked into, but hasn't been put into use yet" As for the pharmacological aspects, biology background, formal psych education, well studied in psychopharmacology (which is really just pharmacology focused on neuro stuff). I like knowing everything about every substance that goes into my body, and as a transhumanist, that knowledge allows me to augment myself in ways I desire (knowing when to take what psych meds to maximize their usefulness, counting things like caffeine here too). The transhumanism thing extends beyond the use of altering state of mind for the situation, but also extends to why I have glasses despite having "normal vision" (it gets rid of the astigmatism and increases my distance vision at the cost of making my near vision slightly worse, the near vision is still good enough that I can wear them all the time if I want, its a slight tweak that makes life... more to my liking). I'm caught, when the opportunity is available, I want to replace my vision with cybernetics that allows everything I want from my vision, but I would not want to give up my natural eye colour for that. I also look forward to RFID chipping myself to make my life easier, and to be able to afford a neural headset to play with. There's a ton of other things I'd like to do, but on the realist side of transhumanism, its use of psychoactives (legally), future chipping myself to make my own devices and locks more secure as well as being able to control a lot more with the wave of my hand, and one of the already existing higher quality neural headsets because I can use it for so many different things that it pains me to think about what I could do with one (biofeedback being one of the biggest things).
JDDBeyondTheSky didnt expect to have a pretty long answer but that sounds pretty cool, once i want to be pharmacist (im not quite sure if they learn something like this) because i love to know how such little thing affect your body but then... well im computer engineer now so lol
They get much deeper into the chemistry than I care for, I just need to be able to read the numbers, graphs, what they mean, etc. The chemistry is cool and all, but its the higher level applications of it I find interesting, like how adding small amounts of lithium to city water would probably improve sociability and reduce suicidality a small bit. The lithium thing, the number needed to treat may be quite high, but the number receiving it would be massive, and the number needed to harm is pretty damn high if you are using the levels that would make sense for such an application.
Your mentioning that the turkey jerky reminded you of dog treats made me think of this. When NASA was in the process of developing food for multi-day spaceflights, they contacted a dog food manufacturer who suggested a sort of human kibble. This did not go over well. Other ideas included whole-nutrition shakes that the test subjects hated so much they poured them into the floorboards of the simulated rockets, and pureed foods in tubes. One of the first concepts were small cubed sandwiches, but the crumbs from the bread would break off and float into the instrument panel or into someone's eye, so they coated the sandwich in edible wax which had the unpleasant side effect of coating the mouth (astronauts now only use tortillas). I highly suggest checking out the book Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach. One of my all-time favorite authors, and Emmy I think you would really enjoy her writing. She is really hilarious and the work that goes into her books is astounding. Thanks!
I remember reading somewhere that gus grissom got in trouble for smuggling a sandwich on board a space flight when one of their objectives were to test the food they had on board.
I absolutely love how down to earth Emmy is. The simple fact that she is willing to put errors out there is phenomenal. That boing yoing sound had me about to die though🤣. Keep up the wonderful work Emmy!
Hi Em, my little island is currently experiencing a storm! ...... but am sitting here and watching your always-awesome videos that makes me feel warm inside, even though am scared.... pray for us... 🇹🇹
Hey Emmy. This is on my to do list real soon. For the fsr the name is very literal. The rations are mean to be used for a few days during the initial "first strike". Oh and I actually enjoyed the turkey nuggets/dog treats haha. That's why it's cool to see multiple people try the same things.
FSR's are not very good in my opinion. Don't get me wrong - they are better than nothing and have the calories your need. Remember that these are all part of the MRE program - they are not Meals Ready to Eat...... but more like Meals, Rejected by Enemy or even Meals Ready to Exit.
Emmy you are so delightful. I've been a fan of your channels for over 2 years now and you never fail to impress me with your intellect and thoughtfulness. You always put a smile on my face :)
I love these videos. It's so intresting seeing all the different Military meals from different countries, as well as our different USA rations. Love you Emmy, you have such a sweet demeanor, and you are so upbeat. It makes me happy to watch all your videos. Cheers!
There are some companies that actually make dog food and treats that are made to be safe for human consumption. You should try some of those in a video. I don't remember her name, but the owner of one of those companies received a lot of publicity when she ate only her pet food products for, I think, a month or something. Maybe one these companies would even sponsor a video.
I absolutely love Emmy. Without really knowing someone she would have to be one person that couldnt have a bad bone in her body. She comes over so real and lovable. She is just a delight to watch and these vids seem so far from what I would have thought she would want to produce but she is just great at it. Well done girl and I hope you go far.
Emmy a little tip for the drink pouches, after sealing, and always double check first, food the top over once or twice before shaking them. Always love watching your videos, so much fun!
Haha! So get this, Tati and Jeffree Star did a collaboration and people went cuh-razy with so much backlash. Then Tati had a mild breakdown and is constantly deleting any negative comments and leaving messages. Take a trip over and watch it and check out the comments.
Hey Emmy, amazing video as usual, and congratulations on almost one million subscribers that's incredible and you deserve every last one of your subs and sooo many more!!!!!!! Keep up the amazing videos and I'll keep watching!!!
I watched her since her channel has 100K subs or less it makes me happy to see her channel grow and become more popular, I'll keep rooting for you, your family and your channel
EMMY!! love it im early and a huge fan of the MRE community...your channel rocks and your so open minded, well spoken and soo deserve the GOLD play button...soon & cheers
Your voice is so calming that by 15 mins in I was in a slight state of meditation....so I got a massive fright when you inserted that "booooiiIIIIG" noise
This is known as field stripping anything not necessary goes! Anyone that hasn’t had to carry a combat load thinks that we draw rations and just throw it in the pack. We strip anything not needed out.Rations and ammunition and any other over packaging goes. Every ounce counts! Stilllove you Emmy!
I used to take these with me on hikes or to the beach when I was younger, but had long forgotten their splendors. Now, thanks to you Emmy, I'm getting new ones to try all the time! Thank you and much love from Puget Sound!!
These are given to Soldiers when they move out on "operations". We don't expect support from rear units. Previously we would break down multiple MREs focusing on food you could eat on the go (we dont expect we'll get time to sit and eat). We would also supplement with stuff we bought. Flavor isn't that important.
Like how you are so positive. The energy bars/applesauce/pudding remind me when no doze and vivarin caffeine tabs were very popular. Those are just caffeine tabs people mainly used on long trips. When my brother was young he tried milk bones and told me the different colors green/veggie red/meat etc all taste the same more marketed to people but same taste.
The “mystery meat“ always reminds me of a Christmas dinner my mom made for the whole family a long time ago. This one course where everybody got a plate with what looked like (and everybody thought it was) chocolate pudding, but it turned out to be “mystery meat“. And yes, It ended bad.
I keep that military energy gum on me everyday in case I need a little caffeine boost. Don’t taste great, but gets the job done. That BBQ tortilla would taste better with some salt, and heated up
I also got the BBQ pork wrap in an MRE with my boyfriend and I didn’t like it at all because it was so sweet!!! He didn’t taste the sweetness at all but to me it was an unwelcome overpowering sweetness. I’m so glad you also taste it too and I know I’m not crazy!
You should fold the top of the drink pouches over and hold them at the top and bottom, sort of like a cocktail shaker, when you shake them to avoid spilling.
One thing I've noticed about the "combos" when I ate them by there self. They left a greasy film in the roof of my mouth. Usually I eat the worn other stuff so I didn't notice before. Oh and the zip lock drink bags. After you zip it closed fold it over a few times before shaking. P.S That's my favorite military gum. It's the reason I was able to make the drive home from Doswell from the mre meetup.
I ate these at high altitudes, with heavy combat load. We were moving vertically with grueling pace, and these meals did the job. I even shared one with 2 other guys, and it got us by one mission. 50-50 for what tastes okay, as far as total contents are concerned. Also, the gum is a laxative. These meals tend to plug you up. Which, in the field can be good, and bad. Depending on how much you eat.
The problem with heating the cheese product in a heater is that it is actually an emulsion, and heat tends to break an emulsion, and unless you have a blender handy to reconstitute it, no amount of kneading is going to get it whipped back into shape. In my experience, the only heat you would need would be to stick it under your armpit for about five minutes... spreads much easier without breaking the emulsion. (Assuming that it didn't get to you having already been exposed to extreme temperatures somewhere along the way...)
"Now that I've had a second bite, they remind me of what dog treats might taste like." That's a serious culinary _burn!_ And then doubles-down on the burn with, "This kind of shellac finish, this rubbery ball bounciness, and just the size of it all. reminds you of something Fido would probably adore."
1st off I want to say thank you very much you gave me the idea of ordering and mores off of Amazon which I did I have been storing them in my car which it's a good thing I did because on a road trip we recently took we became stranded in the middle of though Oregon forest About 5 miles from civilization I am in a wheelchair it was not an ideal situation This kept us fed and my child sane well help arrived
That moment when you spilled your drink when you milkshake had me laughing out loud!! Im really clumsy and stuff like that happens quite often with me, sorry that keeps happening to you emmy (I've seen it happen in another vid too) I share your pain!
My nephew says they would put the cheese packet in their pocket or somewhere against their skin or warm spot on the body an hour or so before eating, then knead it and its MUCH better :)
I love your reactions and expressions along with the ending of your videos. You remind of someone so similar to you. Thank you for all your videos and continue doing what your doing, your the best.
Got mine two days ago, didn't get the bread sticks, it came with a bagel instead, which tasted exactly like MRE white bread, no bagel flavor at all and an orange beverage base powder. I did enjoy the shake, I'm ok with Strawberry Banana. Didin't come with caffeinated gum either or a spoon, I'm thinking it was a counterfeit.
Deciphering Emmy's 'Hmmm'
1. Hm! ( high pitched) = deliciousss!
2. Hmmmmm emm = dang that's good!
3. Emmm emm = omg that's bad.Nope!
You should try eating a 24 hour ration over the whole day and find out if it actually keeps you full and is enough to keep you from going hungry , it would be interesting to find out if it's enough !
Steeph Alice please do this emmy!
Steeph Alice that's a good idea! 😉
Steeph Alice I second this!!
Great idea

Dojan5 I know, right? She's kind of a badass.

Rocky Raab makes perfect sense. Thank you for clarifying! ☺️
Thank you. Knowing more really helps understand the design of these meals.
I love that her comment section is hate free it's so nice
Me too. My Lovelies are the best. 😍
emmymadeinjapan can't argue with facts 😺
Coco Bobo I'm never nervous going into the comments section here. It's always nice. ☺
Fastbreak 383 what’s your problem?
Som3body I love Emmy but with this post on the internet it almost seems like he’s asking for it lol

Guys Emmy is getting so close to a million! So deserving and lovely

Soul Rebel she was definitely eating soy
I'm so glad your all most at a million subbies !!
You should fold the top of the drink pouches over and hold them at the top and bottom, sort of like a cocktail shaker, when you shake them to avoid spilling.
I agree with everyone here that you’re incredibly brave to taste these MREs.
+oldsmokey That gum is potent.
"Now that I've had a second bite, they remind me of what dog treats might taste like." That's a serious culinary _burn!_
And then doubles-down on the burn with, "This kind of shellac finish, this rubbery ball bounciness, and just the size of it all. reminds you of something Fido would probably adore."
I love these videos. They're so interesting lol. Much love from Florida Em!
So descriptive, thank you Emmy!
Did anyone else say, "Ew!" when that chicken came out of the bag? 😂
RachelCaroline47 i thought it looked good ahaha lmao
Compared to the turkey nuggets bouncing around looking like charcoal briquettes, the chicken wasn't so bad lol
Compare the chicken to the pudding.
RachelCaroline47 I thought it was burned
RachelCaroline47 Me!
Almost to a million. Best wishes to your channels future. I've been enjoying your videos since uncle Steve sent me. ✌️
That was a great one. I have to give you credit Emmy you'll taste anything. I love your videos and look forward to the new post.
My nephew says they would put the cheese packet in their pocket or somewhere against their skin or warm spot on the body an hour or so before eating, then knead it and its MUCH better :)
My brother is in the army and he brings me MREs when he can. I've always loved all the meals, except the tuna.
I love your reactions and expressions along with the ending of your videos. You remind of someone so similar to you. Thank you for all your videos and continue doing what your doing, your the best.
You need more subscribers Emmy! You're amazing! And almost 80-90% of the comments are positive ❤️
Poor Emmy. She should do what Steve1989 does. Fold over the drink pouches twice, then shake 'em up. She'll never have a dairyshake accident again.
Whistling was never me forte.
Another fun MRE video, thanks Emmy!
