Scotty Kilmer hey Scotty I really like your videos. Can I ask what year is the black Celica? 1992???
is that really all? I mean, if you order a car engine, is it ok to assume it's basically ready for it to be bolted in and started? You don't need to adjust the timing or anything?
Scotty Kilmer Engine Hoist***
Scotty kilmer for president. Keep making these no-nonsense videos and i will keep watching them in sunny England. Really like your channel.
Where can I buy #8?
I don't bother locking up my car at night. I just remove the engine before I go to bed.
LOL
Sonny Latchstring hell yea 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol dude why you do dis
Sonny Latchstring you must be an expert by now
I know. This looks easier than rolling up the windows and locking the doors.
Scotty: "today ill show you how to replace your engine"
Me: o cool ive been waiting for this video for a long time
Scotty:" take out your old engine put a new one in" now you know how to replace your engine!"
Me: 😃
*blink* *blink* .... *crickets*
LMAO! Yep, pretty much. Heck, I went to the kitchen for a snack just to enjoy this... when I came back, it was on the third video after this one already, lol!
TortureBot hahaha you had me dying
@@Siknik64 those crickets got ate by 210 frogs dude.
Hahahaha no kidding
How to swap engine: do it
thanks Scotty lol
Lol yeah
Step 1: Remove old engine
Step 2: Put new engine in
Step 3: done
tjv323 easiest tutorial ever.
Yes, I can't make politicians stop B.S.ing
And we never will. Crooked bastards.
I think Scotty posted this as a semi joke video haha
Looks like changing the engine is easier then changing the oil, new motor every 10,000 miles
ohh man you made me laugh so much
Lol best comment ever
New fave comment ever
make sure to change your engine every 3 or 4 miles
@@austrinivanderfanly745 I don't care what they suggest, I change mine every 3 or 4 and never have engine problems
this is why Scotty is the best mechanic in the world.
he can put a new engine in a car in less than 2 minutes lol
Yol Well, the world record is 40 seconds or so...so he has a way to go.
Although that was done by like 6 guys, so scotty is pretty impressive.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@shabutir1820 6 Scotties would be...12 seconds?
"Today is your lucky day". If you need a new engine it is most definitely not your lucky day.
+Quentin Smith yes, but if you do as I do with a used Japanese engine it will save you many thousands.
+Scotty Kilmer b..but American diesel power though!
+Scotty Kilmer were u located ?
+Quentin Smith he he he
haha, good point. but really that just depends on your point of view! i like it when things break - i get to take them apart!
This is so great, started this job 9 years ago when the video came out and just finished. Totally worth the thousand bucks I saved, only cost me the 9 years and a marriage
No fr I made the mistake of doing an engine swap with almost no experience last august. It’s February now and I’m finally finishing LMAO
Just don’t swap your wife for another!
You can thank Scotty, because your wife would have been 9 years older. The wall remains undefeated.
wow replaced engine in 2min video, I spent 1 hour just to get one rusted bolt off
Seventh Universe 😆😭
Seriously!
Fire Hawk You don't know the struggle, those manifold and starter bolts are devils.
Holiofuck i just saw you on ifunny earlier today
😂
I like your show and all scotty but this was like the haynes manual of engine replacements in video form.
1. Open hood
2. Replace engine
3. Close hood
it's quite a bit more than that, and anyway, it's just a basic video showing that guys can actually do it themselves with some rather inexpensive tools if they really want to
It's not the most complicated procedure. Literally disconnect/unbolt anything that connects to the engine/obstructs it, pull it out, replace the engine and reconnect everything. It's better to look up the specific procedure for a certain part that you're having trouble removing, like how to remove an exhaust manifold or a throttle body.
+jm8881 For Haynes it'd be more like, 1. Open hood 2. Remove engine, then "installation is the reverse of removal."
Brilliant!
Hey Scotty . I did the same thing to my 72' - Chevrolet pick-up
Took out motor and transmission by myself. No help from anyone and put everything back in .
Replacing an engine in 2 min
It's about how much time it takes when you're used to it, when cars get stolen, the junkyard already got them stripped in like 3 hours
Yes, but they would work as a team, not one person lifting out an engine not much larger than the one on my lawn mower.
they use the Victor wrench!
absolutely useless video. He only made it for the views.
Replacing an engine in two minutes
Yes he is the most interesting man in the world
No but really can you imagine changing engine in just two minutes
Like woah. Mind boggling
It’s easier to try and figure out the time space continuum
Just swapped the motor in my son's 94 S-10. It took me 3 minutes and eleven seconds. A minute longer than Scotty. Granted, I did take a break to drink a beer. ;)
Chris Norton I forgot to laugh.
😂
Step up your game.
Basically this whole video.. How to change an engine:
Step one: remove old engine
Step 2: put in new engine
Done
reminds me of Haynes manuals: 1. disconnect negative terminal from battery
2. remove electrical connections
3. disconnect cooling system
4. disconnect fuel system
5. remove engine...
installation is reverse of removal...
Ah yes just a couple bolts and its out...NOT! lol
+asdf taking a engine out isnt really complicated but I had to laugh at a less than 2 minute advice video on taking an engine out
And no mention, of course, of disconnecting the engine from the transmission. Or engine mounts. Or power steering. Or A/C. Or radiator hoses and fans. Or alternators. Or starters. Or wiring. Or vacuum lines.
Yeah, just take the intake and exhaust manifolds off and boom. None of that other stuff could possibly be important.
+O Ocalhoun egg zaktly
+O Ocalhoun you make it sound so hard...
O Ocalhoun lol nah who needs all that anyways right😂😂
god bless harbor freight tools
Chris Craft your profile picture is creepy
zhbvenkhoReload have you seen yours?
it's a harbor freight picture
Horrible freight
Red Pilled china freight
If you need to change the engine in your vehicle then todays your lucky day! lol 😂😅
Sikunt Comedy 😄
Wow, how to change an engine in 2:11, I'll get right on it!
haha....I was thinking the same thing!
On point sir. Scotty need to put more details in his videos
The Haynes manual way.
Disconnect negative battery terminal
Remove mounts
Lift motor from vehicle
Because with Haynes everything else is already disconnected
lmao
lmfao
"If you need a heart transplant, today is your lucky day!" Said no one. Ever.
Meh... Should take around 2 minutes
1. remove heart
2. replace heart
3. reinstall connections
4 close chest lol😂
Only Scotty can remove an engine in a two minute video 😂
i took the exhaust manifold and intake manifold off and connected my hoist to the engine, but it won't lift out i did exactly what you said scotty
Crank harder!
this is the funniest comment on this video😂
Did you disconnect the hub from the fuel tank or did you have AAA do it for you? Lmao
Did you try turning off the headlight?
Check the tire pressure.
Wow, how in depth and informative! I'm gonna go change my engine right now! Thanks! :/
this was probably his most anticlimactic video lol
this is America we all have attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He must do it this way
Well once you realize all cars have the same things just different sizes and shapes, it gets real easy when you get down to it. The more you do it, the more you learn, the more you learn the easier it gets. Heck you can do most jobs in a driveway with a jack and a 40$ tool set from harbor freight
Dog Groomer where do you buy a new engine tho
Dragon King you could get a remanufactured engine at parts stores like Nappa or autozone but the cheapest place to get an engine would be getting a used one from a salvage yard
Scotty broke a sweat in this one! Dig the videos! I always watch 'em before I start a project. Educational and motivational!
They aren't held in by wizard magic, They are usually attached by only a handful of bolts. The rest is hoses and cables. If you have seen a heavy car crash the engine often just breaks off the mounts and comes clear of the car. If you rev it you can see the whole thing flex about, theres obviously more than this but its not outrageously difficult. An engine jack and a socket set maybe a breaker bar you can get one out, also a torque wrench to get one back in. But its not rocket science, its like unbolting anything else its just daunting because it looks so heavy and tight.
It's internal combustion engine science.
2 min engine replacement hey I love this guy
Those don't count he is a pro
*****
of course this is a generic video touching the major points of changing an engine, a full video would be so freaking long and boring no one would watch it but nerds.
Scotty Kilmer hey ! I'm a nerd!
Yeah, except the over 4 million nerds that tune into chrisfix's videos who actually want a decent in depth view of how to fix their cars, unlike you who makes everyone think that REPLACING AN ENGINE can be done in two minutes.
@@acdc6601 stfu scotty is the goat
Not gonna remove motor mounts, transmission, or driveshaft?
Bmw M3 e46 nope you just take off the intake manifold and the exhaust manifold and you crank it.
I think that only applies if you want to make your fwd car into rwd or convert a automatic transmission to manual transmission
Driveshaft is connected to the tranny, not the engine...but motor mounts most definitely.
nope lol
@@Cicada-eg4pw forgot he was doing it to a fwd not a rwd
Scotty YOU ARE HELPING OUT A YOUNG GIRL SOON TO BE EXPERT ON FIXING HER OWN 95 gmcsierra 💅🏻💅🏻 i learned how to do my own oil change, change my power steering fluid, clean my bay, locate my oil leak, and I STILL HAVE TO DO ALOT MORE ON THIS BABY!
-Get a new engine
-take out the old one
-install the new one... simple job
It's not that easy as shown in the video. You have to disconnect wiring, engine foundations, hoses and bunch of other stuff. And reach those tight spots for unbolting is pain in the ass.
in this case, it sat on a jack partially and partially on part of the sub frame
Only Scotty Kilmer can make a video about completely replacing an engine in just over 2 minutes.
him and jesus lol
@fullvibe87 A big video on changing an engine would be WAAY beyond youtube's time and space limits as I shoot with an HD camera. I just made this one to show people it's possible to do engine swaps themselves with little money. Soctty
realize if it's different than the motor in it now you will need sensor changing, wiring changing, and computer changing. But if it's the same, everything fits on right
Hi Scotty ! I´ve followed all your instructions and now my cat is inside the bell housing and I hear a funny sound when I crank the engine, any advice? Tnks
Everyone is upset that this wasn't a 120 minute detailed video on engine replacement for their car but I was just curious on the basic process for engine replacement, thanks Scotty!
About 95% of automotive repair content on YT is to prove to people that it's worth paying for-real mechanics to do this stuff. This one being the best example out there.
Replacing engine is a nasty job. Scotty may have done it thousand times but for average folks it's too much. But thanks for sharing...
yep, either trigger a heart attack or lose a finger trying.
not simple or 'safe' for most.
So to recap.. To take an engine out.
Step 1. take the engine out
To put it back together
Step 1. Put it back in
I laughed harder than I should have at this
I actually did that with a 1974 Pontiac LeManns. Right in the street...rented the engine hoist. Put in a 400 that a friend gave me, and that car ran like a bat outa hell. Thanks, Scotty.
I would definitely recommend watching another video on this. This barely scratches the surface
Replacing an actual engine is like the 10 hours of compulsory reading on course material and this video is the one page of a slide show that the prof spends on talking about said content.
Wow that looks easy, im gonna put an LS3 V8 in my focus now. By the way, if I put the engine in the trunk does it become RWD?
😂😂😆
Love this video 2 minutes to change an engine in your car 👍🏽 great work Scotty!
I had my engine swapped and it took the shop like 3-4 days and heres scotty doing it in 2 minutes 😮
@alistairstuart2009 anything's possible, but diesel swap would be insanely complex.. Same thing with a bigger engine, it would be complex and require a new transmission and tons of other stuff.
"How to perform a heart replacement surgery, step one cut them open and pull the heart out, step 2 put the new heart in and youre done!"
Hey it only takes 2:11 to swap an engine and it starts right up! Thanks, Scotty! I’m gonna swap all my engines today!
I just google it and start checking em out myself, try to get local as engines can be a pain to ship
You make look easier than easy
I bet you can't move the engine even a bit before you remove the engine mount and disconnect the transmission.
depends on the noise of course. remove the fan belts and run it, pray the noise goes away and it's something the belt drives. If not, engine has serious internal damage
Scotty kilmer has the right way to think, i feel like we are brothers. Great job scotty
How hard would this be for some one who has very little experience working on cars?
it's a big job, but really, I've seen teenagers do it on a weekend
+Scotty Kilmer Do you find replacing an engine easier than replacing a clutch?
Tyler Eriksen I guess, it is easy if you know what you are doing.
How about you do it, and tell us how long it takes? That way, you know how long it would take, and, now you swapped an engine. Win win
Just go to a godamn mechanic and save yourself the headache
Ahh, the good old 4A-FE engine.
Thank you so much for the nice step by step instruction. I was able to change the engine in my old Toyota by following your video
Wow, whole engine swap in just 2 minutes! It must be a new WR! Scotty surely knows how to get to the point! Lol!
just take undo one bolt, and now your ready to pull your engine :) lol jk
Remember to grease up you one engine bolt.
Replacing an engine less than three minutes. Ha ha ha ha ha ha
I have been watching many car repair video when showing they make really look simple but believe me a simple nut and bolt misalignment could make a second job turn several days when you have no experience. Anyway this kind of give me a little confidence to try changing engine one day. At least the hardest part is have the tool to lift the engine off and a perfect solution has been provided with this video. Next is to look for similar video on how to change transmission.
"If you need to change the engine in your car, then today's your lucky day!"
Would have been funny if the video just ended right there. Very helpful stuff Scotty, your videos rock.
I love harbor freight
Can’t believe u had to change a Toyota engine.
I love this one.. I do alot of uber and lyft so i do alot of stuff my self but had a mechanic put a new engine in my 05 chevy since i used the crap out of the other one. Im going buy these tools and do this myself once i use the current one
Check engine light comes on after changing the engine.
seriously people think scotty's videos are helpful but most of them are like this, just tips, doesn't actually explain each step like eric. no disrespect intened
etcg rocks
afrojack 777 yeah he does. I like chrisfix and Ratchets And Wrenches also
Scotty is more for people who already know mechanic well, chrisfix likes to go in details, and ratchet and wrenches just go and explain what does every single damn part he touches, so it depends on your time, scotty will have up to 10 minutes, chrisfix up to 20 minutes, ratchet and wrenches up to 4 days
eksine I agree
Uhh It's not that simple... Wtf.. You didn't at least mention to separate the engine from the transmission.
Scotty doesnt make videos for people who only know how to put gas in a car
I totally agree. Scotty doesn't seem to make videos for people with inline sixes or V8s either. There's a certain amount of preparation work involved in doing it right. He briefly mentions the removal of the manifolds. But there's also the need to unhook the wiring and pipes and tie everything out of the way. You also have to remove the fan, the belts and the radiator in case the engine block shifts forward and punctures it during the lift.
It's also a good policy to replace the rubber engine mounts while you're at it, rather than wait until they fail a roadworthy inspection and then you have to come back especially to do it in a year or two.
You make it look so easy Scotty. Makes me want to go out and do my own engine swap.
@PVoyager the feeler gauge should slip under the rocker with a small amount of resistance, not tight, but not completely loose either with no tension slowing it down. Scotty
i did something wrong, it took me more than 2 minutes
Is it really that simple to replace an engine? Theres a place that sells engine from japan for like $300
the actual process takes 8-10 hours, just make sure you have an engine hoist
Good sir, would you please tell me where this place that sells Japanese engines for like $300 is? Thanks!
there is a lot of it. mostly chopped from cars junked in japan. See MightyCar Mods show on buying a car from Japan
Diego A To remove AND replace an engine, it's not that simple, there's actually a lot to it, especially when installing the new engine.
Unless you're Dominic Toretto...he doesn't need an engine hoist....oh and Chuck Norris
Hey Scotty! thanks to the video I replaced my engine in 2 mins!!
wow, what a rip. I paid a little over a hundred bucks for my engine hoist
lol, instead of "rev up your engine's," it's more like, "replace your engine's."
Yeah I'm sure this really fuckin helped no one..
+Jim Ashole your name says it all, plus youcan't spell
+Scotty Kilmer Irony at its finest, Scotty. "your name says it all, plus youcan't spell". No hate, I just think you should check your spelling first before commenting on someone else's lack of grammatical accuracy.
Circuit Break he spelled everything correctly..where's the mistake?
no, back in 93 you could swap a japanese somewhat smaller CC engine with an american model that was a tiny bit bigger with no problems at all.
Thank you Scotty for your help, everything you do you make look so simple!!! Even a big job like this... again Thank You, God Bless
He doesn't look old enough to have been working on cars for 46 years. He looks younger than a lot of 46 year olds.
Allen J Bowers he was a mechanic when he was fetus is what your trying to say
you make it look easy! i pulled the motor out of a 67 Impala in 45 min, it was still warm when i pulled it out!
My mechanic needed a whole day to put my engine in this guy can do it in 2 mins amazing
there should be a diagram on the hood showing all vacuum lines. If not, go to a dealer, by law they have to supply you with a picture of vacuum lines as that is anti pollution equipment.
@dmaruca depends on the mechanic and how much work he had to do. I often finish jobs done that way, and sometimes it's only a few hundred bucks.
hook up a timing light and see if the timing is waay off, or if it jumps around, that would show chain is bad.
Here is 1 for you. An old Kei van basic model, looking at replacing the old engine and transmission and putting in a brand new one with an automatic transmission. what do you think? Pros? Cons? Anything?
thanks for your good advice- and for presenting them with such big smile. I get in good mood from watching you
@99ambition sixties only use small modules to run ignition systems (they called them "black boxes" back then.) Seventies stated using more computers on AC systems and early fuel injection and ignition systems. Scotty
@99ambition generally they come with nothing but the engine block and heads, you reuse everything else. If it's used from a junk yard, it has many more parts on it and is much easier to install, like this one. Scotty
@PeterGriffin4200 160 thousand miles, but it only failed cause the previous owner was a teenager who drove it a year with a leaking water pump. So the head had minor cracks in it, though it ran OK, it used water.
@PUREAAMERICAN it was a 900 dollar used car that the last owner, a kid, drive into the ground and cracked the head from overheating. But it ran 2 years with the cracked head, I just got tired of adding water (it ran fine otherwise.) So I put the used japanese engine in. It had 160 thousand miles on the original. Scotty
Hahaha, you gotta love this guy.. Do it yourself strategy..
to say he makes it look so easy is an understatement..
Hey Scotty what about swapping your engine out for something like an ls motor?
GREAT vids all the time. Sometimes a bit of inspiration also. Old guy new to the disposable gloves while fixing, what's a recommended brand? Thanks
@mds2465 the car's previous owner was 17 and overheated it by not replacing a worn water pump. so the head had a small crack, it ran ok, but would use coolant through the crack.
quality how to from a Emmy award winning mechanic.
go with the same one, swapping requires all kinds of sensor and computer modifications
@Matthew55904 the ABS and trac system work together, so when one light goes on, the other soon follows. BUT, you need a dealer level scan tool to analyze those complex systems. If you don't want to spend that kind of money, ignore it, as it's a fail safe system and would revert to non trac, non abs normal driving. Scotty
@BADtimmay same process, but they don't just slide in, you have to wiggle the hell out of them.
Hi Scotty, great video. I wanted to ask some advice about my son (he’s five) and whether it would be reasonable enough for him to do an engine swap on his own. Thanks, Thomas.
Videos are always excellent! Keep up the good work.
Can you make a video about how to put a 1997 f150 4.6 triton motor in? I keep hearing it’s tricky to do. Or is it the same steps you go through in this video?
Yes, I would replace, not attempt fixing a knocking engine on that model.
