Homelander and the Ending Problem

  • Spoilers for all seasons of The Boys and Game of Thrones
Season 3 of the Boys was fantastic and Homelander remains one of the best villains ever put on television. (He was amazing back in season 1 and I totally slept on him in my first video about the show, and he's only gotten better since then). Still, I can't help but be a little worried that he might start to lose his luster if the show ends up becoming "Homelander vs the world," which is the direction it might be headed.
What are your thoughts? Am I just paranoid or does this seem like a serious problem for the show? Feel free to share in the comments below.

The Supes' powers seem to be massively influenced by their emotional state. If Ryan was killed by Butcher, I think the loss of his only son would send Homelander into such a manic state that we could see him wipe a city or two off the map. Imagine his normal lazy laser version instead being fuelled by pure hatred for his son dying, or him flying straight through the bases of buildings as he lasers the support beams.

I was thinking he looked week cause he has never really been pushed to his limits before so he might not even know what he is capable of

@@gazaalley3862 He looked a bit weak when Soldier Boy grabbed his jaw as Butcher & Maeve grabbed his arms. He was taken by complete surprise though, was in an incredibly emotional state at the thought of finally having a family only to be essentially ambushed again. If the show runners have Ryan killed, I think that would be the best catalyst to see Homelander lose it, perhaps he would give compound V to his loyal supporters so they could help him unleash havoc.

Great analysis, this video should have more views. Although I disagree that the lack of destruction in the fights can be traced to budget, just look at what Smallville was doing with Clark Kent, a fitting example of the same power level on a TV Budget.

I haven't seen Smallville but from what I've heard I think I might like it a lot! And yeah, I agree that you can show a lot of destruction with a limited effects budget if you use it well. But fight scenes have never been The Boys' strong suit, so I won't count on the effects getting much better in future seasons.

I think Homelander was "easily" beat by the other 3 supes because Homelander tends to shoot down, not against those with equal power levels. So when he was faced with an actual challenge, he struggled.

The difference is that the writers of this show have managed to improve significantly on the source material whereas the writers of Game of Thrones never managed to do that really. I have faith that they will continue to do a great job with The Boys.
Billy is an experienced fighter as were Soldier Boy and Maeve. Homelander is used to relying on his ability to overpower anyone so he probably never learned to fight or kept up with training. That doesn't make him any less scary if he really decides to let loose on a bunch of normies.
