    In 10-15 years, The Simpsons will become completely unwatchable.

  • @weispaints
    @weispaints 10 месяцев назад +8

    This is unwatchable, every clip you pointed out is why the show is so amazing. The show is great because it’s a cartoon that connects so viscerally with actual life. In every instance the cartoon aspect takes it to the extreme but the characters motives are driven by real world conflict. Like public outrage, shame, internal conflict, etc. things we all go through. In this way Homer or Bart or Lisa or Marge are a vessel for the audience to explore and laugh about real things they might have actually dealt with in their lives. In writing the characters this way the audience will never side against the characters despite how deplorable their actions may be because the internal conflict is so relatable. Even in the episode where Homer leaves his father to die, you understand Homer as a viewer. You understand fear, you understand a complicated relationship with a family member, and you understand shame. It’s amazing writing and not to far at all.

    I don't know why people keep comparing this to Family Guy, South Park, etc.
    It's pushing "too far" because this show's NOT like those and doesn't need to be.

    The only scene I was able to stomach for a bit was that musical number in the episode "Saddlesore Galactica."
    Then seeing Homer getting out of that secret door, wondering if what he witnessed was real or all a dream. Till one of the elves popped up to respond that it was clearly not the latter. The ending of that scene was more humorous than anything.
    Homer: Was it real? Or was it just a wonderful dream?
    Elf: No dream! Lose the race, Fatboy!!!

    7:05 the point of the episode where Bart plays little league was that public ridicule often goes too far and using Bart an innocent child to depict that only amplifies how ridiculous public outrage often is. You dullards missed that one by a mile.

    Context is key. A lot if not all of the episodes featured were done that way intentionally.

      Because women doing that is considered funny, comedic, even socially acceptable. A man doing the same thing is committing rape. Since society in general can’t see women as rapists this joke is considered perfectly fine.

      @@justapeacefulmanwhosbornin7291 I don’t like the scene either just pointing out why something like that would get done. It’s shameful that men are the butt off so many jokes, especially dads, yet tell even a mild joke about a woman it’s as if you went to Xi jinping and made a stereotypical Chinese joke. WWIII level stuff. I’m not saying we should have jokes about raping women or homer raping marge but if we’re enlightened enough to know those kind of jokes are bad why aren’t we enlightened enough to know that the ones where men are raped are bad too????

      @@justapeacefulmanwhosbornin7291 a damn crappy one. We’ve learned to respect women but in doing so we forgot how to respect men. We live in a society that has been sold the falsehood of either men and dads rule and thus women and moms are second class OR women and moms rule and men and dads are second class. We can’t seem to agree to both being FIRST class. A society that divides people into smaller groups rather than uniting them is not a society that will last.

    Mr. Burns stepping on everyone is the literal point of the only two-parter in show history. That’s why he got shot halfway through. That’s not so much the show going too far as providing one of the most iconic moments in show history.
