WHY BHVR BANNED MODDING IN DBD

- DBD mods is basically what my channel started with several years ago. I was super late to the party, cause by that time the modding scene in Dead by Daylight was rather dead, than alive. A lot of people miss the times when players could freely mod on the live servers without the fear of getting banned and they genuinely wonder why BHVR had to ban modding in DBD. Well, in this video I will tell you exactly why.

🖥️ OLD DBD
The footage of old DBD versions that you see in my videos isn't old. It's actually new. At least for the most part. I specifically record it for every video by playing old versions of Dead by Daylight with my friends. Yes it's actually possible, and if you wanna play them too, there is a step by step guide for this in my Discord server. Or alternatively you can do it through the Archives of Dead by Daylight website at: dbdca.rf.gd

📄 ABOUT THIS GAME
In case you randomly stumbled upon this video and you're wondering what this game even is, it's called Dead by Daylight. It's an asymmetric multiplayer horror game developed and published by BHVR Interactive. It's a 4v1game in which one player takes on the role of a killer and the other four play as survivors. The killer's goal is to hunt and impale each survivor on sacrificial hooks to appease a malevolent force known as the Entity. While the survivors have to avoid being caught and power up the exit gates by working together to fix five generators. Find out more at www.deadbydayl...

OK, I'm not doing the falling sigma inflencer tone at the end of sentences on purpose. There's just something wrong with my throat. I cough all the time and feel the need to clear my throat every 15 seconds. I've tried re-recording it but it just comes out exactly the same 😔
this sounds like what a "sigma" would say.
K0zy pilled
yikes. hope you feel better bud. throat problems always suck ass
A sigma would probably not misspell "Influencer" so you're all good.

Absolute gem of a video, Private Server was such a great time, I was so sad when it shut down
same. i was in the middle of making a video which required access to the PS when i realized it was gone. caught me off guard. i'm really looking forward to the come back of the PS.
oh and yeah thanks buddy!
i had no idea modded dbd was even a thing i missed out on! we need the private server comeback 2024!!
I hate you eat glass
Comeback is in the works
Bro behaviour need to pull a valve and hire some of these guys to crank out new modifiers
that's what i'm saying. the stuff is literally ready. just import it and monetize it
@@SireK0zytoo bad bhvr could NEVER do that due to the size of their egos
100% I've always said this, a steam workshop similar to warframe (which also works on the consoles of course) and allow the fans to make content and the community will vote on the best ones to get into the game. Then the income of the item (say....a mask) got 70% to the artist and 30% to the developers/publishers.
@@aecraI believe it’s more of an issue where despite hiring these modders, they still need to be supervised by a few official workers. You’re effectively hiring more people and taking some people from other teams in your company to be able to make sure these modders dont screw a ton over and copy/paste their own codes in
Valve did this with L4D2 officially I know, but they were less active (and maybe still are), where they could afford to have a few members supervise and review the code where Behavior probably couldn’t. I don’t think it’s ego, but rather taking resources away to look over this code when they could remake their own
@@SireK0zy in fact it isn't ready, dbd existing not only on pc (xbox, ps4/5, NINTENDO FUCKING SWITCH) so they need to optimise stuff (specially for switch), test it on others platforms and so on. I see same problem in Minecraft community, people just don't understand differents between modding and official release. Simply edding new stuff on top of the game much easier then implementing. And don't forget about asking boss every fucking time about each little change. Speaking of which - why 2v8 don't have all killers? Because - 1st they don't know reaction of the company on this mod and 2nd I guess they need to ask about edding licenced killers in this mods (my eng very bad at writing, so i guess you will understand what I'm trying to say)

I understand and get why they removed modding but I miss Jason Trapper so much, it was basically like having Jason as a killer in DBD 😩😩
Whenever I think of DBD modding, RekNak always comes to mind. Dude was insane with the stuff he put out there, from Slenderman to 2v8 and over to Killer Deathmatch. Both really cool to see how talented people were and are when it comws to that and sad that as of right now they can't live out their talent.
If they are so concerned they should’ve made official mod pages that’s easier to install so then there’s no reason to use mods that behavior cant control
What do you expect from a company that took 4 years to add a search bar for perks
@@ndoniomuele376 true
@@ndoniomuele376😂
I think it's also important to remember that the mods were probably putting BHVR at risk of being sued by companies that were having their intellectual property put in the game without their permission. Afterall, why buy Springtrap when you can just mod a character to look like Springtrap? Even if BHVR wasn't responsible for the mods, making sure that DBD players weren't stealing from potential collaborators is important for them to maintain good standing in the industry.
lammmeee, if someone buys something it's theirs to modify. same thing as buying a bike.
@@YTmakesDumbUpdatesyeah but license is license...
@@Bejaphoneyeah but it doesn’t make sense at all. If that was the case then Garry’s mod wouldn’t exist all because some 7 year old uploaded a Fortnite skin to the workshop. You should be allowed to mod anything into any game. As long as it doesn’t affect its game play in public servers. As long as the game company doesn’t do it and the modder does they should be allowed to add Jason to dbd
@@theskeletonman2092You have no idea how licenses work if you are both comparing dead by daylight with Gary’s mod and by saying that the modded can add anything they want without upright permission from the creator.
@@theskeletonman2092well there was the cas eof nintendo removing remated assets from gmod, so your argument is kinda invalid.
And unlike gmod which main appeal was the liberty to pull anything from mods, Dbd relies on the collaborations so risking possible collaborations for mods which not only doesn't genrate revenue but most people don't even use.

@@SireK0zyit's funny how some of those Mods actually became so real now
Being able to create mods to change the music of killers was so much fun. It even gave me joy when fighting killers I otherwise wasn't the biggest fan of like doctor or spirit.
Although its a small portrait mod, I am happy to be the first person to post to Dead by Daylight's Gamebanana page.
wow, was that actually you? that's legendary!
3:21 I NEED THAT SABLE MOD!!
Bro Ayo?
okay, backflip bubba is unexpected
bro a killer vs killer mode would go so hard
6:25 weave attunement+franklins demise, even then, being able to see survivors only does so much if they’re good at looping
I was considering a mod with realistic Mori - in this case, arms, legs, other parts of body would fly, discovering what is inside our beloved survivors.
15:36 I cant wait till its fully out to the public, I'm sure when it comes fully back It'll come back stronger than it ever was. So far the development is going really really well so i have high hopes for the open launch being soon!
it is already looking pretty promising. the amount of mods these guys already have in their library is insane
I remember making custom Terror radius music for people, and doing commissions at the time, the community was so well put together, I miss messing around and making wwise files and Recreating the standard 4 Terror radiuses for Default killer to be something like a remixed version of songs, and my Twins Mod for Junko and Monokuma was SO good T_T
15:37 I was almost worried that you didn't know about the 400 hours I put into porting over 400 custom cosmetics for the newer upcoming private server🤭
ohhh noo man. i'm keeping an eye on what you guys are doing! great job so far. i'm actually impressed
You guys got a discord? I'm interested :D
youre a legend, isnt bee and ayren working with that too

@@SireK0zy hey, where can I find the discord server for that private server?

Wow, I didn’t think it would be easy to add an animation for characters in this game, but seeing these mods? Some of them look so insanely smooth. Really makes you question why BHVR can’t do animations for perks like reassurance (and they failed to add that decisive strike animation) and other perks in the game already.
Oh hi. I saw me
Awesome vid man. I wish I wasn't a pleb and knew more about all the mods. I woulda been all over that.
Brother I've been referring to you too many times in my videos recently :) thanks man. Means a lot when its coming from you! If you're ever curious about mods and all this stuff don't hesitate to ask me on Twitter or discord
@@SireK0zy Haha maybe thats why you got recommended to me.
I'll definitely be looking into the mods
One thing that should be mentioned, is the fact that BHVR is considering, to make the game officially mod compatible. In one of the recent satisfaction surveys, they asked what kind of content people are interested in. One of the things listed, was to make the game officially compatible with community created mods, and things like custom maps, game modes and killers where given as examples. Knowing BHWR, it would take them years to implement, but it is on their radar.
The tragic thing is that another reason a lot of these got removed is because certain people used it to gain unfair advantages in the game, just as you said.
And there's still ways to do that.
Considering that people have been using unfair ways of gaining advantages for ages now, I doubt it
The most likely situation is that modding is becoming more popular and impressive (especially in comparison to behavior's minimal effort content) so they were worried it might impact their main way of making money, selling skins
Vermintide 2 understood that having a separate, modded-gameplay launch option made such silliness and creativity to have accessibility (regardless of how much or little traction it actually got)
So for something like Dead By Daylight would be pretty cool
I absolutely felt so sad when the private server died. It was right after I did a small perk mod and created a boon prove-thyself (replacing dark theory)
I really hope they add a randomize loadout button to the game. I had to create my own python script to randomize my perks, and uses the search bar to equip them for me, while it just takes the perk list straight from Nightlight's source.
If the new private server is on a more recent version, would love to make a button in the loadout that randomizes for you instead of external script
I still can't believe Springtrap in DBD will be real soon
That isn’t confirmed. But, I have a hunch it will be springtrap
I think one interesting thing BHVR could try is a 5v5 mode. It's 2v8, except it's 1 killer and 4 survivors competing against the other 1 killer and 4 survivors. Basically the 1 killer would be attempting to catch the opposing 4 survivors, and vice versa. They could try making it so that completing a gen for one team might give their killer a slight buff for a short time, and maybe their killer could also give the survivors slight buffs when they perform certain actions, like downing an opposing survivor for example. It would probably be something really out there for an attempt at a new mode, but the concept sounds fun. Of course this makes the game less asymmetrical, but still could be fun!
Another take on a 2v8 mode could be a 1v1v8 mode, which would basically just be 2v8, but instead of the killers working with each other, they could try to work against each other, see who can get the most downs/hooks and whatnot
I love this idea but it's far too complicated for behavior to ever implement, remind yourself that 2v8 has been possible since the game dropped and the only reason behavior took so long is because they're lazy, especially for a limited mode this is just too much effort for them to consider it worth it when they can reuse something they already have or slap some special effects in the standard game before calling it a day
@@StolenTheifYou have no idea how development works lmao. Its not as simple as flipping a switch and then bam 2v8 works flawlessly. The modders can do it quickly because they don't have standards to upkeep. It is allowed to be very buggy or have jank.
But when the actual dev makes a mode there is way higher expectations for it. The videos you are watching are cutting out the parts where the mod broke or did something super jank. If you ever tried to mod single player games like Skyrim for example you would understand how easily they break.
@@mastersparkles1584 devs have higher expectations because they're paid to do what they do and regularly spend their days doing it, you fail to understand the vast difference between a modder and developer, also you seem to forget that behavior regularly has to disable characters and perks because of shoddy implementation
@StolenTheif That contradicts your point that they are just lazy. If they are paid to do it and regularly spend their days doing it, then obviously it has nothing to do with being lazy lmao.
You're the one who is vastly misunderstanding the difference between modder and Dev. I explained it already.
The shoddy implementation of content is not because they are lazy. It is because the game was never designed to be expanded and still exist 9 years later so they have to fight their own code to get things to work.
Sorry man but you have no idea what your talking about and contradicted yourself.
I'll answer that the simply way: Because behaviour is antifun. When they want make changes on the game they first ask that: Are players having fun? Yes? Nerf it/Change it. No? Enjoy!
That is such a distorted point of view. I hate BVHR as much as the next guy but it's not like they are trying to kill their source of income lol.
Imagine the killer randomly could enter the locker room
imagine a freaky mode

7:00 it was a twitter user that posted it, i forget the exact person but im pretty sure they ran off with no remorse after people got REALLY upset with them.literally a week from patch date too iirc
did they share gameplay of this mod on twitter? i'd love to see it in action. (for scientific purposes of only ofc)
@@SireK0zy it wasnt gameplay i don't think, just a screenshot with a caption around the lines of like "lol" exact same premise as what you mention. Probably just a file shared among a few ppl
I was around in the modding community and I know people who removed macmillain wall textures to play nurse with wallhacks and removing chase music and replacing survivor sounds with stridor versions to play spirit, i find that it’s probably better that modding was removed so these things couldnt exist anymore. There needs to be strict monitored guidelines or people will just naturally abuse it for advantages

I just want old movement back :(
Hey Sire! I'm so happy to see a new post from you!
Having a separate game mode for just mods would go hard like it’s just a game mode where everyone agrees to have visual mods. Side note BHVR taking out the cosmetic glitch where you could use the locked cosmetics with other gear was so lame it was so cool seeing the OG ghostface mask on the blighted body
I feel like if bhvr embraced the modding scene, and gave them a ruleset such as no license manipulation, they could easily make bank. Like, hire the mods for new game mode ideas but also cosmetics, etc. I think it would give the community a new "breath offresh air" knowing that ppl who have been modding for years were accepted at bhvr and it would be really exciting to see new stuff for this currently pretty stale game.
I would only mod to get the old movement but now im terrified in spite of getting banned for it

Using mods to make dbd have old lighting, props, survivor skins and animations made dbd actually fun again. The aesthetic was peak before they ruined it for allbright comp nerds.

Hey I’m ChillJunky! Funny to see my Reddit post get mentioned and helped raise awareness in the DBD community.
I will miss mods forever 😔💔
Answer to title: Because they are indie devs with the brain of a AAA company. They would rather make the money themselves than open up mod support and keep a game forever active. You think Skyrim or Fallout would be alive in any form if Bethesda started suing and banning players who made mods? Nah Skyrim would of saw 1% of the players it has seen over the years. DBD is stagnant because we can't do anything except queue for the same mode and hope they release something fun to do besides it. We need permanent modes if not for public queue for private matches. How do you survive with only 1 game mode? They are riding the licenses they've obtained otherwise they would of shutdown just like Friday the 13th. If Myers sold poorly, we wouldn't have DBD today. So it shows that their game had nothing to do with it, it's the big names keeping it alive. So they need to milk players with dlcs to keep the servers up, otherwise DBD will become a Concord.
youre comparing 2 single player games to an online player v player game 💀
Bubba backflipping is hilarious! 😂
Behaviour should just make a mod store that applies across all clients when they connect together where modders can upload paid skins/mods (with approval) and get paid while Behaviour takes a cut
Win win
Well Behavior likes having control over their money so I doubt it, it'd be unreliable and they like relying on their in-house artists
Why wouldnt bhvr just make it so that only verified mods from the steam workshop would be able to be loaded? Thats definitely possible, i've seen it before
cause it will inevitably create a parallel market of skins. and instead of bying them from the store people will start comissioning them from mod makers. which they already do. it's just now they are locked in the old dbd versions and no one can see them
no way i got dbd and a pc for the first time in 2022 and missed all this 😭
Bhvr needs a Jordan collab 💯💯💯💯 Dwight lookin toooo clean
i think i disagree on the bhvr stealing mod ideas from creators. Its very possible they couldve stolen them but the ideas to make random perks and make a map dark arent exactly the most craziest and inventive ideas ever. Besides i think another aspect that isnt talked about is that players kind of ask for these things to be official so i fail to see a problem that people have an idea and ask someone else to realize it and they do.
Then why is it ok for people to steal their code and assets fair is fair
@@backloggaming3699 they said they don't agree that they stole the idea from mods, they don't mean if BHVR are in the right to do so or not
If a skyrim modder modded dbd they would turn this into an rpg with how advanced modding has become
Dang, they rlly need to add that trickster neon map mod
The First Person survivor mod looks so fun. I kinda wanna use it... I wish there was a mode like it.
Memories
Damn the trikster map IS so sick
absolutely my most favorite map ever. at least style wise
I remember that one of the first DBD mods that i saw was one that replaced the survivors with the Among Us crew member, the first thought was "ohohoho, this will be %100 banned"
In my opinion. Modding adds a unique level of longevity to a game. They could possibly allow modding once the game dev team goes creatively bankrupt/lose creativity for the game, so the game atleast has engagement to flex in front of investors.
Other than being able to change the perk icons, which we still can, I'd love if we could change the chase music. If it wasn't bannable, I would definitely give a custom radius to killers that use the default or bring the old ones that got changed (hello, all the washing machines).
Sadly, it also could be used for cheating, like making the music quiet as a killer so you can hear survivors better or, when changing it for the killers without their own, to find out who you verse earlier.
If anything I hope they keep cracking down and making harsh boundaries for all the unlocker users and people selling injected accounts. Same with the creators who try to boost it
Honestly I would love to have mods like custom icons or skins as Steam workshop mods but at the same time (at least within custom skins) their in-game store as well as the officials skins, would die off...
modding can very easily be cheating, just give the killer a much bigger model so that you can see them at all times ROFL
yep, that's the point
That's exactly what he said in the video.
The ammount of oblivious comments about modding is scary. Is almost like they want DBD to implode due to lawsuits.
I forget who it was but I'll never forget the killer main who took away the chase music so they could hear footsteps during chase 😭😭😭
they should add the scoops ahoy demogorgon it fits perfectly
I miss modding quite a lot tbh, I spent around 6 months adding characters from Super Mario, and had a lot of fun turning killers into characters that suited them (Like Bowser over nemesis). Making cosmetic mods was one of the best things I’ve ever done!
It’s actually crazy the fact there still isn’t a skin for Freddy💀
Quite a bit of mods for women's clohting.
More importantly, it makes to why they shut it down. It's interesting to hear about the impact modding had with bvhr. The closest thing I can think of is the competitions they run with cosmetics in the game. Hopefully, they could expand that.
If they capitilized on mods and added "cosmetic only" ones to the steam workshop, it really coulda been somethin
Can't make money off the steam workshop, the only thing that matters to behavior is making money off you, don't start trusting them just because they hired a better PR team
What behaviour should’ve done is made official servers and a couple modded servers, and when they plan to do an event they can make an event for like $500 where the best entry goes into the game or something
But then again servers are a big cost for any game so running extra servers just for modding might be really stupid from an economical perspective
I'd love to see another private server with many mods it was so fun
If anything, having modded outfits would make people want to buy the other outfits in shop.
I played on the private server, but none of my friends was gonna go through the hassle of installing it. Even if they were I would not be able to get 9 other people to play 2v8, and you dont even progress.
Killer seeing the location of all survivors is the 2024 meta with all the aura reading 👁👄👁
If I ran a game and knew people were modding it to have custom interesting and fun game modes, I would 100% take inspiration from them.
Funny enough springtrap is actually coming this summer
Rip Legion survivors.
I miss the mod I installed where it changed all the pfp of killers and Survivors to be original Quentin old pfp. The toolbox app I got it from doesn’t work anymore and with some updates ago it reverted back to original pfp. Only thing that stayed was the perk icons that had some of them changed to where it replaced them with Quentin in the perk drawing style.

3:36 SHEEEESH
killer deathmatch looks SO fun though ugh
The pink beartraps were never made publicly available, but the person who posted it did make a real mod for it just to show everyone how modding could be used to cheat as an example
Dude i want scoops ahoy demo to be an official skin. Also the first person camera for survivors should be basekit or a switch option
i love how you pronounce longevity
if dbd were truly cool it would never need mods
Bubba vs. Tiny Bubba had me laughing too hard
Them banning modding because of cheating is a S tier justification, anyone remember survivors who play with super stretched resolution? Hot take but I also believe that playing the game with filters that make it super eye-bleedingly bright is cheating as well. However, BHVR has almost no way to enforce a theoretical rule against them since they are done with third party programs that often interact with the game in other ways too, so to ban such programs from interacting with DBD would be creating a trolley problem.
Bro this game need to bring back old movement
Not sure if it’s just me, but the Fabyrka map looks exactly like the Steel Mill out of Frank Stone!
Well, the name of the map means factory so it's no wonder it's so similar.
When they stop supporting this game and licences aren't as important too obtain, I'll have spent the time learning how to code so I can keep making my own stuff for this game. I refuse to ever let it die I'll spend my whole life learning the code to keep this treasure
I've always said that BHVR should add workshop or at least add a map rotation system where there's maps made by the community or something like that.
so excited for the private server, when is it going to be up???
i do get why they removed mods but like bro, PLEASE I NEED THE ACE SKIN BRO ILL DO ANYTHING IM SO DOWN BAD FOR THAT SKIN BRO
