I have an i7 3770K. 32 GB RAM anr an RTX 4060 Ti 16GB graphics card. Playing Spider-man Remastered was great. I just modified the settings of the game and it runs flawlessly without stuttering. Enjoying this processor. Bought this I remember years ago. And still works great. Can play the latest AAA Games.

I had a customer last week with a sandy bridge 3770K pushing a 3060, and that PC was surprisingly capable. Wasn't as snappy and smooth as my i9 14900k or other customers 14th gen PCs, but the 3770K was fine. He wanted me to install a new PSU, and I got to test his rig out after. Whomever bought the i7 3770k at launch really made out.

I have been playing on this GPU for over 10 years LOL😂. At first people didn't recommend the i7 3770K because they thought HT was pointless, but a few years later games started using HT and I saw huge gains thanks to this feature (40-45fps vs 55-65fps in Shadow Of The Tomb Raider). This CPU was able to run pretty much every game in my Steam library at 60fps for 10 years (some games needed tweaking, but still look much better than PS4/XOX versions).
Modern games (PS5 ports) however have destroyed this CPU (stuttering and 30-40fps dips), so I finally decided to upgrade to the AM5 platform and 7800X3D CPU. I will see how long the 7800X3D lasts, but I can always buy a 9800X3D in a few years without changing platforms.

I still run the thing, bought it when it was around 2 years old for 50€, best 50€ invested xD. I just kept changing gpus and 2 psu. Now paired with 3060ti still works wonders for games I play and tested. Star Citizen I tried is only exception, that game kills the PC.

I upgraded from my 3770k back in like 2018 or something, and it was disappointing because the upgrade was relatively minimal and almost unnecessary. In fact it seemed like kind of a downgrade for particular tasks. I upgraded GPUs two or three times before I had to upgrade that CPU. I could have easily got 10 years out of that thing.

I've managed to snag a Ryzen 5 1600 AF for just 20$ recently, even when paying a little bit more it's still a better option than opting in for a 3rd generation intel where used motherboards for it can cost as much as new B450s for the Ryzen and you also give up NVMe support when opting for an old CPU.

The Dell midtower Optiplexes that support it (3010, 7010, 9010 MT) uses a standard 24pin ATX connector, so there is no need for adapters when switching out the PSU to utilize more powerful GPU's. The only caveat to that is that it can only drop-in fit non-modular standard size PSU's as modular ones are too long to install without dismantling the side panel door lorck.

However, modern games (PS5 ports) have destroyed this CPU (stuttering and sudden dips to around 30-40fps dips during data deconpression), so I finally decided to upgrade to the AM5 platform and 7800X3D CPU. I will see how long the 7800X3D lasts, but I will probably buy a 9800X3D in a few years as it will also work on the AM5 platform.

  • @25myma

Problem is each tick and tock only brought like 5-7% of improvement, like A YAER. So you have the 3770 and the 7700, with 25% performance difference, 4 yrs and 4 gens later. That's what happens with no competition. So yeah, core for core, 2nd to 7gen Intel are in ~30% ballpark and not worth upgrading, and in laptops is even worse; they had dual core i5 and i7s up to gen 8 when Zen shook them up, which is crazy.
In 2024, I'd recommend no less than lga2011 v1-2, 8-12 core xeons and $40-50 Chinese boards for ultra low budgets; theyre oft cheaper than i5/7, core count makes up a bit for weak singlecore and ecc ddr3 is like $40 for 64GB.

I bought an rtx 2060 and tossed it in my machine with the i7-3770k i forget what i had it overclocked to. But it could run cyberpunk just fine. Which means it ran pretty much any other game with good settings just fine also. Yes it's bottlenecking the 2060. On some games I am only able to reach 50-65 percent gpu usage. So it isn't ideal by any means. But to run cyberpunk with Like 45-50fps with ray tracing on 1080p, maybe a bit of DLSS but it looked great. It would take a good dip every here and there to 30-35 fps but not often enough to be super annoying. Try and do this with any other processor, same age formula. Currently it's what, 12 years old? You try and run any AAA title of any year, using a processor from 12 years before, and report your findings. If it can even run the title, there aren't gonna be any that can do what the 3770k does.

I have one paired with a 660TI and I feel like it can't even handle RUclips anymore but that is mostly cause of the 660TI.
Right now I'm trying to watch Prime Video and is not smooth as I wish it would be and also, I've been having some driver issues that I might just need to switch to some pre 2020 driver or something cause once I install the NVIDIA drivers I'm unable to go 1440p 60Hz on my secondary, only goes to 30Hz and feels REALLY BAD.
Been thinking about upgrading to a 6600 but I'm not so sure it's worth it. At least I could keep the GPU for a new machine, if I decide to go that route...
