    Comparing English and US stadium sizes misses a few major facts, we have about 3 times as many clubs and about 20% of the population in a country so small that one city will likely have several clubs in it or near it.
    I'm from Birmingham, I support Aston Villa, there are 5 other clubs within 20 miles of our stadium. None of the clubs are doing very well in recent years but combined these 6 clubs have a current average attendance of about 140,000, if you combined each clubs record attendance its about 350,000.
    Imagine the size of the stadium if there wasn't another club within 20 or even 30 miles of Villa Park.

Other great stadiums in Europe that I've seen are Camp Nou in Barcelona, Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, the new San Mamés in Bilbao, the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam, Allianz Arena in Munich, Estadio da Luz in Lisbon and Estadio do Dragão in Porto. They're worth visiting even if there's no game on.

    You need to know that many of our Towns and Cities have more than one football club within them, with four divisions, all professional. consisting of 92 clubs. The divisions below that are either professional or semi-proffesional too. Plenty of stadiums in the second or third tier have capacities of 25,000 or 30,000 plus as unlike with American football, teams can get relegated. To give you an idea, there are technically 17 professional and semi-pro' teams in London as well, the lagest ground being Tottenham Hotspurs (just), down to Wealdstone at just over 4,000.
    There are two larger stadiums in London too, however they're both for the national teams at Rugby and Football. Although big Cup matches for club sides are played at both.

    1) Looks dope both inside and out
    2) steepest seating allowed in the UK in the single tier south stand (largest single tier stand in UK)
    3) On site brewery capable of 10000 pints per minute.
    4) Very very loud when the fans get going, partly due to the south stand, but the entire stadium is designed to reverberate the sound around the stadium (they workeed with professional sound artists when building it)
    5) Longest bar in Europe
    6) Beer cups fill from bottom
    7) Three part retractable pitch to unveil an artifical pitch used for nfl and concerts
    8) option to buy tunnel club seats (expensive..) that see into the players tunnel

    Nottingham Forest are currently the oldest league team , formed in 1865.
    They were the first team to give the referee a whistle , the first team to use a wooden crossbar and a Forest player was the first to use shin pads , also the reason Arsenal play in red and white is because Forest lent an old kit to a former player that had signed for them.
    We have the history of the game embedded in our very being (yes I am a Forest fan) .
    Not only that we went from getting promoted from the 2nd tier to being 2 times champions of Europe within 3 seasons and had the best ever English manager never to manage England, you should check him out as he is a legend of the game , his name is Brian Clough and he really was the special one.

    The seats around football stadiums reflect teh team colours. For example my team (West Brom) are blue and white and so are the seats. They often share arranged to show the team Mascot, e.g. Woverhampton Wanderers, known as 'The Wolves' have a wolf's head pattern made with black seats within the old gold (dark yellow) seating. we don't have covered stadiums so that the grass can grow naturally with sunlight and rain, nor does it rain that often in the uK, certainly not as much as the average American seems to think. Plus the players are very active in the game, they average around 8 miles running in the 90 minutes play so cooling rain is often welcome.

Now they have had a few to settle in the atmosphere is getting better. The seats are quite far away from the pitch but with Great British athletics about to stop using it, the seats can start to be reconfigured for football matches and the fans will be able to get closer. It will also have the potential to have the highest capacity of any stadium in the premier league without and building work. Other teams are jealous but won’t admit it. NFL teams are often hundreds of miles apart and play 8 home matches a year (if they don’t get to the playoffs). Boston and New York are supposedly close neighbours but are 225 miles apart. Yeah. Old Trafford looks better on the outside than it is inside, if I'm honest. Visited the stadium to watch a match for the first time since I was 8 years old early this year and although those stupid fences have long gone and it's now all-seater like all grounds, I did get the sense that it's seen better days. I was shocked at just how shitty it looked inside on the way to the seating areas. If only they'd spent half as much money on the rest of the ground as they had renovating the front of the stadium and the United store over the years. Still have vague memories of the store being little bigger than a fish & chip shop in the 70s.

    How many league football teams are there in London?
    As of the 2022-23 season, there are seventeen teams playing in professional leagues in London: seven play in the Premier League, six in the Football League, four in the National League.
    London teams have won a total of 21 English Championships, 35 FA Cups, 12 EFL Cups, 8 Community Shields, 5 Football League Championships after Premier League was started, one Club World Cup, two Champions Leagues, five Cup Winners' Cups, four UEFA Cups/Europa Leagues, two Super Cups, and two Intertoto Cups. In the 1989-90 season, eight of London's professional clubs were in the top tier of English Football at the same time, meaning that 40% of the member clubs of the First Division that season were based in one city.
    Fulham were founded in 1879 and are London's oldest club still playing professionally.

    Good Reaction,as usual, my friend.I am in my 7th Decade of attending London matches and The Number 1 Stadium=Tottenham Hotspurs or Spurs is the only modern Stadium that I really like because, besides the superb architecture it is the world's first to have a dividing and fully retractable pitch, meaning that it is easily able to morph and fit a variety of events.
    The only thing wrong with it is the pitiful name "The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium".It was NEXT DOOR to the original "White Hart Lane" Stadium so, unlike, some Clubs they did not have to move a few miles to modernize.

    • @wheeldesire
      @wheeldesire Год назад +1

      The name is just a placeholder though, for corporate sponsorship (pending; allegedly Google). By abstracting "White Hart Lane" away from the new one, it meant there'd be less opposition to the 'new' name. Part of the appeal for a sponsor is surely knowing it will keep the name the pay for, and not be ignored like people did for St James Park, or would for Anfield/Old Trafford.

      @@wheeldesire Thanks for your reply and you are more knowledgeable than me about The Corporate ramifications.

It's rather clear that the board expected to gain naming rights very soon after opening, but the delay on the completion basically pushed it into the pandemic, which meant spooking sponsors into spending big on such things. I am in my 7th decade of attending London matches and was one of the 58,000 who got into WHL when they beat Millwall 1/0 in an F A Cup Replay in January 1967 after I could not get a ticket in the 41,000 sell-out crowd at The Old Den. I still remember that as the best atmosphere I have known and 15,000, mostly Millwall, were locked out with 73,000 turning up.Spurs went on to Win The Cup.I loved WHL but this is the only new ground that I prefer to the old.

    • @wheeldesire
      @wheeldesire Год назад +1

      @@Isleofskye For all the criticism he gets, Daniel Levy knew (or maybe wanted) to deliver an 'experience', rather than just a cash cow. Compare it to the "London Stadium", and you start to see that the best stadiums are more than just seats. As historic as old WHL was, it was still cold and limited to 'just' turning up to see a match. They now have it so that it's almost like a resort - and that means the experience for other events is also improved. Very expensive, but also very clever and necessary to the underlying principles of modern sports.
