I like T Kingfishers ongoing obsession with chickens.

This is amazing. I’ve only read Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher but I’m keen to read more of her books. Do you have any recommendations please? 😊

I'm so surprised and happy that you liked Once Upon a broken Heart! For me it's like reading a fairy tale without reading an actual fairy tale.

Nettle and Bone was so good, I recently purchased Hollow Places as well

Once Upon a Broken Heart was a wonderful surprise for me, I gave it 5 stars! It sounded good but I was afraid it would be too young adult for me. With all the tropes in it I would think I would have hated it, but I had so much fun reading that book and it definitely read like a magical fairytale. I am hoping to start Belladonna soon and that I will enjoy that one as well. Thanks for sharing!

For me it was Circe by Madeline Miller. I am quite reluctant with classical mythology retelling as I know many of the original myths they pull from. But the way Circe was written caught me, and pulled me of my reading slump! I'm still hesitant to pick the Song of Achilles though, I believe that Circe was a one-time thing for me.

I’m hoping I really like Circe, and even though I didn’t love SoA, hopefully you’ll enjoy it!

I typically don't read a lot of romance books, but when I read Northern Lights by Nora Roberts a few years ago, I ended up really enjoying it.
On the reverse side, The Night Parade by Ronald Malfi should have been one I loved. It's a horror novel dealing with the fall of civilization after a new virus called Wanderer's Folly shows up. I don't want to get too much into spoilers, so I'll just say the narrative style and his prose just bogged this book down for me.

I read Once Upon a Broken Heart almost as a little joke for my channel but ended up liking it more than I had any business liking it.

Have you read the black witch chronicles? It’s not a main point of the story but the main character plays the violin. Plus I just think the series is amazing

I had not expected to love Micheal Crichton's "Sphere", but I did. I often do not like how something to do with aliens or the future is handled (i.e. nonsensical, unbelieveable or ridden with plotholes), nor when there is a rising death tally situation with people arguing and accusing, etc.

I love a good hades and Persephone retelling so I was excited to get an ARC of The maiden & the unseen but unfortunately it was just pages and page of smut and no story! I like a steamy read but I need plot and steam! Lightlark by Alex Asher on paper from the synopsis is my kind of read but it fell flat on its face and with all the controversy with her talking about things on her social media that didn’t even happen in the book! Like oh theirs a steamy romance…. No there isn’t lol! Killers of a certain age by Deanna raybourn normally I avoid thrillers like the plague but this was so good!! Lots of fun

Oooh, "Gilgi - One of us" is one! I just read it for Uni and it's everything I tend to run from: German literary fiction set inbetween the world wars and with a heavy focus on a romance. AND YET! This book spoke on a spiritual level to me.
On the other hand a lot of fantasy recently hasn't really pulled me in :( But could also just be a mood, we'll see

I was shocked I ended up giving Love on the Brain 4 stars since I gave The Love Hypothesis 1 star 😂. I think what worked for me in LotB was the more natural progression of the relationship and the fact that the characters actually talked to each other vs in The Love Hypothesis where forced proximity scenes just kept happening one after one another that I was expected to believe was "romantic". I couldn't give LotB 5 stars since there were little moments that irked me like the fact that he avoids her (in college) just because he thought she was pretty? And the fact that despite having a PhD in neuroscience or whatever she can't comprehend the idea that someone is having sex with you because they like you 💀💀 I shouldn't have liked the ending because it made next to no sense but I thought it was so ridiculous and over the top that I actually found it (unintentionally) funny and went along with it 😂😂 I'm glad I read it and I'm willing to try out the next novel Ali Hazelwood comes out with 😁

    • @ebnovels

no disrespect or anything i just think its interesting the different experiences people have with a book. i was surprised when you said that the characters actually talked with each other and as someone who usually doesnt hate every miscommunication scenario (i dont mind when they have a decent reason not to talk and as long as they are not together yet) and i thought the miscommunication in this one was too much.
