Very interesting video, though i think that also N. taracua soldier deserved a mention: thanks to their finely developed asymmetrical snapping technique (unique to termites), they're the current holder of the fastest animal movement "medal" having recently beaten Pericapritermes nitobei, another asymmetrical snapping termite. We're talking of speeds 2.5 times higher than those achieved by trap jaw ants! Termites are a very unknown and misunderstood but extremely interesting and varied infraorder, capable of many amazing and often completely unique feats... it would be great to see them featured again on this channel!
Thanks so much, 🤔I am thinking to include this point in a video along with other snapping insects, (like mantis shrimp, click beetles, ants etc.), thanks for pointing out, I need such comments 😀
@@AmpleWise That would be very interesting. Looking forward to it (and more termite content!). If you'll ever have doubts or want info on these great little buggers, just ask and i'll help as i can. Regarding termites and snaps it should also be said that, while many species employ the aforementioned asymmetrical snapping technique, many others use the symmetrical snapping one, who unlike the much faster and termite-unique asymmetrical snap is also employed by a few ants like Mystrium. Some termite specie can even use their mandibles both to inflict normal bites or to snap, according to the situation. Cheers!
