Pretty amazing that this performance is 20 yrs after his Oh Holy Night performance. I would say David doesn’t take voice for granted and is a forever student of the craft. Definitely a vocal athlete who puts in the hard work.
In an interview, he said he has to keep his voice "in shape" by following 3 rules. Every day, he must stay hydrated, get plenty of sleep, and sing. He said if he does not follow these rules, his voice suffers.

David is the best tenor in the world. You should listen to more of his songs. He mainly sings gospel and Christian music but can sing anything. He sings O Holy Night like no other one else! I listen to him everyday. Makes me feel that I’m in Heaven!
He's 52 and still sings at the top of his game. We saw him sing this live last summer, it's even better live.

David Phelps is extremely well known in the Gospel/Christian community. He has numerous recordings out and was classically trained. His vocals are basically flawless in any style.
Since David is 52 I really hope he gets the recognition that voice deserves. The songs he usually have such awesome and powerful messages and are met with an equally awesome and powerful voice.
I hope he’s recognized by the top singers today as he is by us. One of the best tenors/singers of all time.

I can't explain how happy I am to see this 'reaction' David Phelps is one of my fav singers...He mostly sings Gospel songs...Although he has recently released some contemporary songs like this one. His Gospel ones will take you to church my friend. recommend 'No More Nights. We shall behold him. End of the Beginning.....Star-Spangled Banner (with Led Zeppelins Kasmire twist) so many more lol....

He’s definitely not a Broadway Singer, although no doubt he could be. He’s dedicated his voice singing Southern Gospel. Look him up on RUclips and the Gaither Vocal Band. He’s the BEST vocalist on planet earth.
Isn't it funny that we all said 2 years ago David wasn't a Broadway singer and now, here in 2024 he just did a Broadway show and received rave reviews. We knew he was the best all along. GO DAVID!!!!
I told my husband today actually, that David Phelps is up there with John Farnham in singing. My favorite of David's non gospel tunes is Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is". Just wow!!

He I think still sings as part of the Gaither vocal singers. Guy Penrod is another 1 to listen to. And Gaithers do a signing of the national anthem check it out just pure awesomeness
@@leebrown9956 Guy and David aren’t with the Gaither Vocal Band anymore, however, when there’s a Gaither Homecoming/Reunion, they will often show up and may sing but they don’t travel as a group anymore.

Yes, he definitely has a voice from God!! He is classically trained and can sing any genre he chooses! He is incredible!! Another favorite of mine he does is What A Wonderful World! H writes and arranges with the same gift and talent he sings! He wrote End of the Beginning. Another huge favorite of mine! It let's you see his diversity.

David graduated from Baylor University where he majored in Opera. His prof wanted him to go into opera, but her preferred to stay with gospel music. He and Whitney became friends ... or so I've read ... and they were planning on recording something together.
I want to run back and reconcile with David. And I never dated him. 😂😂😂. He killed this.

The Broadway that you say you detect is actually Opera, not Broadway. David is a Baylor University graduate (Texas) and his professors tried to persuade him to go into Opera but he felt the calling of His Lord Jesus and took the gospel route instead. He met his lovely wife Lori at University. I saw him live in concert last year just a couple of days after his birthday. A member of the audience shouted a Happy Birthday to him. He shared that he and his wife share the same birthday. He then said that he was actually born 2 hours before Lori was so that makes him the boss of the family. He then gave an impish grin, looked around, lowered his voice and said, "Lori didn't hear me say that, did she?"

He’s classically trained and can sing all styles. He sings opera equally as well as Broadway, pop or jazz. He picks a song and then chooses how he wants to sing it. He actually keeps getting better. Truly gifted.
David has such an amazing voice! I'm an eighties child, grew up listening to Whitney absolutely wow us with her power, her control, just her pure vocals! There was no one like her!! I refuse to put anyone on her level but I also was exposed to David's talents as a teen and even though they have different styles I'm blown away with how pure his voice and control is as well!! Whitney seemed untouchable to me but as time has gone on I've grown to appreciate the few that can sing with her and especially those that honor her with covers that are legit. David is legit folks!!
Heard Whitney Houston visited one of his concerts and she was blown away by him and said he was the best male vocalist she ever heard. This is full circle. Wish they would have done a duet together.

I've always said Whitney was a once in an era talent. I still feel that way. She had a whole other level of excellence. There are many talents in Christian music like David Phelps. Most people outside of Christian music are not aware of.

As mentioned by many of the others, he has many awesome classics, but don't forget his new stuff. He writes and arranges pretty much all of his new stuff. "Hello Beautiful", "I Remember What We thought Love Was" and "Song for Sinners" are some examples. I have enjoyed your reactions for quite some time, glad you are on the mend.

I heard him with the Gaither Vocal Band and he described every night's concert as doing "Vocal Gymnastics". They toured a lot.
He does his own version but stays close true in many ways .
I'm glad you're feeling better. I remember a time when I was at work and had a 104.3F temp. My boss wouldn't come in early to relieve me so I had to stay for a few more hours while my tonsils got bigger and bigger. I didn't end up needing a hospital stay but it was pretty darn miserable.
