The funniest part of this show is seeing them kiss in the first episode then them both be shocked every episode after whenever people suggest they might like each other 😂
This is such a fun and light-hearted show. I love the cast and the characters are funny. It is a bonus to have a princess and knight queer relationship in the front focus of this show but I believe that is why there are some many very misogynistic reviews and a lot of trolls on promo and trailers of this show. The writing can be improved but it is an easy watch. Jade and Kit are definitely a swoon worthy couple.
This show is really fun and light-hearted. I really like it. It has a lot of queer, so no worries about that. It stands out from all the other fantasy shows out there nowadays.
I thankfully missed out on the misogynist, racist, lesbophobic haters of Willow. I just hear others bring them up. If anything that's more of a reason to watch this and flip them the bird. It is so blatant, because Kit is written very much as many princes would be in this kind of fantasy, so just a total double standard to see the same qualities a man would be praised for a woman gets shit for. Kit and Jade are cute. Willow gets more endearing as it's gone on, imo.
It really worth to watch the original movie before. It clears a lot of things about the parents, Elora and Willow, and the whole shebang with the background, the backstories and character's problems. Also, Kit and Airk are really like their parents, the arrogance, imaptience, recklessness, Airk womanizing, but also the bravery. The series got some bad rap becouse I THINK the showrunners deliberately switched-up some tipical fantasy cliches, with the language, the music choices also some other stuff later. I'm an old fantasy buff and like it very much. It's a fun adventure like a messy tabletop-RPG campaign, and that really can evoke the spirit of the original film.
"The series got some bad rap becouse I THINK the showrunners deliberately switched-up some tipical fantasy cliches, with the language, the music choices also some other stuff later." You're overthinking it and trying to be rational with the bad rap. The explanation is a lot more simpler than that. If you're familiar with the video game The Last of Us 2 and the hate campaign that was launched against it before it was even released. Then yeah the exact same thing happened here with Willow. Basically a bunch of misyonists, manbaby trolls foamed at the mouth and got enraged by the fact this show stars a lesbian and her romantic interest as part of the main cast and were already hating on the show from just the trailers. Then gave a bunch of fake review bombs with their hundreds of trolls accounts before the show even released in hopes it scares audiences away and causes it to fail. The main difference is that with TLOU2 it had tons of fans that counter balanced those fake reviews with legit reviews while Willow none of the big name review channels I've seen are covering it because likely many never seen the original 80s movie or weren't that big a fan of it.
Didn't have this on my radar cause i knew nothing about it, and honestly did care much, but from this reaction, i already like the premise so now am actually excited to see the rest of it. Hope you react to more
Yeah I think the haters are just really loud, and there's been some review-bombing. I don't think it's doing as bad as it seems. I love it, myself. Definitely watch the 80's movie if you want more backstory!
@@erickvoshel1 Or if you watch reviews, actually know the reviewer in question to determine if they're actually a legit reviewer who shares your thoughts on entertain or if they're going to be extremely bias or a outright bigoted troll.
Well most of the "people" hating on it are trolls that targeted the show back when the trailers came out. The issue is that not many of the actual legit review channels, let alone the big ones are watching this show. Likely because they never heard of it or simply weren't that big fans of the original movie.
Exactly. I don't understand all the hatred either. My mom & I watch it every Sunday together. It has become must-see TV for us. We love it. Hope it gets renewed for more seasons & a movie.
yeah, the "mixed reviews" are like ninety nine percent incels and misogynists that are upset that 1: the main romance is between two women, so isn't for them, and 2: a lot of the characters aren't white. you'll hear them poke holes at the story and the writing as if that's why they don't like it, but everyone knows that isn't why. it's a lot of fun, and less serious overall than a lot of fantasy shows that have come out more recently like game of thrones and house of the dragon. it's more like lotr and xena to me. i think both the story arcs and the character arcs have been really well done so far. i think you'll enjoy this show a whole lot more if you watch the 1988 movie, because there's a lot of references you'll miss. you can watch without, but it just gives you a richer experience if you know the backstory. it was one of my favorite movies as a kid.
"you'll hear them poke holes at the story and the writing as if that's why they don't like it, but everyone knows that isn't why." Most of the incels, misogynists, trolls, manbabies, etc already were hating on the series from the trailers and when confirmation came out that the lesbian looking couple in the trailer were indeed lesbians. That was literally all they needed to start their fake review bombs and trying to get this show's audience score down as much as possible.
Alright was looking forward to your reaction of this show as I mentioned on your livestream. Hope you get enough views because you are in for a journey. They have a simple quest, but it leads to ton of world building and character development along the way. BTW to answer something you asked in your reaction, the Hellraiser character you're thinking of is named Pinhead when seeing that monster with the cage over it's head during that castle attack. Also fun fact, that Hellraiser monster and the red head Jade are both from the Star Wars movies, specifically the Han Solo movie. "Hellraiser" is the dude who played Chewbacca while the redhead Jade played Enfys Nest also from the same Star Wars movie. Also don't worry about the "mixed" reviews you've seen because you should definitely know the backstory of those "mixed" reviews. If you're vaguely familiar with the video game the Last of Us 2 and the hate campaign that was attempted on that game. Namely a bunch of manbaby trolls foamed at the mouth and threw temper tantrums when the first teasers and trailers of TLOU2 came out confirming the game is going to have a lesbian lead character and her girlfriend as part of the main cast. This led to said manbaby trolls then launching a campaign to go to every review site and spam it with fake review bombs from their hundreds of troll accounts before the game was even released in hopes it scares away audiences and causes the game to fail. Well guess what? Exact same thing happened to this show. Lucasfilms is already a popular target for clickbait trolls, so the moment it became known this has a lesbian lead and her romantic interest as part of the main cast? Well history just repeated itself.
Most of the stuff I grew up watching was as straight as an uncooked spaghetti noodle. Most of which still hold a special place in my heart. The ship between Madmartigan and Sorsha from the movie being one of them. Love a good romance. But I definitely love and appreciate the wlw representation. So I'll give this a few more eps to decide if I like it.
original movie give a lot of understanding of what's going on yes. while this show might be not on the top of my list, I do like it because of how light-hearted, typical disney/lucasfilm and dorky it is. sometimes we all need to watch something like that just to have fun and good time. and big appreciation for Disney sapphic knight/princess couple. and if you end up not reacting to this series, I hope you watch it on your own for yourself
I started watching before I knew anything about it. Really enjoyed it and ended up watching the old movie afterwards. It really helped having more context.
Hope people are more like you who actually want to form their own opinions by watching it and seeing more of it to be sure. Some will claim to have seen it but have only read the reviews, some have watched 20 minutes of it and already act like they've seen the whole thing, and some went in already with bitterness so they're doing all that they can to convince themselves the show is bad. A lot have even called it a terrible show for being 'woke', solely for having two queer people when they're absolutely not 'educating' anyone, they just simply exist in the show.
It was a movie originally from late 80s, as series now it definitely mixture of LOTR and hobbit + GOT. It’s still good and better of course cause with CGI improved since 80s original 😊 hope u will continue
I definitely would enjoy seeing you react to more episodes. It's a fun fantasy show. Wlw playing wlw, canon. Name another front and center Princess and knight pairing series, I'll wait.
Actually Val had to pull out because he was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2015 and spent the next 2 years fighting it. He's cancer free now, but the cancer plus the surgeries used to get rid of said cancer left his throat severely damaged to the point not only can he barely talk, but also has regular issues breathing and eating. Showrunner Jon Kasdan said in a interview Val's breathing issues came up again, likely from doing the Top Gun sequel, and he had to pull late into pre-production.
@@erickvoshel1 Showrunner Jon Kasdan also said in that interview he's purposely leaving some room in case Val is able to make it for future seasons. Hopefully his throat can recover a bit by then because it sucks to have a time limit on someone to how long they can go without medical treatment.
The original was a movie, I watched it but I don’t remember anything, however I never was a fan so I don’t want to watch it again. I started the series yesterday, maybe I will continue today or tomorrow.
I do think having context from the original movie is helpful in watching the show but I’ve never watched the movie either, I read the wiki page and I think that provided all the context I needed to watch the show and understand the references and plot.
You don't need to watch the 1988 movie to understand the show, but it does help, and it's fun picking up on the references and understanding the history behind things like Kit's sword and Airk's name. It's a fun watch anyway, cheesy in that '80s fantasy way but with some dark elements. The TV show improves week to week, imo, so if you liked episode one you'll probably like the rest. It's not a fantastic show, but it's fun, and Kit and Jade are great (Kit and Elora's dynamic is interesting, too). I've seen some valid criticism online, but a lot of the hate is coming from the usual crowd who review-bomb anything they deem too "woke."

It is a strange show that struggles to find a consistent tone between serious fantasy and irreverent comedy. I find it entertaining enough but it certainly has earned some of the criticism it's getting.
It has the same tone as both the original Star Wars trilogy and the movie Willow. I can even outright start naming scenes from those movies that are clearly meant to be comedic (unless you think things like Val Kilmer dressing up as a woman and a dude feeling apples that he thinks are Val's boobs is meant to be a super serious scene), yet both movie Willow and OT Star Wars can easily shift out of that comedy, campiness feel and go back to being a seriously movie without it being outright distracting and ruin pacing likes say the MCU is well known for being unable to do.
