Baldur's Gate II Redux : Irenicus Dungeon Escape - 3D Cutscene
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 13 сен 2024
- I've designed this scene for the Baldur's Gate 2 Redux team using the Dragon Age toolset. The scene is based on the original cutscene that triggers once you've escaped Irenicus' dungeon in Baldur's Gate 2, and will serve as an opening to BG2R's next installment, "Module 2: Athkatla"
Original scene can be seen here: • Irenicus Being Badass
The scene features art assets created by the incredibly talented members of the BG2R modding team, (see credits below) and all music and Voice overs were taken from the original Baldur's Gate games.
*Please note: During actual gameplay, the player character's physical appearance will be based on the player's own character creation.
**An improved Sound and Music mix will be used in the actual game. (I realized I uploaded the wrong version a bit too late)

I'm so glad you remembered the one thief fleeing.
Jesus never realized that!
I wonder who it was.... Coo
From his voice, he sounds like Gaelan Bayle.
@@Boriskov2 That was maevar
This is fucking insane. Awesome work. Captured the spirit of the scene perfectly.
Thanks!
+Dahlialynn you got to finish the full game
+josue betances then do the throne of bhaal
+7mean7bunny7 they should have boo rip irenicus face off for shits and giggles
+Lord Doomer Imoen is *a* female Bhaalspawn. As are Illasera and Sendai. You have always been able to be either male or female in Baldur's Gate (I've finished this game several times) and the only requirement to a certain stronghold is your class. The only time your character's gender matters is when deciding who to romance. There is nothing sexist going on here, so please don't be so easily offended like some progressives are XD (I am in no way a "progressive", but your information here is wrong.) :)
To this day I come back to see this cinematic from time to time. There's so much tension and it's one of the best depictions of a spell casters fight I've ever seen.
same here
It's fantastic.
this is what a remake should look like, god damn it
@@Umwert hello dahlia
This. Is. INCREDIBLE!!! Wow. First time I've actually gasped at how much love you've thrown into making this. 10 out of 10.
Still holds up and still looks amazing. This prooves that quality cutscenes has very little to do with effects, textures, shaders or trillions of polygons: Its all about timing, clever use of assets and directing. This cutsenes still wipes the floor with much more recent and surely more expensive gaming cutscenes.
Very well said indeed.
I may be greedy but this was made 10 years ago and I wonder what some AI upscaling might do for the quality.
My favorite part of watching this over and over is seeing the 3D "cinematic" liberties taken with an isometric game. Especially that opening scene that was only text in the original made into a visual experience.
This simply is a treat.
Thank you!
I must agree. I love this. It is making me want to play it again but I am currently enveloped in NWN OC currently. Great job!
Now I would just like this for the whole game. haha.
Goddamn I love Irenicus' voice.
@@DahlialynnHello, can I offer you a file with Russian subtitles for this video?
A very subtle but very ominous part of the adaptation.....Irenicus glares towards Imoen before announcing he'll cooperate...he's already planning what to do in Spellhold..
Indeed!
God damn, well done dude that was amazing.
R.I.P David Warner, thank you for the performance of a life-time.
This looks really good, I wonder how far along this- WAIT THIS WAS 10 YEARS AGO!?
The reason why Yoshimo isn't showing is because the Dragon Age Origins engine only supports four people at a time, people.
And then they run down and loot everything immediately.
no they don't, it's just a bunch of useless leather armors and shortswords. Are you really going to waste the time and bag space to get a total of 50 gp or are you going to go into the text where you can get a nice ring that gives you 18 charisma
When I was a kid, we'd have to work for 57 weeks straight in a coal mine to earn 50 gp! Charisma is nice, but I had kids to feed! ...When I was a kid... *cough*
Bezzdor they can get both XD
Alright.... Time to loot the bodies and go rescue Aerie!
Seriously though, I can't believe it's 2020 and I JUST found this video. This is just.... the amount of detail and work put into this one presentation is astounding. 10/10, a true masterpiece for its time, to complement the timeless masterpiece that is the original Baldur's Gate saga.
First of all - insolent Menkar & co
I know I'm late to this party... but this is INCREDIBLE. All the feels, all the voice lines... the visuals paired PERFECTLY with what I imagined when I played this all those years ago... Great work :*)
mages should have died of dismemberment though
Simply amazing work.
The models were fantastic and I loved all the details in it. I loved the soundwork and music clips as well - it could have been easy to mess that up but the game music was integrated flawlessly and worked...it also helped that you included a lot of my favorites from BGII/ToB. :D And most of all, It was all seemly integrated and felt natural.
I'm really interested in seeing more!
Thank you :D Integrating and adjusting the existing music in such a way that it served the visuals was truly a challenge and I appreciate the fact that you took notice and like the final result :)
"This is an unsanctionned use of magical energy..." it's pretty obvious that guy has been training for a long time before delivering that line lol. He thinks he's so good. I bet he smiled with pride after saying it.
greatest RPG of all time?
Actually, no. A close second though.
***** lol, what tactical depth? There is no tactical depth in computer D&D games. The best tactic in any such game is to overwhelm everything with brute force since even highly scripted fights can't come close to a group of custom-built characters unless the enemies outright cheat (which they do, actually, even without mods). There was a slight tactical side if you were doing HoF mode in either IWD game, but ultimately it all boiled down to the same thing: Put up defenses, nuke everything to the nine hells, and then sleep for 8 hours.
Yes, Torment isn't as combat-heavy as the other IE games, but it didn't pretend to be either (the system was simplified for a reason). Combat was there as a resolution to various conflicts and often skippable, including at the last boss. Instead, it focused on the actual role-playing aspect of the game-It's why we're playing an RPG and not an ARPG or a TBS, right?-and great storytelling. The horribly generic FR setting of the BG saga, along with mostly cliche NPCs, and a story that's been rehashed a million times, puts BG series squarely behind Ps:T.
Everyone fondly remembers BG games because for many they were the first good computer RPGs they've played, not to mention that BG2 was the beginning of a trend of romances in RPGs (well, not really, but it's where the first true Bioware romances saw the light of day). Still, looking back objectively, it's easy to see that it's really not all that impressive. There's a reason why Ps:T is selling more copies on GOG than BG2, and it's not just because it's getting a spiritual sequel.
***** You're clearly not a "master" of the game if it takes that much effort to overcome these challenges. Unless you crippled yourself by choosing the worst possible class and companions. Who calls himself a master anyway? I mean seriously, I played through the game several hundred times (mostly as part of playtesting mine or other people's mods) and I don't call myself a master. Hell, I've been playing and DMing D&D for over 20 years, and I still wouldn't call myself a master (although that has more to do with the sheer amount of rulebooks).
And yes, all of those enemies can be taken out by simply overwhelming them. There are so many broken items and spells in the game that it's not really much of a challenge. There's nothing fair about combat in any of the IE games, enemies have flat-out scripted custom spells and abilities that they pull out of thin air, and it's still completely one-sided in the player's favor even when you're playing on Insane or HoF mode. Even Demogorgon himself is a big pushover unless you do Watcher's Keep early. The Twisted Rune is probably the hardest fight in the whole game, but mostly on account of not having HLAs at that point. The only way the game poses any challenge if it's your first playthrough so you don't know what to expect and you don't understand the rules completely (AC, THAC0, saves, and other stuff were pretty funky in AD&D).
Cliche characters? Chosen one protagonist? Check. Power-hungry destruction-bent antagonist? Check. Romancable women with a traumatic past? Check three times. Redeemed evil drow? Check. Token clingy family member? Check. Crazy evil barbarian? Check. Grumpy dwarf? Check. Egomaniacal evil wizard? Check. And those are just a handful of main characters. I mean, the list goes on and on and on. Now, to be fair, there are some very nice and/or well-developed companions, like Minsc (although he the whole gentle giant is pretty cliche as well) or Keldorn or Sarevok (both as a companion and as a decent villain), and Irenicus was definitely a badass. It's not like cliches are a bad thing, you can make absolutely wonderful cliche characters, and generic fantasy is generic simply because it sells (i.e. people generally like it).
The story of Torment isn't the best? What exactly constitutes "the best" story? Because it's definitely the best story among all the D&D computer games. Or, in my personal opinion, among all the computer RPGs in general (so far). Could the story be better? Sure. Art can always be better. There's no such thing as "best" in art, unless you provide a very narrow context.
Role-playing is not "hunting for new spells and new ways to topple your enemies" unless your character's only role is being an automaton that goes around killing stuff. Yes, developing your character's abilities is a part of role playing, but a game without any stats or combat is still just as easily a role playing game. BG series had a lot of roleplaying, but its depth doesn't even come close to Torment, nor does its breadth for that matter.
Also, how was Torment any more linear than BG2? BG1, yeah, sure. BG1 pretty much flung you into the world to do what you wanted with a vague (and largely forgettable) main thread to follow, but BG2 was just as linear as Torment.
I understand that it's not the opinion of many people that BG2 isn't as impressive as they make it out to be, but do understand that it also IS the opinion of many people. Predominantly those who have heard the story and seen the same old characters a million times before and since.
And no, Ps:T is not "riddled" with bugs. If you're gonna exaggerate, please use words that are at least somewhat close to the truth. There are actually very few bugs in the game comparatively (and all IE games have fan-made fixpacks). But even if you were somehow unlucky enough to find three game-breaking bugs (I don't even know how because I've never encountered one), that says nothing about the quality of the game, otherwise modern-day games would rate laughably low simply on that account.
Call of Duty is irrelevant to this discussion, it's not from the same genre or time period. You can't compare it to Skyrim or Dragon Age either. Of course, I agree that general public opinion doesn't amount to shit, but you need to have some metric if you're gonna compare the popularity of a game, and the simple fact is that Torment ranks higher than BG games both on GOG (where you'd expect to find the appropriate crowd) as well as metacritic (by user score).
Finally, there's no real strategy in Dark Souls either. There's the initial difficulty wall and then it's just same repetitive shit right through to the end. If you find both DS and BG2 tactically advanced, I can see how you would enjoy the combat in them. I would also hate to see how you fare in an actual game of D&D.
Hanatash BG and BGII were very tactical. In fact you can test it. Say a Dragon Age or Skyrim player to use your party and beat a dragon or similar boss. They cant. I Have made that test with my nephews. They find them impossible. Brute force is useless. And every boss is different. You cant beat a golem in the same way than an Illithid party. In the other hand, I think BGII is the best CRPG ever and I bash everyone who says something like Skyrim should be the number one, but I would never discuss with someone who thinks Planescape is better. That's a close second for me, and I guess the order for those places is just a matter of taste.
Gerardo Uribe Obviously, Skyrim or Dragon Age can't compare to a D&D game. Their systems are so dumbed down that it's hard to consider them a part of the same genre, at least as far as combat is concerned.
Your little experiment proved nothing though. I saw a nine year old play through the game, dragons and all without any difficulty whatsoever. I didn't even bother explaining the rules to him, I just gave him the facts.
And in fact you CAN beat a golem in the same way you beat a mind flayer party. It's also the same way you beat a dragon, a demilich, or a demon lord. Denial and brute force.
Rest in peace David Warner.
Me as someone that never saw this cutscene but played the original BG2 thanks for doing justice to my childhood!
So I have come here to watch this at least twice a month since 2014... and still love this. Superb job! :)
I thought it wasn't possible to make Baldur's Gate 2 any better, it's a 10/10 game and the best CRPG ever created. Then I saw this video.
I appreciate that :) Thank you!
is that remake still under development?
Dahlialynn Is this going to modded for PC only? Damn this looks good!
what about the video?
Outstanding! I have always loved the character of Jon Irenicus...one of those rare villains that made you respect him, if not like him. Your work of bringing him to life was nothing short of remarkable. Thank you... And well done!
9 yrs ago and I'm NOW seeing this? This was amazing!
if the whole game was remade like this id play it again
oh most definitely!
fuck that, it's fine as it is
@@LMTR14 Of course it is, but i'd even use a microwave as an excuse to play Baldur's Gate 2 again.
Id pAy for it again too.
Wow, I never even knew this was being made. The Irenicus model looks incredibly accurate, and the cutscene direction is very well interpreted too. BG2 was a huge part of my adolescent years (along with the first NWN - the single player story was so bad it pushed me into the online community and using the Toolset, NWScript was my first taste of programming :p)
As such, I'll always remember it well, so it's cool to see it recreated so faithfully here. I'm guessing that the lack of variety in spell effects was a limitation of the Dragon Age engine/assets because it stands at odds with the attention to detail in the rest of the scene. I liked the glance towards Imoen, too - in the original game you don't really have a hint of that until later.
Well, regardless of whether it's on indefinite hiatus, you can at least hold your heads high for having done what you have so far.
Yea and Minsc looks pretty great too
I kinda miss the lvl upp sound when the cutscene ends
I just started bg2 and this has to be the coolest thing I've seen
This is what I want to see from a D&D movie.
Wow this is totally amazing, congrats!!
Minsc was like "yeah, fuck it" at the end
THIS IS TOTALLY AWESOME. I can't believe this. Can see this is a labor of love :) Can't wait to play this!
I don't know how this is even possible but I'm amazed by the quality of your work! Fantastic visual and sound editing... if there will be a Baldur's Gate movie ever to be produced, you should be involved in it!
+Ceyhun Birinci Thank you so much!
you've done a great job! Its good to see people still involved in this project.
Really nice, good job 😁
Thank you! 😄
This was mindblowingly amazing. I don't often bother to favorite videos, but this truly deserves it. Well done!
Best Dimension Doors ever
VERY nice.
The visuals, effects, AND the pacing are all spot on.
Brilliant.
Really good work
xxxriddick Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic. Thanks for uploading.
Incredible! Very well done!! Having watched this I think I might pay someone to remake the whole damn game in this way. lol
Can i just say that thats the best thing ive seen for a while.
Kudos to all involved!
Imoen is so yellow :(
Oh man, that's great. It's really nice, technically and creatively speaking. I like all the small details.
Where's Yoshimo?
CHARNAME didnt trust him.
Seriously, fuck Yoshimo
Wow, I was nerding out to the original scene and came across this. At first I was skeptical seeing the dragon age mod, but youve honored so much of the original feel from the source content. 10/10 great seeing this envisioned from a new stand point. When is Gorion Vs SAREVOK?
Unfortunately the mod is currently in something of a hiatus - there's been little progress (and no, I am not blaming anyone for anything; please do not misunderstand me!) since last year, with most of the modding team having become busy with various other things (I understand that some have actually found work in gaming industry; Beamdog, I believe): currently only one member is able to continue working on it more or less actively. You can read the full story on Baldurs Gate II Redux - Module 1 Irenicus Dungeon page's posts section at Nexus.
What an undeniable shame. Unfortunately if this ever does get finished, many gamers may end up balking at the outdated graphics engine.
HOLY COW, THIS LOOKS AMAZING!!!
This was brilliant
It really captures the nostalgia of Baldurs Gate
And the cinematic angles help too
I really wish this mod could be completed but I do feel the team may have bit of more than they can chew
BG 2 is a huge game
It would be much more feasible to do just a few quests and release them as standalone modules like the first dungeon
The people most passionate about this mod are the ones that have played BG 2 anyway so its not like they are going to spoiled
I personally thought the size of the first dungeon was just right for a downloadable module
Wish we could have more maps like this for DA:O
Absolutely fantastic. Beautiful work.
I...really...just don't have words for how fantastic this is.
An impressive work which transcribes with accuracy the whole intensity of the scene of the original game. Irenicus seems even more charismatic when zooming on his face. Did you make other videos like this ? By the way, could you change Imoen's spell casting from fire to magic missiles and keep Irenicus' fire spell ? This would make a nice contrast between Imoen's average level of magic skills and Irenicus' powerful magic and it would also be even more fitting with the original scene. I know I'm a little picky. Anyway, keep on the good work I can't wait to watch others !
Top notch work here. I enjoyed every moment of it.
So amazing.
But this scene is missing the reason why Irenicus capitulates in the first place. That is to say it is missing the constant reinforcements from the mages who keep teleporting in no matter how many Irenicus kills. In the scene you created he kills a few and they stop teleporting in so it looks like they gave up long before Irenicus agrees to go with them leaving the audience scratching their heads over why Irenicus agrees to turn himself in.
So you need to make a constant influx of mages that never let up and really make the audience believe that Irenicus looks like he could be in danger of actually being overwhelmed.
Bear in mind that Irenicus eventually overthrew Spellhold and used it to continue his experiments, so his surrender held ulterior motives. Notice how he sort of glances at Imoen before the line "You bore me, mageling!" That is the universal body language for "I am concocting an evil scheme."
I dont think actually the fear of being overwhelmed was the motivation to him to capitulate. You forget the arrogance of irenicus, in the real cinematic, he just killed 4 mage, I dont think he has fear of them. I think the reason why he accepted to come with them is because they agreed to take imoen also with them. He take over spellhold while this is the main area of the mages, I dont think if he can defeat them in their fortress, that he fear them in a battlefield.
Arashoon GeorgeMonet is actually right.
What does matter at this time is that devs needs to make players believe that Irenicus seems(!) to be in danger because of constant influx of Mages. Of course, those of us who played the game knew his motivations were different, but you need to make audience (players, in this case) wondering why would he do that :)
I had consulted with the team regarding his seemingly quick surrender, since in the original game he basically annihilates every Mage that teleports in with tremendous ease. In no way was there a suggestion that the Mages were overwhelming him (even though they tried). In fact, Irenicus last line before stopping was "Enough, I haven't the time for this". He decides to end the battle calmly and confidently. While it would be a great idea to convince the audience that he surrenders due to being overwhelmed and without suggestion of an ulterior motive, the original game and text wouldn't allow me to do so sensibly, so in his glance towards Imoen, his surrender had to be shown as calculated yet mysterious.
Perhaps he wanted to study the situation from inside and with Imoen as a close captive, rather than wasting energy and time (and maybe allowing his prisoners to escape) in a battlefield with a flow of wizards still coming in. Thus, while he didn't actually fear to be overwhelmed, he calculated that his situation was annoying and uncomfortable and agreed to be captured. Then, when he realized that the mages in Spellhold were not enough strong, he took control of the asylum.
Thank you so very much!!! Coming from a person with your experience that means a lot! Your comment as well as some of the other wonderful comments posted are very much appreciated!
Where's Yoshimo?!? But this is great
I see this for the first time and Sir that was just PERFECT. I literally had chills ! Your Staging skills are outstanding ! And what really gave me a nerdgasm is the perfect use of the various Soundtracks fitting each second of this cinematic !
Well done sir. There is just one thing i can say : GIVE US MORE !
Thank you so much! (that's maam :P). It really warms my heart to know that specific details like the soundtrack manipulation I laboriously worked on can be appreciated
Was that Robo Cop using magic?
LOL that's what I was thinking too xD
fuckin hilarious lmfao
This is probably the best thing I've seen since the actual BG2! :D I really hop you finnish this project.
Why is Imo that yellow ?
Luther De Gladstone severe jaundice
Brilliantly done.
This was great, I kind of love you. Anyone interested in playing bg2 multiplayer message me.
yes i am
Awesome! Do you play cheats or the like. I occasionally will buff my healer or stat out a human cleric mage just to make a smaller party more competitive.
sometimes cheat and sometimes regulat! it depends on character what character do you favor?
Didnt see your whole message! Yea I sometimes stat up and buff my mage or thief or sometimes fighter
A FANTASTIC adaptation of the scene. It really comes together. The fight is epic and flows well. There are also plenty of subtle touches, like that mage dropping dead as Irenicus just stops the fight, or Irenicus giving that quick glance to Imoen as a plan was forming in his head. Really awesome all around.
A shame this was mod was dropped :(
This video is just fantastic, great job you did a better job than i thought was possible!
As much as I like Jon Irenicus who rivals Sephiroth and Saervok as top villains, I feel that some people over-rates his power. He is very powerful for sure, you can all see if you played BG2 but the very reason why he was exiled and stripped of his elven immortality shows that Eliminister and other Mystra's Chosens are more powerful. I believe what he was trying to do is to obtain the same kind of power as the Chosens illegally. Still, the way his intentions are always blurry until the end while every time he appears, he shows intelligence, warped wisdom, great arrogance and equally great power to back his arrogance is very appealing as a villain at the time this game was released.
well Elminster is THE greatest mage out there so its a bit unfair to compare irenicus to him and say he is not that powerful. And i thought elves in D&D were not inmortal but lived about 800 years or so.
annatar3 Actually Larloch in certain aspects are just as powerful if not even stronger than Elminister even with Silver fire would have a lot of trouble dealing with him. I do admit my comment was more of a response to some Irenicus fanboys trying to elevate their favorite villain to the same status as Elminister and the likes. Elmininster is one of the greatest mage but is not The Greatest there is. Irenicus kinda lost his elven status and would have withered off and died. Then again, the reason why he was punished so was due to his greed to become similar to Elminister with the power of divinity but Larloch is not a Mystra chosen himself and his powers all belong to him or acquired without aid of divines so maybe he is a fairer comparison.
Let's see, Irenicus believes himself to be prepared and everything happens according to plan by his design during the Bhaalspawn's encounter with him...
Larloch IS prepared for any situations, super intelligent genius to react to even situations he is not prepared against, has a heavy arsenal of immerse magical items including like 10 to 12 Ioun stones floating around his skull, oh ya he's one of the oldest existing Lich, since it is said that he heavily modified his body via the Wish Spells and ancient rituals that is most likely unknown to Irenicus which allows Larloch to challenge god-blood beings like Elminister while he is extremely wise as he is super intelligent enough to make peace with Mystra, ackowledging the fact that there is always someone better out there- he is above Irenicus who is simply drown in his arrogance and vengeance. While Elminister's powers greatly diminishes after Spellplague, apparently Larloch succeeded in preserving some of his powers. So all in all, Larloch is stronger than Irenicus in almost every aspect that Irenicus believe himself to be best at.
annatar3 A more statistical comparison of Irenicus and Larloch
Jon Irenicus Human/Exiled Elf, Elven Mage level 29, Not in 2e but clearly has an extended Greater Alacrity ability or spell. Has access to High Level/Epic Spells (HL Spell is 2e, 3e calls it Epic Spell call it w/e you want)
Stats are Str: 13, Dex 18~21, Con: 14, Int: 18, Wis: 18 and Cha: 16 Hp: 96, by 3e standards I think it would sit around
Str: 16~18, dex:22, Con 12~14, Int: 20~22, Wis: 20-22 and Cha: 16. Hp: about 174.
We see Irenicus use the following spells
Disintegrate on a shadow thief that ran into your cell room.
Flesh to Stone+Flame arrow combo on a Shadow Thief on Promenade. The rest exploded and it was not explained so either it was rapture of fathers or Wail of Banshee. It is said in game near the final battle in Suldenessellar that the nature of his magic is Corruption magic that originated from Rakshasa. It is unclear whether he was using Elven Magic in Promenade or Rakshasa magic but most likely he was using Rakshasa magic since he was stripped of his elven status.
He also knows Time Stop and Meteor Swarm for sure, Abi-Dalzim Horrid Wilting against me, summoning of Demons in Hell, Irenicus is very powerful, he knows it, he thinks he is far more powerful than he actually is, from his spell fighting style, he probably feel himself above casting level 2 and below spells since the lowest level he was ever seen using was Flame Arrow. He has Greater Alacrity for sure, very decisive and capable of making full use of all the spells he casts with ruthless efficiency saw lots of exploding corpses. He doesn't seem to carry a lot of counter buffs types like dispel, breach etc... Very smart, wise and cunning can deal with situations decent but can still be surprised evidence by Protagonist's unleashing a horde of mad wizards and was forced to run away.
Larloch human male Lich, wizard 20/ epic 12, Str 18, Dex 24, Con 10, Int 34, Wis 24, Cha 16. Hp: 134.
One of the oldest Lich dating back to Netheril, he is believed to know all or at least nearly all arcane spells. Most likely even those that Irenicus does not know of. Apparently more heavily equipped with very powerful gear. Two dozens of very powerful Ioun stones floating around his skull ahem. Specialty is preparing himself for any situation and even surprising scenario. Usually carries a balanced of offensive, defensive and utility type spells. Known to abuse his overwhelming advantage with Still, Delayed and Quicken, spell fighting style involves overwhelming with an endless barrage of spells till enemy dies or yield. Known to not be above using cheap spells like Magic Missiles and Web so he is not limited to show off his power by commonly using level 4 or higher spells but rather uses magic most effectively/efficiently according to situation.
He got quickened timestop, quickened teleport, quickened wail of banshee- remember Irenicus doesn't have a quickened Wail, his spells are mostly eschewed thus no need componnent, enforced by Still Spell, Delayed spell, His resistance against cold, electric, mind affecting spells, polymorph And 1 spell from each level presumably up to 9.
He also has magic missile, web, dispel magic, arcane eye, animate dead, chain lightning, control undead, devastate undead, and energy drain as spell-like special abilities.
I think the difference is obvious between Larloch and Irenicus. Personally I think the only thing Irenicus has over Larloch is more hp to let Larloch punish.
annatar3 Also in D&D settings Elves are indeed not immortal but lives to level 700-800 years old. But in BG2 it was mention in plot that Elves of Suldanessellar are at least immortal. Irenicus and bodhi lost their elven immortality as a form of punishment for their greed. I believe the immortality here means they just don't age and die but still can be killed.
This is professional work. You are doing more then anyone expect I think. Thank you for this incredible video..
dafuq is yoshimo
I laughed so hard at this.
Seriously. Even if you don't keep him in your party, he's still very relevant to the story. Unacceptable!
Pay attention, you get no second chances.
Terrible, it shows the problems with Dragon Age. I mean, him casting that spell looked like nothing. Plus, I'm assuming magic is still the same as in Dragonage? As in, fucking terribly designed?
I mean, in the original, he slaughters them all in 5 seconds. And on a mage, that actually meant something back then. Mages are super strong in Baldur's Gate, but were limited in both speed and their level. Seeing a mage that is powerful didn't mean a guy that was 20% more powerful then an elite warrior, it meant he was a proverbial god, and you'd need a powerful team of elite warriors and mages to take the bastard.
It's funny how my sorcerer, wildmage, fighter/thief, ranger/cleric and Blade soloed him and he downed as easily as any other weak ass grunt mage lol.
Zerthos Roam Impressive, considering the insane rate he casts spells, he is almost impossible to take down without assistance.
Rainbow Dashtruction Try playing again, you will find Irenicus in fact easiest amongst all bosses to take down in terms of boss gameplay whether it was the Elves' tree or the Hell battle. He is only as overwhelming as a proverbial god because you allowed the impression of him to be.
To be honest, Irenicus' casting speed isn't that fast even on Promenade battle. On the Promenade battle his casting speed is pretty much same as every other mage you can find, he just seems to have an extended Greater Alacrity buff on him to let him cast one spell after another to make him seem so overwhelming. Even without TOB, he could be beaten with just 2m+ xp under your belt.
With TOB installed, I was pretty much overwhelming him with Time Stops, Wishes, Simulacrums, Project Images and Greater Alacrities. In fact anyone can try that as long as you can install a copy of BG series in your comp. Trust me, you'll find Jon Irenicus the easiest boss if you have TOB installed and in just SOA content alone, he would be just slightly more troublesome than Sarevok because of mage buffs and threats of his time stops.
I replayed the Promenade battle, watched carefully because in that battle he used Flame Arrow. I pretty much glued my eyes to the screen to time his flame arrow casting speed. It's the same as us, the only thing different is his casting animation.
Rainbow Dashtruction Also Irenicus is nowhere near proverbial god, I dare say my Sorcerer at the end of TOB would be like a proverbial god to the combined forces of Sarevok in BG1 and Irenicus even at level 26 (Irenicus is level 29 btw) instead.
Zerthos Roam It actually make sense we can surpass him completely by level 23-25 even though he is still around 4-6 levels higher than you when he died. We were given insights to his personality before he became Irenicus by his former lover who is something like a child of bhaal like you but of a different deity source.
She mentioned and hinted two things. Before Joneleth became Jon Irenicus, he was as powerful as any elven mage can be without any connection to divinity which means with pure skills he probably outclasses his ex and the protagonist if you are a mage, but due to your heritage both his lover and yourself CAN become stronger than him but you weren't there yet during Suldenessellar battle. Irenicus used to command great respect and have a drop dead gorgeous of an elven girlfriend who happens to be the Elven Queen as well.
2nd thing: He seem to have nothing to worry about and would have a happy life with his gal. But The 1st point show us a crucial thing. Joneleth was already at the pinnacle of what a non-divine elven mage can be... he reached his limits and must have secretly desired more power. Bodhi his sister was the more greedy one, she was the one who cited him to betray the elves. So he must have been a doting elder bro plus secretly desires more power.
Thus when he was stripped of everything that was elven from the curse, he very well would have lost all his elven arcane powers that's why the Elven General said Irenicus' powers stems from Rakshasa because he needed power to do what he intended. You take away a level 29 Elven wizard's powers, he switch to using Rakshasa magic, he will still be a colossal badass then he stole the protagonist's divine soul
But apparently he didn't take all of your divinity because in hell, he was actually easier for me even with the demons.
That was utterly fantastic! Wow you have much to be proud of here.
“Quickly, I must speak with you.”
Jon Irenicus: Wrong game. Neverwinter is two doors down to your left.
Sigh...
This is AMAZING. I officially encourage you to do the dream sequences!
Amzing. I consider myself as a very big fan of the BG series and this is awesome. Well done!
That was really good work man. Keep it up!
This is absolutely awesomesauce. I can't stop watching it over and over again O.o

You guys have done fantastic work! I was skeptical at first but you have impressed me! I'm sharing this with people I know!
Wow. When i was playing BG2 this scene gave me chills, now after all those years i'm getting the same chills tha thanks to you.
This is so beautiful, the special effects, Irenicus looks so menacing and the voice lines are 0fectly in sync, whose ver made this masterpiece has my undying gratitude.
Holy smokes dude! this was like visiting a childhood memory, yet in much more detail. Very well done!!
This is disgustingly exceptional. Bravo!
OH MY GOD!! I've been waiting for someone to do this! Thank you!
Woooww!!!! Incredible work, man.
You got me hooked all the way. Congrats!!!!
Seriously... You. Are. A. God.
This is frakking brilliant. Words cannot describe how awesome this is.
Absolutely fantastic work!
Thanks for the kind words! :) Hoping to revamp his model a bit before we release the mod--time permitting, there are quite a few changes and improvements I'd like to make to his model.
Very well done! I especially liked how Irenicus killed everyone with a different magic: ice, fire, poison, petrify, etc. It was nice to see different effects. Also, when the sergeant turns to run it looks like Irenicus casts a fireball. One of the best portrayals of a fireball I've ever seen!
Awesome !!!! Unbelievable....perfect .....I miss so much BG2, hope this work in progress go ahead
My gosh! That fight was my fav scene in the BG II, thx u guys to see now it again in the younger body XD
The character Irenicus will go down as one of the greatest game characters of all time, and virtually every character every voice acting performance in this masterpiece was ace.
You've made awesome job guys keep it up, it look really awesome and solid!
Fantastic work, gang. I'm really looking forward to module two.
I love how Minsc just got this happy shit eating grin on his face like “yup, about start great adventure” when basically all Minsc does is yell angerly about evil and cracking skulls, and bunch evil shit just went down.
Alot effort went into this but the stock dragon age animations really stand out there.
This is really, really good! Seeing this also reaffirms why I think BG could easily be adapted into a tv series or films.
Thank you! When playing the Baldur's Gate 2 Redux mod (once module 2 is released), this scene will only show the characters you've chosen to have in your party :)
This is an unsanctioned use of magical energy!
This is amazing. My hat is off to you sirs. A job very well done. This is what the enhanced edition should have been like.
So badass. And really well choreographed too.
no shit, i was hoping to see something like this for 10 years! well done guys!!!
I shudder to think at the sheer amount of work that must have went into this project
Omg! Thank you so much!! Baldur's gate 2 is my favorite game ever! You make me want to play what you made so much! Realy, thank you! For all of the baldur's gate fans! :D
