    There are basically two generations of Armored Core: The boost hop generation, and the quick boost generation. They're both great in their own way, but everyone has a favorite. Usually dependent on which game they started into the series on.
    I started with Master of Arena, so I will always have that nostalgia for the bunny hops. Which is why I like reverse joint legs in AC6 so much. Quick boosting along the ground feels very similar to the way boost hopping used to work. Which is just one of the many amazing ways From managed to bring pieces of all the old games together in AC6.

    Another point as of why bunny boosting was used back in the older gens, is because once you stop boosting, you completely stop for a full second, unless you tap again the boot button, essentially bunny boosting. So it is used not only to move with better energy usage, but also to avoid having to stop every time you boost

    • @o-shawnspecific80
      @o-shawnspecific80 Год назад +5

      Exactly. You used the boosters to counter the delay from a hard landing. Made it so if you knew what you were doing you really didn't have to worry about the stability stat on your legs.

  • @tallynnyntyg6008
    @tallynnyntyg6008 Год назад +9

    One of the best reasons to boost hop, however, is to charge your energy bar, while also not losing the momentum from just letting up on the booster. Even if you don't continue after landing, you still retain a continual movement, rather than just stopping still.

      On the other hand, Last Raven actually has more animation weirdness, wherein you can push your left analog stick (in dual-stick mode) forward not 100%, and the AC will casually walk like it's a BattleMech.

    I love the Hoverlegs.
    Hoverlegs are sluggish in the air, and them automatically gently landing causes a delay when you want to dash after being in the air...but in exchange, they can dash very quickly across the ground AND DEEP WATER.
    And while dashing, if you tap the Boost button just right, not fast enough to go from dashing to flying, the tap rate just slower then that, will let you dash more efficiently, using less energy, producing less heat, and you can change directions dramatically. Especially with Hoverlegs that have great braking ability.
    Non-tank legs have the Bunnyhop technique.
    Hoverlegs have this tap-dash technique.
    Practice zigzaging with your dashes in random directions. Move like you're teleporting around in short distances, like that movie Jumper, or Nightcrawler from X-Men.

    • @observingrogue7652

    I will note that in 4th gen, effective RJ usage is very similar to bunny-hopping, as you QB along the ground, jump while at speed, qb in air as needed, then qb again just before touching down and jumping again. It's much more technical and timing reliant, but the principle is the same. It's a energy conservation and evasiveness rhythm, though it is not required by any other build the way that reverse joint builds do.

  • @o-shawnspecific80

      @somechinesedude5466 Год назад +1

      @@tilting_cat3344you can only jump when your AC leg touch a land
      You can land without moving to make it more frequent, but that also turn boost off & cause your land to have pause, so you need to count how long do you glide depending on "jumping height" status
      The utility in AC6 is, jumping causes enemy FCS to predict you again, about 0.1s before they finalize the lock again
      this basically causes missile to focus on the area where your jump started & cause low fire spec arms or out of range FCS to refocus
      Nutshell : burst movement (QB, jump, AB side strafe & descending) causes FCS to refocus & messed enemy accuracy
      don't just move in 1 direction at the same speed & expect enemy weapon to not catch, it will

Even the heavy weight reverse legs put lightweight biped legs to SHAME. Its really weird how much of a difference it makes. The difference in lateral speed is not even close i couldnt believe it. Instant subscription. Got... pretty bored of AC6 pretty fast. Played AC1~4 as they released when I was a kid, and properly beat AC1 maybe... 3 or 4 years ago? But I'm playing through all the oldgen games again now. Got linked this vid from the AC Discord. Will watch any and all addtl. AC Tech videos you post

      I should say: I am loving AC6. I _love_ AC6 I really do. But the mission structure/pacing did, eventually, have me booting up AC1 instead of it

    "armored core is complex enough without niche movement mechanics" he says about the generation that has chainboosting lmao

      It's a bgm from AC4 called "Fall"
      Thought the tone (and name) were appropriate.

    I never understood why they decided that boost hopping had to be the main method of efficient traversal. They could have balanced boost properly so that you didn't have to do something as absurd as bunny hopping just to get around properly. I'm glad future games scrubbed that altogether, it was bizarre. The worst part was when seeing AI ACs actually bunny hopping just to keep up... like they went through the effort of coding that in, instead of just fixing it from the get go! Haha, you must have gotten some odd stockholm syndrome to have fallen in love with such an awkward mechanic. XD Though I do suppose it is quintessentially classic Armored Core at this point.
