I tune my 8-string to EAEADGBE to get a lower octave of the 5th and 6th string, and it lets me be lazy by not having to learn new positions for scales 😅
I check in on your channel occasionally and Im glad I did today. I wish you showed more of the clean playing because the low notes were really nice with what you do with the chimey clean tones. Please do more with this guitar. It works really well with your style of playing.
That thing is a tone monster! Congrats brother! I have a crazy Thanos in the works myself that should be finishing any week now and I'm very excited to see how it turns out! 1pc roasted ash body 7A zebrawood top 3pc maple roasted stripe neck 7A pale moon ebony fingerboard Non rounded body edges Gloss top/ rawtone back and sides Yellow to red fade/ rear natural clear Gold frets and pickup poles Ferrari red painted pickups Red moon inlay Will definitely post pics when it's done!
It's quite insane how those Tosin Fishman's sound with the PolyChrome DSP plugin! I may have to get a set. Beautiful specs Thomas and I can see you coming up with some really original tunes on that thing! Cheers!
Thanks Mike! Yeah there was only one choice in that I had in mind when I was building this guy on the live stream, and that was the Tosin set. I used to use the 6 string sets a lot and they were also great.
The guitar sounds amazingly good, and it didn't seem like you were having any trouble playing it. Looking forward to a deep dive video after you've had more time playing it. Thanks
Two reasons, one this guitar will be for riffs and I couldn’t fancy messing around tuning an 8 with a trem, even though the stability in their new multi scale trem is very good! But also, you couldn’t fit that trem and these pickups in the same guitar, I’d have to have went passive which I didn’t want in this case.
Tuning wise just keep extending standard down. It makes it easy to extend your runs down since the scale patterns are more familiar. F♯, B, E, A, D, G, B, E is fine or a whole step down can also work great 😃👍🏻. It's so beautiful too btw!! Another tip is to bear in mind lots of tones aren't mixed with the extra strings in mind so might need fiddling with. 😅
Thanks! Yeah, I’m surprised by how well a lot of the PolyChrome DSP tones sound so well initially, but I’ll definitely create some specifically for extended range guitars and include them in the next release (Which will be an epic update!)
California Brian here! I'm so surprised to hear how tight the low end stays! I would expect the lowest string to just flop around based on the mechanics of it, but nope. Kiesel nails it again. Great to finally see it in the flesh after so long. It definitely didn't make it by Monday, did it?
@@McRocklin in the middle of deconstruction. Won't be done with the journey adventure until just into October. I'll surely check in once I'm back on grid. Cheers!
Hi! Cool video! Question: I noticed you only have a volume knob on that guitar, and most of the fluence pick ups I see, seem to utilize the volume and tone knobs with push and pull options. My Legator guitar only has a volume knob, and up until now I thought I would have to get something drilled into it to get these pick ups. Do you not have that switching option (where it sounds passive or active) or lose some options? Thanks!
wow, the 8 string is here at last! You are a brave man Thomas, I think the most I could handle is a 7 string. I actually been thinking about getting either a Kiesel or schecter 7 string just to have something different , looking forward to the video, and hopefully a live stream on RUclips real soon 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🎶🎸
@@McRocklin that’s awesome can’t wait for the next live stream, I’ve been having shred club withdrawals lol. Also, now we have matching guitars since I also have a Thanos but the six string version obviously.
I recommend Rob Scallons 8-string tuning! FCFACGCE. It's basically an Open Fmaj9 chord, but I can already imagine getting some etherial opening tuning chords with electronic synth lines. I find open tuninings a great way to get familiar with unfamilair territory. Cheers!
I'm curious if the upper horn of the thanos gets in the way when you have it strapped while standing. I wear my guitars very high up. I wonder if that would be a problem with the thanos
I only started learning how to play guitar about a little over a month ago & I'm documenting my entire journey on here so watching this was super interesting to watch! I'm so new even my friendly acoustic scares me 😂
That sounds insane I don’t think I could get used to a headless guitar I’d like to try one at some point but I’ve never seen one at a store to try out great video(s) go kiesel
design wise it looks amazing. sound wise, 7 strings is as low as I prefer before the sounds get too washed for any type of lead or melodic lines but maybe some fat chords would be nice.
20 year player never left the amp ,cab, pedal board set up....what would you recommend for some one wanting to dip their toes into the digital world...interface,daws,? I'm a noob with non analog devices....hell I use ADATs to record so that's the extent of my knowledge....stuck in thrash and death metal ...please help me understand Mr. McRocklin...
Hey, it’s actually very easy these days. Presuming you have a computer from the last three or four years or thereabouts, you simply need an audio interface for your guitar to plug into (Focusrite Scarlett/ Presonus Audiobox etc) a pair of headphones or some studio speakers, and finally PolyChrome DSP for your tones. That’s it, you’re good to go! Feel free to jump on www.mcrocklin.com/discord where we have lots of other new users, myself and the team to answer any questions that you might have 👍🏻
lol those low strings sound absolutely "disgusting" in a good way. Does the wide fretboard for an 8 string feel as awkward as the string spacing you're used to? I would also think the combination of both would make this monster absolutely unplayable for me until getting used to. It does overall look insanely beautiful though. Good luck with all that!
First several seconds of shred was very original and excellent! That horn is wack. Tell the truth, your hand and fingers are burning? Or the string closeness helps out? Great machine for building backing tracks! Oh yeah, where are you getting these 5 way super switches? And like mere mortals, you have to order those PU’s from Fishman and send to Kiesel?
Hey! Because they’re used in my signature kiesel, I just ask Kiesel to sneak one from them hehe. Fishman send the pickups direct to Kiesel for me, I forgot to mention this guitar also had a Fishman USB charger.
Wow! You realize they don’t do that for random nobodies.. called back on your email about the Hutch spec Osiris, Keith said he didn’t know who you sent it to, he said it’s a small shop, he’d ask around and get back to me….still waiting for that.. 😂. Anyway, I have a good spec plan and moving forward towards the whole ball of wax. Laptop, interface, shred machine, dsp, school, etc .. I’ll get there
a good song for 8-string is also Currents song Better Days - you have seen me do that a bit with my LTD.. yours would not doubt sound sick.. Another s Apnea and I think Tremor is also 8 string.
Yeah it’s such a cool guitar and colour there’s a part me that say go with what I mainly play. BUT… I have a ton of six strings and also, this is for that heavy new project that I wanna start soon. Thanks!
You are an absolute amazing player!! BUT, every time I watch your videos, I catch myself fast forwarding through your playing. Unfortunately, to my ears, the amount of reverb is very unpleasant. 🤘✌️ #muchrespect
What do you think of the new BEAST!?
All my tones in one easy plugin www.polychromedsp.com
Can you play some Wes style octave slides on the multi? Also curious what the octave’s sound like with all the distortion
I will do yeah!
Cleans are so DEEEP with these extra-low strings..✨
