- FIRST LOOK: The all new Canyon is here and the Denali is the luxury trim for GMC's midsize truck. The Nissan Frontier, Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. On the outside you will find all new sheet metal, 20in wheels and fixed running boards. On the inside you will be greeted by a 2-tone interior, 6in HUD and 11.3in infotainment screen. The prices on these sub full size trucks is just ridiculous lol. You can be sure that these will be near $55k with destination. For a 4 cylinder truck. Crazy.

You are wrong. 310 horses. 430 lb Ft of torque . Outperforms the v6 and same as 5.7 v8 at 3500 rpm. Watch the video of the gmc engineer…
Who cares about the engine. The freaking price is insane and you'd be a moron to pay that.
Yeah even the mpgs are similar to the big motor so what's the point? GM requested it and they delivered.
I think the fender trim should be painted the same color as the rest of the truck,especially on the Denali.

I wasn’t really sure about how they made the design of it look but I’m honestly liking it more and more vs the last looking model. Now I think this is a well designed look and nice details with it.

I think people give chrome a bad rep because it was so popular before and got played out. It looks sharp when not overdone and makes the cars ‘ pop ‘

I have a 2021 GMC Canyon Denali. It's a nice truck but the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali blows it out of the water. This moved back to #1 on my list to replace my 2021 Canyon Denali lease after the great review by you and Steven assuming GMC will incentivize the lease as they did on my 2021. Thank you both for the great review. I have been waiting for this one for a hot minute. You made my evening and will be tuned in on May 5th for the on-throttle review.
Love how they incorporated that good sized (proper) infotainment center so nicely into the dash. I would buy the truck just for these outstanding design choices.
I am with you, the exterior should have all been one color (above the wheels).
It doesn't bother me though that they didn't chrome the front tow parts.

This truck especially in the Denali trim should have full LED Taillights. At this price point they should be standard.
Yea I like how Toyota went all out giving their new luxury Taco trim full time 4x4, adjustable shocks, and electric running boards.
GM is like here’s a chrome running board for your Denali that cost the same as the Ranger Raptor.💀
Joe, I enjoy your reviews but one thing you never mention is payload capacity (i.e. yellow sticker in the driver's door jamb). I know payload is unique to each vehicle, but it would be interesting to know the payload of the vehicle you're reviewing. Thanks

I think the running boards should be power, or I'd just take them off. No reason the antenna isn't just a shark fin. The Taco might, might be, more reliable....but they feel cheap. I like this.
I rented a Colorado a few years back and I really enjoyed it. I've been seriously considering a Canyon Denali as my next daily since they announced the redesign and it sounds like it's checking all my boxes. Looking forward to the driving review!

I have a 2019 Canyon Denali and it has been nothing but problems after 45,000 miles: Blown heater core including replacing front carpets, two significant electrical issues, failed fuel system control module, failed active shutters in grill and most recently a failed thermostat and/or coolant temperature censor. I get thermostats fail but the other stuff was very premature.
I was just in Asheville this weekend, I just missed spotting JOE and this launch!

Ordered a Elevation AWD with the Sand paint upgrade looking at 41k and change trading in a 2022 Buick Envision St trim will lose a couple grand but at least it eats up the tax. I really hope I wont be disappointed for not adding in some of the upgrades or options.
A great review from Joe. HOWEVER, I had a horrible ownership experience with my 2023 GMC Canyon Denali. My truck had WRONG suspension parts in the front right installed from factory, including the steering knuckle, the brake lines, the ABS sensor, and etc (they basically put some base trim non lifted Colorado parts into this Denali, which caused the vehicle to tilt and it was out of alignment). The truck also has software issues, where the infotainment system dies very often. The G force indicator on my truck also does not work. Squeaking sounds occur when driving at highway speed...Despite the severity of the defects, GMC Canada refused to offer any kind of compensations at this point. I am extremely disappointed by GM's quality control and customer service. I am pretty sure I will steer away from GM's vehicles in the future.
You should have sued them for negligence. The wrong parts is enough proof of their idiocy and laziness.

you are knowledgeable AND easy/fun to watch back seat question,,,,, does the seat fold up? and/or the backrest fold down flat?
Will they do the Denali Ultimate trim like they have on the Yukon? I like the darker chrome and interior leather that has and would want that on this truck as well.
I know when they started putting turbo 4 cylinders into cars and replacing the V6's the idea was "V6 power, 4 cylinder fuel economy" but for a truck application where the shear weight of the vehicle means the 4 cylinder is almost always going to require the turbos to be spinning, it doesn't make much sense. Sure, more torque but the fuel mileage is actually a lot less than my 2021 V6 and the 4 cylinder turbo will be far worse once it is actually under truck like loads with towing and loading the box up.
And you can talk until you're blue in the face and I'm not going to believe a Turbo 4 banger will have the reliability or longevity of a similarly powered V6.
I know they put a lot of work into that 2.7, I just think at least half of the truck folks, the real truck folks at least, would have chosen last year's V6 had that option remained.
I know I was very excited for the redesign until I heard the V6 was gone. Now I feel I should stick with what I have as it will probably be the better choice for the long haul. They've essentially eliminated a reason for me to trade.
She sure is pretty though, I'll give it that. Even if it sounds like a sewing machine.

It's been in the Silverado for 5 years and been working fine.
I really like the looks and features of the AT4 trim, but new vehicles of any type really seem to be a luxury item at this point in time. Maybe in the future! Great vid Mr. Raiti!

Question why is the full size version of the truck which is not that larger $30k more. $80k for the full size crew cab Denali. Prices on all vehicles have gone up so much sonce 2019. Nice truck and good video/info as always.
Excellent review, I own a 2016 model All Terrain trim, and love it…nice truck but the new sticker price is $25k more than what I paid…will keep mine for a while

I recently bought a 2023 Colorado Z71 and mine has a Chevy black exhaust tip 😊. I think the colorado Z71 with the new redesign is perfect. Tacoma killer for sure.
Great review, I think with this one and any new pick truck you should mention the rear suspension, leaf? Spring? Independent? Now I have to look for another source to find out.

Agreed, the Denali is sexy and looks quick off the line with the 430 lbft torque. My ZR2 build date is mid May as well, desert sand this time👍🏻
Waiting delivery don't really like the wheels with thw Diamond cuts looks great bit in time will be tuff to keep clean.

Black Chrome on grill, padded dash and doors would have really helped make it a home run. Now I am afraid it gets thrown out on its way to third.
Would you recommend the Canyon if I wanna tow a bass boat that, with trailer, weighs about 3000lbs? Or get a bigger truck?

The truck is gorgeous and that's coming from a '22 Frontier Pro-X owner. The engine is a zonk. Trucks are big and loud. Yeah you can argue the power is good but the sound isn't.

Great truck, but I prefer the Colorado. I would go Denali only for the full size segment.
MPG of 20 city -26 hwy not close to accurate. Just went to dealer and had him show me the window sticker. 17 city 21 Hwy 19 combined
Thats horrible for a 4 cyl. My 07 tahoe 5.3 gets that.
Nice looking truck. Starting price over 50K and they couldn't put in a power rear window, pretty short sighted.

I like the chrome front with the red GMC I think I like to of had the ruffles in red tho a little fleck yes I would of keep it the colour of the body the same as well. Electric running boards would have been nice. I would even pay extra for them.
One thing he was wrong on is there no cameras underneath the truck the Denali version of that truck it's just on the At4x you can maybe order it on the AT4

I love this interior. With the high output 2.7 turbo, i would think they're running some higher compression with direct injection. Does this require premium fuel?

You got the MPGs for this trim wrong, it's 17 city/21 Hwy / 19 combined
Good luck getting those numbers. I viewed a “real world driving” video of a ‘23 Canyon and he got 14 city & 19 hwy.
