    Each time I prepare to set up a new notebook, I like to come back and watch the original BUJO method videos. I find it really refreshing and helps me 'reset' and remind myself of the original intent of the system.

    I started my bullet journal in 2018, one notebook lasted until 2022... it's not a complain, it became a precious treasure record of my life, it worked because I was able to carry it everywhere and it was concise enough to have all the essential info I needed *at my fingertips*. It's Nov 2023, I tried going back to a conventional to-do list and planner only to find myself mentally exhausted and scattered because I didn't have the motivation to write anything down. And here I am now , going back to these videos and setting up a new notebook 45 days before the new year because I can't wait to feel focused again...

    I learn many life lessons from this video. Such a coincidence, I'm having hard time since last year December till now due to my Mom's health ; I have so many pop-up ideas and suggestions from Google searching and colleagues, eventually I forgot some of these when I try to recall back ! I even forgot how's my feeling back then, sometimes my heart feel empty, doesn't feel pain anymore. When I'm finding tips for my productivity, I found Bullet Journal ! I dislike Planner Book, because printed date make me frustrated. I want to do a log + short diary + To-Buy-List + Plan-to-Buy List + To-Do-List + Plan-To-Do-List+ Info + Quotes in just 1 book, but doesn't know how to start, how to do it in proper way without messy, 'cause I'm the only daughter in my family, I have huge responsibilities in my shoulders.
    I'm happy when I found out Bullet Journal, it's convenient for me, simple way to jot down all my minds inside a book ! If I want my book have some color, I just draw Title with highlighters , drawing some rectangle or square surrounding Title ~ Once again, thank you, Ryder.
    😊

    I started the bullet journal in September 2016, and haven't looked back. I genuinely don't know what I'd do without mine. I use it daily, mainly by always making sure I keep it simple, and just embracing whatever mistakes I make along the way. The end of this year will mark my 1st full year with the bullet journal, and you'll actually be surprised by how attached you get to it. It has seen me through all my highs and lows, as I'm sure it will continue to do in the future.
    Most importantly, the bullet journal has allowed me to measure how far I'm veering from my version of a consistent, happy life, and always gently guides me back on track. I absolutely love it, and hope to continue with it forever more. Thank you so much, Ryder :) Happy New Year! x

    2018 was my first year at bullet journaling. Thank you for the information on migrating journals; when to do it, what to consider, how to move forward and what to bring with you - what works, what doesn’t and why? I look forward to a new year of life experiences and learning. Thank you for sharing you journey and your knowledge.

    Just a note, that's already probably been said in one of the other 131 comments, many of us don't worry what day it is when we migrate out the journal. There are lots of reasons to migrate - - you're out of pages, it's a new school year, new baby, new job, you like a cover better...

I believe this is the missing link to help heal my scattered brain with endless to-do lists, thoughts, worries, etc. It seems there are so many rabbit holes to go down and so many things to learn.

    I am going to need this by next month as my current BuJo has room for November and no more. I also realized that I am NOT using it to it's full potential as I have from Aug 2017- now in there. I think I need to make some modifications on how I set things up... I'll be re-watching this video a couple times to really grasp some of those details. I know you just do it automatically now- but I'm still figuring it out. I'm ADHD so the BuJo is PERFECT for me- I mentioned in another comment that this is the longest I've ever used a particular planning system- over 1 year now. I have never been able to make it past July in any other system- and I have tried them all. Too much space. Too little space. and the BuJo is JUST RIGHT!

    I like the continuity of keeping the same BJ even if I'm in two different years. I put a piece of design paper to separate and set-up my new year after that. If the index is full, I would start with that (it's not but I'm thinking just in case). I like the 4 questions to ask when we finish a year; doesn't matter if the year is full or not; we still had a chance to check if things are working out. TFS, Nicole

    Is it better to have a ring binder bullet journal so that we can add more pages or take out the ones you don't require and store it ?

    • @bulletjournal
      @bulletjournal  Год назад

      it would be "better" or "worse" to to speak, there are pros and cons of those formats. The benefit of having everything in a bound notebook would be that it forces you to make decisions about what you keep or let go as you finish each notebook. Copying things over requires you to refine it to better suit you in the current. Adding pages can definitely be a plus depending on how you log... it certainly isn't a clear cut answer!

    I'm excited , I've asked "Santa' to get me a journal for Christmas.... if I've been a naughty boy, then I still have a week to get one for myself. I honestly can't remember how I stumbled across the subject of bullet journaling, but glad I have. I've been looking at this for about 2 weeks now. I guess I sort of already do it in a way.... I take a piece of cardstock an put a list of task I need to complete on any given day and it sits on my desk here at work. As a man, it's nice to see a guys take on BuJu. Don't get me wrong, I love the creative side of the ladies, and I've taken lots of good notes, but it's good to see a guys perspective. Thank-you Ryderr.

    I start a new journal, when my current one is full. And I put a future log for the next year at the end of every journal, so I can fluently plan in the end of a year/journal. Makes sense? :D
    I love to come back to old notebooks (I've been journaling since I was 10) to reflect and understand where I've been, so I can focus on now while planning for later..

    QUESTIONS:
    Could you make a video about how you track your habits simply? Also how do you attack & get done with a collection (supposing that you collection is about "books to read" or something similar)... is it about migrating items from a collection list to the daily or monthly task? I just discovered this method. Thanks for answering

    If a journal is half filled (or less) I want to put another year into the same one. How do you handle Future Log for a second year when it can't go in the front, easily findable like the first?
    One suggestion could be to put it at the back of the book. Sometimes I flip the book upside down to fill in pages. But I continue the main timeline just as before on the upright portion of the book. The back of the book is good for reference stuff though, like phone numbers of friends, expanded index if needed, or more future logs.

I do have a question about the extra keys you seem to use in you BuJo, see 8:20 in this video. There you use the squared bracket system and also some letters in front of some comments. So, no matter how sad, embarrassing or frustrating experience may have been, it can either own you or you can own it. You can't undo an experience but you can learn from it. I started using bujo last month and I found myself already in the last pages of my first one (it’s the best journal). I write a lot ideas, journal and thoughts in it. Doing the math it seems like I will be using 7~8 bujos in a year.
    Is that a lot? Or are there are other people who use as much? If this is the case, do I have to be migrating my index, future log and monthly log everytime I get a new one?

    Hi,I recently began noticing the Bullet Journal,and gradually applied it to my diary.This is really a simple and powerful system.However,Taiwan in which I lives at doesn't have any bookstore is available to Leuchtturm1917 A5 dotted.Even if Amazon has to sell;however,as a student it is very difficult for me to shop online by myself.Fortunately,MUJI has sell A5 dotted notebooks,and I did buy it.I planed to use it at the next year.But this one still has the differences with Leuchtturm1917,such as page number.Maybe I have to tag every page personally?

    • @barbarawest1205
      @barbarawest1205 7 лет назад +1

      Yes. I would recommend setting up a few pages at the beginning for an Index or Table of Contents. Then start numbering your pages where you begin your first spread. You don't have to number every page immediately. I would suggest 10 - 20 at a time, making sure you add important items to the index as you go.

    • @INKH3ArT3D
      @INKH3ArT3D 7 лет назад

      Yes, definitely keep track of pages and make note of every collection in the index. It makes it easier to look up something in a previous notebook!
      The great thing about the Bullet Journal system is that you can use any notebook, and I’m sure Taiwan has some very nice, sturdy journals that will work just as well.

    • @rhondahulland

      Personally, I use a lined notebook. It is just a personal preference. When numbering the pages, I only write the page number on the right hand pages (odd numbered pages). That way, I only have to do half the number of pages.

      You can weave the notes into your Bullet Journal - simply turn the page, label it with a title, and take your notes. Then you can index them. If you are taking meeting notes, for example, you'd add the meeting to your Daily Log "o Meeting with Sarah (pg. 39)" to "thread" to your meeting notes. Hope that makes sense!

      The value of a bullet journal is using it to put everything in one place and simplify your life, and if it's not doing that then you won't be motivated to use it. I tried to keep up with collections and trackers and all that cool fun stuff, but I eventually figured out it was just wasting time for me and making me less productive. After edits, I just put a whole semester of college in about 40 pages (I think actually less).
      I also found the classic "bullet journal" style of daily planning takes up extra time and thought processes for me, so i set up every week before the week starts with all of my plans written in ahead of time, and just write the tasks below it (looks a lot like the bohoberry weekly, but without the extra journaling). Setting up ahead of time tends to mean I'll actually use it. I would try different formats of daily and weekly planning to see what's practical for you.

      Make it simple. Bare minimalism can be very efficient! I only take a few minutes every evening to mark/migrate tasks and set up the next day.
      Also, don’t stress if you skip a few days/ months. Just jump back in when you can. This is what made me fall for the Bullet Journal in the first place. No guilt about missing days, as it’s customizable to your life.

    So I now have 3 bullet journals and am having trouble “leaving” them behind - thinking there is info I need to reference (notes in daily’s from project meetings etc.) Any suggestions?

    Ladies, let’s just remember that when we only talk about his “sexy voice” or his “lovely hands”, you’re *objectifying* him just as we are objectified daily. I truly hope those calling out his physical attributes don’t complain about cat-calls. You’re doing that to him here.
    On another note, I love the bit about the pushed off goals potentially being the wrong goals for you. I could’ve used that bit of advice a couple years ago, but I figured it out the long way around and learned (very well) from it.
    Great job, Ryder. Thank you.

      Exactly ... let's not have double standards. And I am staunchly conservative as an individual. So regardless of what side of the aisle someone may be on ... this is NOT okay to do. It's just disrespectful and reduces his accomplishments by focusing on things that are irrelevant to the video and him in his life.

      i don’t see the problem here. if someone thinks his hands are beautiful isn’t it a great thing to share with him? it’s a compliment after all..

    So I love starting a new Bullet Journal at the start of a new year, but I'm only 80 pages into my leuchtturm and I'm not sure if I want to waste all that paper...

      Keep going in your current book if that’s what you want to do. You’ll notice that a lot of people use a whole notebook in the span of a few months. I’ve been in my Leuchtturm1917 for a year on Jan 1.

    Do you use also digital tools to stay organized? Do you write EVERYTHING in your bullet journal? Do you also sketch or draft ideas and plans? :)

  • @krevbot

    Do you copy over actual content, "thread" the collections, or both?

    I've used Bullet Journal for the past year and it works. But for me its not necessary to start a new Bujo ever year. I just a new future log for the year and carry on. Still, I can see the psychological advantage of starting afresh. Just not needed for me.

    Recommendations for a collection which contain of notes for a subject one is studying? Seems like a lot of work to migrate each time you get a new book...

    • @grandunification
      @grandunification 7 лет назад +2

      look into traveler's journals! It's like bullet journaling but instead of one big notebook you have a bunch of smaller booklets held in a single case with straps. So you could chunk out class notes, daily planning, etc into separate little notebooks then just switch out the ones you need to when you need to.

      The Official Bujo app has a feature that makes a master index of all your collections and which book they are in.

      If you needed that collection in your daily life, copy it and tape it into your current book. That way you’ll have it without having to re-write it :)

      I find a lot of it as an excuse to have the most washi tape collection with hundreds of pens and busy-ness on spreads--even the 'minimalist' 'bujo' communities. You know, that feeling of 'psuedo productivity' that comes with planning but not doing? I'm sure Rob would be like, "Well if it works for them it's no matter how fancy it is."

      Ryder has said before on the website that he’s fine with however people adapt bullet journaling for themselves. Personally I need color pens because I’m dyslexic and contrast helps me read better.
