As a child in the '70's, the fireworks show viewed from Sam Lawrence Park was the only Canada Day festivity that mattered. Because of limited parking people walked form their homes or from the closed shopping centre lots where they parked instead. No admission, no ADVERTISING, just lots of oohs! and ahhhs! and then everyone went home happy. Now, I put off my celebration until July 4th when my bbq & beer can be topped off by watching Macy's NYC 4th Fireworks show (5 barges on the Hudson spread over 20 city blocks launching 60,000 fireworks -- God bless America's patriotic pomp!)
