These are the best Orchid videos ever !!! My Dancing lady after 3 years is getting flowers !!! If it wasn't for MissOrchidGirl, I would be nowhere. Awesome !!! Thank you !!
Informational and straight to the point. No talking about "there was this one time" kinda thing and helped me alot. Been wanting to grow an oncidium forever thanks
Excellent video as always. Thank you very much for all the advice. I have a very poorly Oncidium at present that I rescued from an elderly friend. It's now doing a little better than it was but it has a very long way to go. With the extra help you have provided here I hope to have some really good news in about six months.
I have had phalaenopsis orchids for years and i have learnt that im very good with them. Recently I brought orchid name labelled "Cambria" I knew it was very weak ( almost fully dead root system) and thanks to your videos i was able to save it. I checked and it has made new roots and new growth. Mine had very dark red/purpleish skinny flowers and i haven´t seen meny of those anywhere. I wish someday i will find real name for it!
Just got an oncidium for my channel here on youtube. So glad I found your channel! Great info. I grow so many different things indoors, but this is going to be my first try at an oncidium orchid. You got a new follower. :-)
Hello, I am happy I found your channel as I have just purchased 2 oncidiums named Miltonia, one is White Ruffle another is andrea West. They have wonderful fragrances, so I will be watching your channel for info on keeping them alive. Thanks for your wonderful advise for orchid growers.
Haha! This was great, but when I clicked on the video, I was hoping to hear about how YOU care for cattleyas and if they like semi hydro. I have one in a wick set up with leca and I hope it will thrive.
I’m building a 60 gallon orchidarium.. the soil for ferns at bottom level is a mix of: calcined clay, fir bark, cypress, blended sphagnum, rinsed charcoal, and coconut fiber. Will the Red Fantasy and twinkle do well in this mix? It will be very loose, not compacted.

Thank you so much! My odontocidium needed a little help and I am excited to learn new tips now! The watering advice was SO needed! I've been watering every 3-5 days for my odontocidium wildcat, and its pseudobulbs are getting ugly ugly! I am pretty sure I would kill vandas due to my forgetfulness with watering haha!! Again, thank you for the lovely video and it was very informative! Wonderful job!
You are welcome, but make sure your oncidiums don;t have rotten roots that could cause shrivelled bulbs first before you start watering more frequently. good luck!
I've got it in a clear, well ventilated pot in bark medium. I am so scared of using sphagnum, and my average winter humidity here is like 60-70% so I stay away from it. My climate is weird because humidity drops a lot in summer for us! Anyway, I am keeping an eye and will probably water every 3 days while it is still hot and see how it goes. :) Thanks very much for your responses!
Hi Danny, I have to tell you my thoughts about the pseudobulbs in oncidium genera. The environment from wich this kind of orchid's were found is in the tropics wich have a rainy season and a least humid one. These orchids need constant humidity around their roots. So if in nature the rule of all living things is the maximum benefit with the lower spent of energy. Why will an orchid use energy to store water if in the environment where she lives humidity is constantly available? My theory is: Because the water that they receive has very low nutrients the pseudobulbs do not store water only but nutrients. My experience is that if you have wrinkle pseudobulbs with good roots if you give them only pure water (0 TDS) they will take longer to refill that if you give them fertilized water and plenty of light. What do you think?
Hey Danny! Thank you very much for all your advices! Learning a lot from you. I had a question though. A lot of people say that, in order to make it rebloom, oncidiums need to be put outside during summer time. Is it an obligation? What do you think? I have sotoanum, twinkles, sphacelatum, colmanara and wilsonara. They are growing under artificial light and nothern window light. THks again Bye
I have a large Oncidium plant which sent out abut 20 very long spikes. The flowers are yellow but the spikes are very slow to open up and some spikes look like they are not wanting to send out flowers, only the spikes. I suppose I should be patient ant wait for what might happen. When this plant is done blooming I intend to transfer it to full water culture. Do you have any input on the described situation. Thank you
Hi Danny! I was wondering what the species that you are showing at 0:30 is called. I have one as well, and have been having trouble identifying the exact species/hybrid. Thank you!
I bought an Oncidium orchid that has blooms but the leaves are yellowing and the bulbs are very shriveled. I watered it, but the bulbs did not expend at all? Should I water it more? Why would the leaves on the newest bulb be yellowing?
Love your videos! What season do Oncidiums bloom? A video on blooming seasons of orchids would be a HUGE help as I'm trying to make a collection of orchids where there is always something in bloom
HI, that is a great idea :D I will make a video about the season of blooming for different orchids :) Oncidiums can bloom anytime, they don't have a season , at least for me :)
Connie, Hi MissOrchidGirl, in this video on care for your oncidiums you never mentioned anything about a rest period. Do you not give them a rest period any time, with no water or care. Kinda like Ameryllis bulbs. For a few months. Thank you for your time.
Hi Princess Danni. My rain water outside my ground floor balcony, i about 130 TDS. But my tap water is 98. Why? Is someone peeing in my water, or putting something else in it. Ore what. Shouldn't it be lower than the tap water. Confused.
I just bought a large Sherry Baby and I love it. Looks really healthy even has new growth. The poor plant is too big for the pot. There are 7 mature bulbs squeezed into a 5 inch pot. I want to repot it now but it has one spike in bloom. Can I repot it now without losing the spike? This looks to be the last flower spike. Others have been cut. Would it be best to just wait?
Hi Sarah, in some cases repotting while in spike can lead to flower drop and excessive bulb shriveling, if it is absolutely necessary I do it, but since your orchid is not sick then you can wait until the spike is done :) just keep it well watered, being that the pot is full of roots it will drink a lot of water fast :)
I purchased an oncidinm and it has a very dense root structure. The medium seems wet and I cannot get to it with out breaking some of the roots. I have soaked it and also slowly tried to get the medium out with tweezers. Should I continue doing this or just put into a new pot and leave some of the old stuff in there?
Hi Dani, Your roots on your oncidium are so white. Does the color of the roots vary depending on the medium and different parts of the country. Mine are white but turn brown. The plant is not dead but a brown or tan color. Also I get a green color as I don't have an outer pot to set the plant in. Any ideas for me? Thanks JoAnn
Hey, I love watching your videos, they've helped me so much growing my own orchids, if it wasn't for your advice, I still wouldn't have any blooms :) Would you be able to help me with what the black spots are on the oncidium orchids and how to prevent them please? Kind Regards
Orchids are so beautiful. I'm planning to buy at least one and find the space. I have so many plants of veggies and fruits. You really have some beautiful plants. Loved and Subbed. weekend work
OK put holes in all my pots --- but I wonder if that's good for pH rags they want to stay wet! even leave in a saucer - so maybe this is ??? do the roots want to get air thru the holes
+john mickel well, Phrags are a different beast, they are litophitic or semi terrestrial as far as I know, not epyphite like most orchids we can find to buy. So holes might not be needed :) they do still want a fluffy and airy media though but they like to be moist all the time as far as I know. I don't own a Phrag just yet but this might help carterandholmes.com/phragcare.html
Hi I bought a colmanara plant few months ago. I water them every 5 days (more or less) and the bulbs seems healthy and fat. It gave me 2 new growths that getting bigger and bigger. I noticed though that some of the leaves turned yellow only on the tip of the leaves and I m not sure why that happed. I water too much or not enough? I also haven't repotted yet and I m pretty sure I need to do that. I try to find some tips on your videos but didn't find anything about that. If you have some time to answer me I would be delighted Thnk you very much
Very good video. Where I can buy oncidium? I did not see at SF stores, they are so beautiful and I desire to have some. I have some orchids. Most of them are were sick and I like to reanimate / I have studied Biology and Chemistry in University of S.Petersburg / Russia/ many years ago and still remember my work with hydroponic growing tomatoes at summer practice . Now it is like a hobby,. Most of the time I watch Utube video from Russian bloggers, but here you are the best teacher!!!
Hi, most probably it's sap, a sticky sweet liquid. You don't necessarily need to do anything, but if it bothers you it can be wiped away with a wet napkin ☺️
I tried both - spray mounted espec bulbs 2-3 per day in hot roots dry up and plant dies/ but when using your help - in bucket - 15 min every day - what? roots rot off is plant looses leafs 1@a time - to water?
+john mickel Hi, I am sorry I don;t really understand but I'll try to guess :) if you soak the plant in the morning and make sure your environment is very ventilated the plant won't rot, it will dry fast. Just make sure there is good air circulation.
When and how do you prune a colmanara wildcat orchid? About 1 1/2 inch above the second node from the base? Or, 1 inch from where the blossom stalk originates? When: when all blooms have fallen off?
Marlene Walters I would cut about 1inch from the base of the flower spike. This is to be done when the flowers fall. This way, the orchid can focus on new growth and roots.
well it depends on the heat, if it's 30-32 deg celsius they might be ok in the shade, if it's more, I'm not sure how they will handle it. In any case, moisture is the key with Oncidiums, so you could experiment with one or two next summer.
Dani, I wish you'd list the names of any orchids shown in bloom during any of your videos; either on screen or in the description (can always copy it that way & Google a flower picture). That way if I, or other viewers, see one we really like we know what we're looking for online to order it for our own collections.
Hi, this is a very old video, 10 years old at this point oh wow haha since then things improved a lot and for the past few years I am adding names on the screen :)
Thank you for your videos! I had just asked a question regarding division of pseudobulbs on another one of your videos. I will follow the link above to find my answer. :)
i was wondering what the difference was between intergeneric names and oncidium names , were ? like i am interested in buying an orchid called brascidiostele , and i'm pretty sure it's a hybrid from brassia and half oncidium ? I am really confused as there isn't really a way of categorizing intergeneric species except through their names , and finding out how to care for them. I'm wondering if you could do a video to explain the names of intergenerics a little bit how you explained the abbreviations of cattleya's. I'm sure it's very different but as a beginner its very confusing to understand the names and what they mean such as miltassia , aliceara , beallara , brascidiostele as mentioned above.
decided it's time to split my sherry baby...which is why I've been looking up videos... i have plenty of bulbs in the pot to make three. oh my lord, I'm a little nervous, but confident :-) Just wanted to comment that I think the scent is an intoxicating blend of chocolate AND vanilla.
hellow miss orchids girl, I bought an oncidium have 1 spike And another 1 full Bloom, they used soil ,,,,, do I need to re pot in bark? please advice me what to do if I need to re pot in bark. thanks
Hi Randy, are you sure the orchids are potted in soil? sometimes they come potted in coconut husk that is milled somehow. It is a bit better than soil :P I personally preffer bark or moss to that fine milled coconut husk, if they are recent purchases you can wait a bit until the flowers fade. But make sure to not water too often, that medium retains a lot of water!
Do you know! That oncidium orchid can also planted on tree with very rough bark and the bark is also very easy to remove. We can plant it without any POT. In my grandmother house there oncidium orchid with small flowers on the watery rose apple tree.
Hi Dany i have a question do you think fertilizing twice a month all the year is ok ? And around 80 100 ppm it s ok ? I don t know how to know exactly the good ppm there s diffrent parameters like the light. What is the explanation of a flat bulb ? If you have other links i appreciate it. Thank again i learn a lot ☺
Hi there! I bought a Sharry Baby seedling, it's potted in a tiny pot with only sphagnum moss. Upon inspection I learned that half of the roots are rotted away and there are black spots on the lower leaves. What do I do? I don't want to lose it.
Trick5t3r Games Hi, sorry for the late response I was on vacation. Maybe a repot will do it good, moss might be decomposing. I would try to cut all the dead roots, spray hydrogen peroxide 3 % on them and repot in a mix of bark and sphagnum moss. keep the orchid ventilated at all times, this will really help. How is the orchid now?
Jorge Bueno I am not sure what you mean by difficulty and orchids die after repotting really, but I will answer that it's not difficult at all if you know what you are doing :)
Very informative! I tried growing a white purple spotted oncidium about 9 years ago. It did very poorly on my windowsill and I'm not sure why. Would you say these are heavy feeders?
hi danni. i bought what i think is 'Howard's dream' oncidum. i got the name from google after looking for photos. the tag says its a inter-generic hybrid. is there much different from a normal oncidum?
I just purchased my first Oncidium and need advice. I noticed in your video that you watered yours while in a non draining pot. Did you leave it to soak for any length of time, also do these orchids require a winter dormancy? How warm on a north facing shaded porch can they handle? Thanks, Liz
Michael W Hi Michael, well it depends what you mean with Phals, there are various ways of cutting a Phal spike, depending on the result you want :) with most oncidiums though you can cut the spike at the base, they don't rebloom or branch off
Hi Danny, this is Keiren. I don't seem to have much luck with Oncidium or Psychosis, I either have their pseudobulbs swiveled or. rotted even when they on a slab and get water everyday, do you know why? I water them early morning and I live in the tropic so it s pretty hot year round.
Hi Keiren, well there could be many things wrong, starting with the media they come in. The first step to keeping them healthy is to repot them into fresh media as soon as you get a chance, maybe after a week since purchase. Offer ventilation holes in the pot and airy media. If they are on a slab it's pretty hard to keep them hydrated and also it means you watering the whole plant, which may cause rots if there isn't enough ventilation. It is hard to tell what the problem is because I don't know how you took care of them :) so let me know more!
JPowellCreative That is a Oncidium Sharry Baby Yellow Flash, it's not a registered name but you can find it under this name, or Catherine Zoch in a few stores.
MissOrchidGirl looks like that's katrin zoch (Miltonidium) and also as Oncidium von holm (although this is not accurate) as well...can't find it state side right now..Stunnning! thanks for the info!
Oh, I had one question- For my oncidiums, should I give them a long long soak? I have been soaking them for a few hours at a time, maybe 2-3 hours each time I water. Is this good or bad or neutral? What length of soaking them do you recommend?
Hi Astrid, well it depends on the media you are using and your environment. If the temperatures are warm and you are using a non retentive mix like bark, a soak will benefit them as it will soak up the bark with water. A one hour soak is more than enough. If you are using sphagnum moss, long soaks are to be avoided as the moss already retains water and absorbs it very fast, coupled with low temperatures it won't be a good idea. So relate your watering technique to your environment and potting media and all should be fine :)
Can I repot my blooming oncidium? I got it with spikes already and it grows in a quite bad media (i don't know if it is peat + moss + bark chips or just broken down media of bark) anyways imho it needs to be repotet asap as the media dries for more than a week. I don't want to lose the plant but I'd like to keep blooms as well. Usually i repot them after they have finished blooming, in this case I don't want to wait. What do you suggest?
Hi, well sometimes blooms might fall after repotting, but sometimes they won't, depends how sick the orchid is actually and how much the roots get damaged. If the medium is just so horrible I would repot anyway, the mother orchid is more important than the flowers in my opinion.
Hi danny, i am from norway and im recently bought a onicidium without flower..So my question is does it need a winter rest durings dark period or needs reguler water as phalanopsis... when its actual flowering time? thanks in advance..
+Mahmudul Haque Hi, Oncidium orchids don't need winter rests, they have continuous growth and they need water all throughout the year. If in winter time your environment gets colder you might notice the water evaporates slower, so the frequency of watering might need to be reduced due to this. But the best thing to do is to watch how fast the media dries and when it is almost completely dry you can water. This can be every 3 days 5 days or 7 days, it all depends on your environment and how warm or dry it is. They can bloom whenever a new pseudobulb matures, they don't have a specific flowering season so you can have blooms in spring, summer, fall and winter :P
I purchased my first Oncidium. The pant medium seems quite dense. It doesn't appear to have any bark. When should I re-pot it and I know you recommend sphagnum moss and bark mixture. What ratio of each do you recommend?
Hi Mayrie, well it could be potted in sphagnum moss now, but you cannot know how old it is so it's a good idea to repot it. You can repot it after the flowers are done, or if the media smells really bad even sooner. The orchid might get some wrinkles on the bulbs, but that happens often when repotting oncidiums, they will plump back up. I use a 70% bark 30% moss mixture, but make sure your environment is ok for this. If it's humid all the time, moss won't be too great as it retains too much moisture. If it's sometimes dry and intermediate temperatures, moss can work well :) don't forget about the ventilation holes as well, those will aerate the pot. Hope this helps!
This was very helpful. Thank you. I purchased pots with slits all around the sides. The oncidium I bought has 3 new leaf stalks of different ages growing. I am very excited. One more question: I have east facing windows that they seem to love, but I am running out of room. If I placed my orchid plants across the room from a south facing window in a white room, is that sufficient light? I live in southwest Washington.
Mayrie Grimm Hi Mayrie, a south facing window is ideal, but I'm not sure how far away the orchids are :) you could use the east facing window for oncidiums and the other room for Phalaenopsis and other plants that don't require very bright light and don't mind no sun at all hitting their leaves :)
The south window would get full sun if the plants were right in the window. Thats why i thought maybe across the room might be better. It's about 10 feet away from the window. Sorry about so many questions. The east window gets morning sunlight.
Mayrie Grimm well test the south window out with some of the plants and see how they do :) maybe go with some Phalaenopsis there as they can adapt to various quantities of light and keep the oncidiums in the east window as they get some sunlight as well :)
Hi, I have an oncidium which has a psudo bulb with a big brown/dark spot on the bulb itself and the leaves that grow out of the bulb have dark spots also. This orchid has not bloomed in years. Should I just cut off the bulb and related leaves that are affected? What would you recommend?
MissOrchidGirl Thanks for your reply. Please see a link to the picture in photobucket here: i20.photobucket.com/albums/b230/leonpatry1/MyPictures/photo%201.jpg
Raul Rodriguez it looks to me like this is some sort of sunburn or some bacterial damage. If it doesn't spread more than this then all is ok you don't need to cut it. But I am not sure about the roots of this orchid, looks a bit shriveled, it might need a repot and check the roots system. Try to not let the media completely dryout between waterings.
Hi, you are safe to cut the spikes completely, they do not branch out like a Phalaenopsis, or continue growth from the tip. If they already started to dry don;t worry, all is normal :)
Hi Danny! 😁 I have 2 questions: 1. How do i water the aerial roots on cambria orchids when the plant is so huge and the roots are almost hidden behind them? 2. Is it damaging for the plant if it comes water in the leaves while i'm watering the cambria? Hope you reply 🙏 help in need
Thanushan Nagendran you can spray the aerial roots every day or couple of days and it should be fine. Water doesn;t damage the leaves, the problem is if it doesn't evaporate in a few hours and gets trapped for days between the leaves.
MissOrchidGirl I just purchased it's twin on Sunday at an orchid show (although at the moment it is a NOID as I haven't found a tag yet) but it is beautiful. I watched the other video and completely understand that "artificial" scent you are talking about. Thanks for your help! It is my first Oncidium so I'm doing research before repotting.
pArtha no. The roots in the air are just that, air roots. If you would put them in the pot they would probably rot. They aren’t used to the high moisture. Roots in the air on oncidium orchids is normal. I can tell your a beginner. This is the #1 channel to go to for orchid care. She is very knowledgeable and accurate in her information. Good luck.
Thanks Kaitlyn, my oncidium is doing good. I have potted them in wood charcoal and coco chips mixture and trained them gradually to mixture, very little watering in between. They are in good condition and flower spikes growing and they are about to bloom.
pArtha that’s great! I’m glad to hear you are having success. Just keep watching missorchidgirl. She will really help you better understand how to make your orchids thrive. Her info is very easy to understand. Good luck to you in the future and happy growing. Enjoy those blooms!
Hi Danni. I would like to buy Oncidium. Don´t know, which hybrid. Please could you give me any tip for hybrid which one needs just a little bit less light like others? Does any exist? :)
Martina Novakova Hi Martina, well it will all depend on your environment, but I can recommend the Colmanara Wildcat hybrids, they are very vigorous and adaptive in my opinion, more so than others :) Also the Jungle Monarch is in this category and it is very hardy and not picky :)
Hi Danny I'm very new to the hobby of orchid growing despite having had some for several years and I recently bought six seedlings off ebay and one of them look very upset it's a bullophyllum concinnum do you have any tips also Ihave an oncidium near bloom so the tips provided were helpful
Hi Andrew, congrats on your purchases :) well orchid seedlings need more attention than mature ones as they are more fragile. The thing with them is that they need moisture so never forget to water them. They also need more warmth than mature orchids, so winter rests and cool downs are off the table until maturity. I'm not sure what has happened with the bulbo but there are some basic things you need to do, like changing the media and offer a more water retentive one, never let it stay bone dry and keeping it warm. Ventilation is still a must as they are prone to rotting. When fertilizing, give them a quarter of the amount until they start to grow rapidly. And other than that it's a bit of luck, sometimes some orchids are infected with viruses, although rarely but just tend to it as best as you can and hope it has no disease :)

I decided to try a kingianum and walkeriana, since I already have a lot of phals. Gonna be exciting to have them!
What is the name of the orchid with yellow speckled flowers used for the cover of this video and also shown at 0:43?? I’m in love!

I have the tiger barn, do they usually take long to push out growth? I repotted in fine fir barks and my other oncidium is in medium
Thank you very much , Miss Dani !
Happy Growing !
Hi Danny, thank you for very informative video. ??? Is it ok to be moving the pots of orchids following the sunlight.
THks again

Where would you suggest shopping for an oncidium orchid? The only place I've seen them is at big box stores or home stores like Lowes or Home Depot.
My oncidium orchids that I got from my aunt had a dry roots and its folliage starting to die.,,I try spag and bag method, and i hope it will survive.
Hi danni, I have a wilsonara, should I treat it like an oncidium ?

Hi, that's a Beallara Tahoma Glacider :)
Hi Dani! I was wondering if you could give the name of the yellow orchid at 5:55?
I think it’s called dancing lady.

Hi.. thanks for all great videos. Question how you water this orchid? Do you need to soak them if yes for how long?
Connie,
Hi MissOrchidGirl, in this video on care for your oncidiums you never mentioned anything
about a rest period.
Thanks I will wait and thanks for doing your videos they are helpful.
Sarah Ireland You are welcome and good luck!
Hi Dani,
Your roots on your oncidium are so white. Does the color of the roots vary depending on the medium and different parts of the country. Mine are white but turn brown. The plant is not dead but a brown or tan color. Also I get a green color as I don't have an outer pot to set the plant in. Any ideas for me? Thanks JoAnn
Well presented script... nice presentation. Seems like the holiday really boosted the batteries... ;-)
ooooooor, I have more time since I am not home lol :P thanks John!
Dear Madam .can l grow my oncidium orchid by culturing pseudo bulb and also the detached baby branch.
Hey, I love watching your videos, they've helped me so much growing my own orchids, if it wasn't for your advice, I still wouldn't have any blooms :)
Would you be able to help me with what the black spots are on the oncidium orchids and how to prevent them please? Kind Regards
Orchids are so beautiful. I'm planning to buy at least one and find the space. I have so many plants of veggies and fruits. You really have some beautiful plants. Loved and Subbed. weekend work
Thank you nery, good luck in finding the perfect orchid for you :D
thanks
Hi danny I just bought my first oncidium what happens when it stops flowering
👋 Does Oncidium orchid like to be potted in clay pots with holes?
After the flowers have died, do you cut the flower spike?
OK put holes in all my pots --- but I wonder if that's good for pH rags they want to stay wet! even leave in a saucer - so maybe this is ??? do the roots want to get air thru the holes
+john mickel well, Phrags are a different beast, they are litophitic or semi terrestrial as far as I know, not epyphite like most orchids we can find to buy. So holes might not be needed :) they do still want a fluffy and airy media though but they like to be moist all the time as far as I know. I don't own a Phrag just yet but this might help carterandholmes.com/phragcare.html
Danny, do you know the name of this Oncidium? Ive been trying to identify it but can't fin it. But you have it! I'll send pics, thanks, Denise
where do u get most of your orchids? i have trouble finding anything other than phalaenopsis orchids
Hi
I bought a colmanara plant few months ago.
If you have some time to answer me I would be delighted
Thnk you very much
Very useful. All ur videos r really good.
My oncidium has some sticky substance on the leaves. What is it and what should I do about it. The leaves are not thick.
This way, the orchid can focus on new growth and roots.
nice video im planing on getting one some point in time, if they have bright sunlight but not direct would they be good out in the summer heat ???
well it depends on the heat, if it's 30-32 deg celsius they might be ok in the shade, if it's more, I'm not sure how they will handle it. In any case, moisture is the key with Oncidiums, so you could experiment with one or two next summer.
thamks for your opinion
I'm sure it's very different but as a beginner its very confusing to understand the names and what they mean such as miltassia , aliceara , beallara , brascidiostele as mentioned above.
decided it's time to split my sherry baby...which is why I've been looking up videos...
i have plenty of bulbs in the pot to make three. oh my lord, I'm a little nervous, but confident :-)
Just wanted to comment that I think the scent is an intoxicating blend of chocolate AND vanilla.
+John Paul Hi John, be brave all is well, just keep at least 3 psb per division :) yes the fragrance is fantastic!
My oncidium is watered well with good drainage but the pseudobulbs keep shriveling worse and worse. I don’t know what to do.
hellow miss orchids girl, I bought an oncidium have 1 spike And another 1 full Bloom, they used soil ,,,,, do I need to re pot in bark? please advice me what to do if I need to re pot in bark.
Hi Danny,I brought an oncidium which has quite a lot of dead pseudobulbes.should u cut them or keep them.thx
Should I cut the flower spike when the blooms fall off? Thanks in advance.
Do you know! That oncidium orchid can also planted on tree with very rough bark and the bark is also very easy to remove. We can plant it without any POT. In my grandmother house there oncidium orchid with small flowers on the watery rose apple tree.
Oh and also my grandmother oncidiums are always get DIRECT SUNLIGHT even AFTER the AFTERNOON, the orchids are always healthy.
Thank you for all the information.
Do you use pestiside on your orchid and if yes what you use?
I just bought one and I saw it on your video at 5:29 , do you know what hybrid is it? Mine has a very slight floral fragrance that made decide for it
Hi, yes that is the Oncidopsis Bartley Schwarz :) ruclips.net/video/Vo6d94KsJCI/видео.html
Can you please tell me how difficult is to change the orchids to bigger pot, without the die
Thanks in advance
Jorge Bueno I am not sure what you mean by difficulty and orchids die after repotting really, but I will answer that it's not difficult at all if you know what you are doing :)
Is that a coffee cup holder I see?!? Very smart... I saw all those little pieces of wood hanging on it!
Gotta go to the thrift store now, bye.
Thanks, Liz
Ms Dani, do u cut the flower spike just like the Phals once the blooms fall?
It is hard to tell what the problem is because I don't know how you took care of them :) so let me know more!
what is that very pretty oncidium hybrid around the 5 minute or so mark when your talking about light? thanks!
Oh, I had one question-
For my oncidiums, should I give them a long long soak? I have been soaking them for a few hours at a time, maybe 2-3 hours each time I water. Is this good or bad or neutral? What length of soaking them do you recommend?
Hi Astrid, well it depends on the media you are using and your environment. If the temperatures are warm and you are using a non retentive mix like bark, a soak will benefit them as it will soak up the bark with water. A one hour soak is more than enough. If you are using sphagnum moss, long soaks are to be avoided as the moss already retains water and absorbs it very fast, coupled with low temperatures it won't be a good idea. So relate your watering technique to your environment and potting media and all should be fine :)
hi danny, is it ok to put oncidiums were it will receive morning sun?☺
+Clarence Espinoza Hi, yes they should appreciate it :)
Hi!!! Where does a Vuyl Carnivale 'Rio' fit into this category? Standard oncidium care?
where did you buy the terra cotta balls, in the orchid pots?
Raul Rodriguez Hi Raul, send me a picture in a comment, upload it to photobucket and send me the link to see cos it's hard to tell without seeing it
MissOrchidGirl Thanks for your reply. Please see a link to the picture in photobucket here:
i20.photobucket.com/albums/b230/leonpatry1/MyPictures/photo%201.jpg
Raul Rodriguez it looks to me like this is some sort of sunburn or some bacterial damage. If it doesn't spread more than this then all is ok you don't need to cut it. But I am not sure about the roots of this orchid, looks a bit shriveled, it might need a repot and check the roots system. Try to not let the media completely dryout between waterings.
My year old oncidium's roots are short. No bloom yet.
Do they live on dirt or mulch or both?
Anyone knows please?
Mine thrive in bark and cinder or bark and moss, never dirt.
Great advice...thanks
beautiful orchids you have there -wonder your are in the warmer area ?
+nhu thomas hi, no I am in a temperate climate - hot summers - very cold winters :)
how to care dragon plant
Hi Danny-- Should flower spikes be cut on Oncidiums after the blooms have dried up (the same as with Phalaenopsis?)?
Hi, you are safe to cut the spikes completely, they do not branch out like a Phalaenopsis, or continue growth from the tip. If they already started to dry don;t worry, all is normal :)
Hi Danny! 😁 I have 2 questions:
MissOrchidGirl thank you so much. You're the best 😄
What is the name of the Oncidium shown at 3:17?
Hi Allison, that is an Oncidium Jungle Monarch ruclips.net/video/FT_y1cq9uA8/видео.html
Allison Klein :D good luck with the repotting, it's an easy orchid to take care of in my opinion, it just grow like a weed :)
I've just got an oncidium with its roots in air (hold in a Basket). should I plant it in bark media?
I have an orchid that I would like to know what it is. How can I send you a photo of it?
wow nice informative video danny.
MissOrchidGirl
Danni thank you for the advice. Happy Easter. :)
Una pregunta esos Oncidium algunos son híbridos
Do Oncidiums need a rest period with minimal water during Winter?
Hi, no they are continous growers. Watering should be altered or not in accordance to environment.
Many thanks.
Please give us the site for good orchid species
