    The answer is always tailwheel!! 😁 Just like automatic vs manual, manual every time! Fun flight and camping, thanks for sharing!

    • @greg1268
      @greg1268 3 года назад +1

      I’m not a pilot but i was thinking the same thing about manual vs. automatic. Tango said something about tailwheel keeping you more engaged (I think) and I thought I wonder if it’s like manual vs. automatic?

    • @TheFlyingStampede
      @TheFlyingStampede 3 года назад +2

      @@greg1268 It definitely does. I love driving manual because it keeps me on my toes at all times and I feel like I have more control, especially on the snowy roads here in Wisconsin. Tailwheel flying is similar because it forces you to really use those rudder pedals especially on takeoff and landing. You are always on your toes from the minute you start up to the moment you shut down. My Pacer is notorious for being squirrley on the ground, but that is what drives me to never being complacent in any phase of flight.

    • @TangoandJuliet

      Tailwheel flying opens the doors to some really cool airplanes as well. Definitely more challenging and rewarding to fly, plus backcountry utility is a huge plus for us.

    Almost all GA aircraft are underpowered especially in the high mountains in the west. A Continental 85 h.p. does not make 85 hp unless it is new (fresh & tight) and at sea level. You are lucky to get 50-70 hp. At their elevation and density altitude it is a recipe for disaster. I've been all over that area and it is beautiful. Many of the local airports are ~7,000 ft elevation. Way too high for a small carburetor engine especially on a hot day. Their last moments must have been terrifying.

      Per the final report, the only consolation is that actually did not likely experience much or any terror. Tim experienced spatial disorientation in night conditions, spiraled, and crashed. They had GoPros running and zero human sounds were made after impact-meaning they were instantly killed. May these beautiful souls rest in peace. May we as pilots learn what we can from their loss. Fly safely folks.

    Lived in LHC for 5yrs in late 80s back when it only had one traffic light. Great place. I always described it like mini Ft Lauderdale on Spring Break. We would close the bars the take the boats up the river to Bullhead. Next day we would be back on the boats at Copper Canyon.

    Tail wheel is definitely better for off airport, but there are a ton of off airport destinations you can do with a nose dragger. Sooner or later if you want to go faster you’ll be looking at some nose draggers.

  • @chrism3872

    I own two tailwheel airplanes, and I like the challenge of course, but there is a pleasure in flying something that most pilots do not fly, or perhaps even care to. Also, it is possible to go places that one cannot in a tricycle gear airplane, not to mention the "fun factor..."

      Definitely! We went with a company called Turo which fit more to our schedule. If you go with other car rental places be sure to check their hours of operation, as most of them close super early in the afternoon like 12noon and 2pm. If you ever need the guys we used we’d be happy to share his info. Super nice guy! 😊
