Great video Alex. One cool thing about the Civic for 2016 is it uses extremely high end and exotic very hard steel in almost the entire car. The highest rating automotive grade steel known is used in almost the entire structural part of the car. The entire unibody. Whereas most new modern cars use their exotic steel (almost as high a grade) in just some of the structure. Usually in the a-pillar and lower rockers and floor and b pillar. The civic uses tons of it everywhere. Pretty impressive huh? Hondas always been on the forefront of body construction and that's one thing I enjoy about them. I'm not really a Honda fan either!
Thanks for another great review, Alex. Do you think you might do a mini review of the Touring trim in the near future to see if it improves on any of the scores for seat comfort, ride and acceleration? I'm living vicariously through reviews like yours until I'm able to get my new Civic in a month or two. :)
Alex i just wanted to let you know, This is my first video i have seen from you and i have to say wow, very good lighting coming in to the interior of the car and great angles, this is great. keep up the good work. subscribed.
Thanks as always Alex!!! My oldest daughter just bought her first car...a 2016 Civic EX-L w/Honda Sensing. It is fantastic! And would still love to see you drive one of the 1.5L Turbo's...my daughters love watching your reviews with me. Anyway, if I didn't love my 2015 Accord Hybrid Touring so much...I'd buy one of these 2016. :-) We're up to our eyeballs in Honda's now...and we are loving it...bought another "used" 2015 Civic EX-L w/only 2,500 miles on it last fall...and this new 2016 is MUCH MUCH bigger where I feel that Honda has really blurred the lines between the Accord and the Civic. I'm 6'-5" and the 2016 is really comfortable for me...not as wide feeling, but so much bigger that I feel everyone that is looking at used Accords (as my older daughter was) should check out the 2016 Civic. She's already gotten 42.7 MPG in highway driving...and 34.8 MPG on another tank...again pretty good as I'd gotten 42.3 mpg w/my Accord Hybrid on 4,000+ mile trip through 7 National Parks in Utah, Arizona, and California last year (with LOTS of brisk driving on lonely beautiful roads with the whole family. Again would love to see you behind the wheel of the 1.5 Turbo. Appreciate you!!!
I currently work at Honda down in Florida. I found both your 2016 Accord and Civic videos enjoyable, and very informative. I look to purchase possibly a 2016 Civic EX-L in the future.
so awesome a Honda civic commercial started playing about 2/3 way through the video, now thats good advertising haha. Great review btw. I cant wait to see the type R on your roads!
I am not used to watch a good car review from US, but you`ve done a very good job here. Mostly car reviews are (even Lamborghini Ferrari), its sexy, looks good, leather interior, white color, very bad hadling (to a Ferrari???) blah blah blah. There are so many videos out there without any `number` in it... I got all I need here, even detailed interior demonstration. Have decided to buy one of them.
Honda civic, the best selling car in Canada for 17 years and one of the top 3 in the U.S......very reliable, great car.......that's all the hype people make about something. I have had a 2014 civic, tons of problems, many of which are not solvable and Honda denies them, it has taken me to the dealership more than any other car I have ever had,,,,whatever they make, I am not gonna be fooled again by the hype around something....good review Alex, as always. thanks
@@themandoloreean2314 Yep I even made a Focus last 170k with no problems just because I drove it sanely. Even then all it needed was a clutch could have gone farther no doubt.
Very well done and comprehensive review. This new 10th Gen Civic is really nice with impressive optional safety features. Regarding comparing this car to Nissan's & Mazda's offerings the Civic will likely reward you with significantly better resale value as well as long- term reliability. Additionally I am a fan of Mazda's sporty driving dynamics however they suffer from too much road noise in my opinion, and lack Honda reliability.
I'm not a huge fan of the chrome bar up front, but this car is drop-dead gorgeous from behind. Thanks for the impeccable review, as always. Maybe I'll see you again for the new Hatchback variant!
It's funny looking through the comments. When he reviews the top level trims people complain, and now when he reviews a more mid level trim people are still complaining. I do love the new Civic though. I almost bought a 2015 Civic but went for the Fit instead, luckily as I would have been pissed when I saw how much better looking the new one is.
Love your show. You do great car reviews but I wish you wouldn't climb into the trunk because I am worried that you will get stuck sometime. Best, Paul
I'm not crazy about this new corporate grille because it's about as gaudy as the 1st gen Ford Fusion. It's as if they're trying to "out-chrome" the competition, even Acura. Call me old school, but I've always thought Civics should not have a grille between the headlights, like the CR-Z. Otherwise, it looks alright, kind of a blend of the Crosstour's shape, with the Fit's rear. Those rear quarter windows make it look less like a Civic sedan. Great review.
Hey Alex, great review its good to see Honda getting back to their roots. Alex, do you know when you may be able to review the new 2017 chevy cruze and Hyundai Elantra? I really like this Civic but the Cruze hatchback and the new Elantra look so good. I have a 2006 Mazda 3 with almost 150,000 miles and I'm looking to replace it sometime this year.
I had this car (2017 model with 5000 KM on it) on loan for 3 days whilst my 2016 Hyundai Elantra's body was being repaired (light fender bender). That infotainment system is soooo sluggish that it's really annoying. The seats are so firm that on long trips my ass was numb. The suspension is harsh on bad roads (as can be seen in this video). The interior is noisy. The CVT is too "grabby" from a stop, requiring you to use the brakes needlessly at low speeds to restrain the car in stop-and-go traffic (no wonder they have that "brake hold" feature). The fuel economy is about the same as my car. I was glad to get my Elantra back.
The 2.0L engine accounts for the largest share of sales, around 75%. That's the main reason: hopefully I'll also have a touring video out at some point
+Alex on Autos Now that I thought of it a little more, reviewing lower end trim is brilliant idea, because there are so many review of Touring already available and almost none of lower trims. Great move, I would have to say. Anyway here is a tricky question. Is it still worth getting any lower trim of ILX when such nice "fully" loaded Civic touring is available? All trims of civic seem to offer hell of a lot for the money. Feature wise, Touring is better equipped than base ILX. I'm sure Acura has more premium feel to it and probably made of a little more quality parts, but is it really worth it? I think Honda sensing package is an extremely significant feature for this car. It's revolutionary in way of putting such nice feature in one of most affordable cars in US. Most likely this will shake up car industry and all of these safety systems soon will come standard on all cars, because of Honda's move. Also it's nice to see car industry pushing their safety features not because government mandates it, but because it will actually make roads a safer place. It also seems there is much confusion of the way all safety system work, it would be nice to see explanation on how each system adopts and react on the road. Thank you.
the correlation is bigger? well maybe longer, but rhetoric civic is way wider. my mom has a 14 corolla and car seats fits on the back and I have plenty of room (I'm 6'1). but in the front I hit the passenger with my elbow and I test drove the civic and the center armrest is noticeable wider.
Nice review Alex. I hope you get a chance to take a look at the 2016 Malibu soon, preferably the 2.0t version. I test drove the 2.0t and 1.5t the other day and was not too impressed with the 1.5t, but the 2.0t with the 8-speed just felt so smooth and effortless. I test drove the 2016 Civic touring when it came out a couple months ago but it just wasn't for me. The interior was very nice, but the ride was loud, throttle tip in was terrible (I had to mash the peddle to go anywhere, but once mashed it sure moved), and ride was not the smoothest. Of course I didn't expect it to excel in any of these areas, being an economy car, but my Versa is more comfortable.
1) 2016 Scion iA 2) 2016 Honda fit 3) 2016 Mazda3 4) 2016 Honda Civic. Which vehicle would you guys recommend and why? P.S The car that I would get would be the base model and they would be automatic. I have decided that these are the best cars I can get for the money and I am having trouble deciding which one to get. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Hello Alex, I was hoping that you cover the 1.5t engine equipped Honda Civic and go over more in detail about the difference in CVT used in the turbo model vs the Naturally Aspirated model also the effectiveness and reliability of the torque converter used in turbo models.
Hi Alex. Do you know the Honda manual transmission has hill start features ? meaning the transmission will hold the car form sliding down when you put the clutch in first gears...
Hi Alex, Thank you for the video, very informative. I get one question for you, in the video, I saw a Chinese song named '’月亮代表我的心“ showing on the screen in the car while you introducing the infotainment system, is that one of the songs you listen to everyday?
+Jake Zhao It's in the collection :) This is what happens when you go to Chinese school for a few years when growing up. (Long story) I also have plenty of Swedish music as a result of a few years of learning Swedish
Thanks for replying. That is a beautiful song. Enjoy it! Your car reviews are definitely t the most detailed reviews and test drives I ever seen on RUclips. Really appreciate your work!
+solarwind1980 also I've been hearing that the fuel economy for the turbo is based on having the eco mode on all the time with itch I'm sure alot of people aren't going to do so it may not get as good as the estimate says especially in city driving
Hi Alex, any early review on 2017 Honda Civic hatch back, 2017 Subaru Impreza (hatch / sport) ? I love your detail, show and tell as you talk. Hope you can help. Thank you !!!
Just an FYI, I believe most Compact cars you have to step up to the top trim to get power seats. So the Titanium for the Focus or the LE Premium ECO Premium and S Premium for the Corolla, etc....So Honda is consistent with the rest of the competition I believe. Honda offers power adjustments in their seats in the Touring Trim. ;-)
Although the Civic Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column has a decent range of motion, the release mechanism is EXTREMELY difficult to reach and use, similar to many Ford products.
Does it have options to set the sensitivity of the Lane Departure System? That's way too aggressive and I'm worried about mis-reading under certain circumstances.
The Honda sensing is a NO Brainer. Plus it adds value at trade or resale. I have the fact they have to big blank circles where the fog lights go forcing you to buy the fog lights.
Hey Alex, any chance on some impressions with the 2017 Civic hatchback, 2017 cruze anytime soon? also what are your choise : hybrid? gasoline? small, medium, large, compact, midsize, full size : sedan, pick up, suv , etc...
So Alex, now you have reviewed the Civic... My question: Which is the best ride between Mazda 3 s Turing & Civic Turing? Actually, I have a 2nd question: Acura ILX w/ premium package v.s. Civic Turing. Do you think that ILX still holds the value proposition with $3500 more? Or Civic Turing is a better buy? Thank you!
Excellent reviews on this channel, I must say. However, I see a, probably unintentional, bias against Chevy cars. I wonder why the Cruze is never mentioned in any of the comparisons. In the pricing comparison almost every other car in this segment is mentioned except the Cruze. Some in the list sells far less than the Cruze. Similary, in the midsize sedan reviews I hardly see the Malibu mentioned in any comparisons.
+George Samuel Raju I generally try to limit comparisons to the top 3-4 on the sales charts and models that are high in cross shops from some of the market research companies. The Cruz and Malibu don't tend to sell that well and since I can't talk about all the options I have to cut somewhere. I also left out the Jetta, Impreza, Dart, etc.
the only reason i would choose the Corolla over the Honda is that the Corolla has standard LED headlights, unlike the civic which makes you go for the highest Trim to get them.
+iTsTheVoLtAgE On our '14 Accord Hybrid Touring the LED headlights are wonderful to drive behind. If the LED headlights in the Civic are like the Accords I can wholeheartedly endorse them.
oldtwins the corolla's LED's dont look that bad.. i was just saying that it kind of sucks that you have to go for the highest trim to get Honda's LED's. i'm also not a big fan of the LCD instrument panel with the digital gauges and such.
My other car is a corolla and the led headlights are super nice and long lasting. Cuts sharp and gives off nice purple/blue tint. But if led headlamp is the only thing preventing you from getting a civic, then it’s definitely the wrong way to go about it. It’s got way more features than the corolla and looks super sportier. Turbo charged motor gives it way better performance than the corolla by far and at the same time, getting like what? 32 mpg city? Not too shabby. I personally would go for the touring model. It’s still fairly cheap.
I was hoping for a review on the EX-T or Touring model; I'm VERY curious on Honda's take on the turbocharging game everyone has a mad on for these days. Also, 月亮代表我的心? So do you speak Chinese Alex?
Wow I'm surprised the Corolla is still longer than the Civic i think is the Long Hood gives it the impression that the car's much longer than it already is.
Hey Alex, I noticed (as multiple others did) that the display was properly rendering Chinese characters. I'd like to know if that was CarPlay or via Honda's UI. I have the 2015 Sonata and that was the only car I've seen that renders more than one language via the native Hyundai UI. Also, I'm VERY interested in cars that are able to render multiple languages for songs (especially Chinese, Korean, and Japanese). I can provide songs in multiple languages if you would like to cover that in your reviews.
The ID tag is what is shown on most infotainment. The question is whether the infotainment systems have the language font installed for the language on the ID tag.
Alex, does the Civic have full speed radar cruise control? Will it come to a full stop in heavy traffic and follow the car in front whenever traffic moves without driver input? Or is it only partial radar cruise control, like it only works above 15mph? Also, what about the Type R?
+Antenox Like Alex replied, it will come to a full stop. However, it will not move again when traffic moves without driver input like some cars' systems. According to the owner's manual, you have to tap the Resume button to resume following the car in front of you once they're moving again.
Alex on Autos JesseOsby That's awesome! I was shopping for a car in late 2014/early 2015 and other than Subaru's EyeSight, the only cars that had full range adaptive cruise control were $40,000 luxury cars.
+Alex on Autos ... Hi Alex, I was wondering if this trim has an included remote engine starter. The online spec sheet says that it is included (in Canada) but I am unsure whether they are referring to the keyless pushbutton start or an actual remote for starting then engine.

+solarwind1980 The touring is much more quite.
+Mike Mac not true
Hi Alex, any early review on 2017 Honda Civic hatch back, 2017 Subaru Impreza (hatch / sport) ? I love your detail, show and tell as you talk. Hope you can help. Thank you !!!
I bought one I LOVE IT the turbo really is impressive and a very comfy ride but kinda hard on gas
Did you experience problems with AC?
Just an FYI, I believe most Compact cars you have to step up to the top trim to get power seats. So the Titanium for the Focus or the LE Premium ECO Premium and S Premium for the Corolla, etc....So Honda is consistent with the rest of the competition I believe. Honda offers power adjustments in their seats in the Touring Trim. ;-)
Although the Civic Tilt/Telescoping Steering Column has a decent range of motion, the release mechanism is EXTREMELY difficult to reach and use, similar to many Ford products.

love that song
love that song
love that song!
Ooo, that's a Chinese classic romantic song, Alex. Good taste.
Hey Alex, any chance on some impressions with the 2017 Civic hatchback, 2017 cruze anytime soon? also what are your choise : hybrid? gasoline? small, medium, large, compact, midsize, full size : sedan, pick up, suv , etc...
can't wait for a Cruz review
So Alex, now you have reviewed the Civic... My question: Which is the best ride between Mazda 3 s Turing & Civic Turing? Actually, I have a 2nd question: Acura ILX w/ premium package v.s. Civic Turing. Do you think that ILX still holds the value proposition with $3500 more? Or Civic Turing is a better buy?
Thank you!
Hi Alex,
How does the Honda Sensing and Subaru Eyesight systems compare?
Hey Alex,
I'd like to see your impression of the 1.5 Turbo. Do you plan to do a brief test of that anytime soon?
Sir Civic 2016 EXL (Comes with Electronic seats).
the only reason i would choose the Corolla over the Honda is that the Corolla has standard LED headlights, unlike the civic which makes you go for the highest Trim to get them.
+iTsTheVoLtAgE the thing is, the led headlights on the corolla are not very good at all. they used a very cheap design with weak output.
R Usack i will defiantly agree with you on that; they look really nice at night.
Alex, would you rather get the civic ex-t or the base model SE 2016 dodge charger?
Hey Alex, any change of doing the Ex-T with the turbo charged engine review?
I was hoping for a review on the EX-T or Touring model; I'm VERY curious on Honda's take on the turbocharging game everyone has a mad on for these days.
Also, 月亮代表我的心? So do you speak Chinese Alex?
Teresa Teng, nice job Alex!
Comparing the civic to the ILS, is the extra price of the ILS worth it?
you mentioned auxiliary input? is it really there???
Hey Alex! Is a dodge dart review in the future? I would love to hear what you think!!!
Wow I'm surprised the Corolla is still longer than the Civic i think is the Long Hood gives it the impression that the car's much longer than it already is.
Good review, thanks.
+Antenox It is full speed range
+Antenox Like Alex replied, it will come to a full stop. However, it will not move again when traffic moves without driver input like some cars' systems. According to the owner's manual, you have to tap the Resume button to resume following the car in front of you once they're moving again.
Alex on Autos JesseOsby
That's awesome! I was shopping for a car in late 2014/early 2015 and other than Subaru's EyeSight, the only cars that had full range adaptive cruise control were $40,000 luxury cars.
+JesseOsby it is a full speed system...but not sure it comes to full stop.
paul pellico If it doesn't come to a full stop then it's not full speed.
月亮代表我的心....Alex you know a lot of Chinese!
like you choose of music on the center touch screen
+Alex on Autos ... Hi Alex, I was wondering if this trim has an included remote engine starter. The online spec sheet says that it is included (in Canada) but I am unsure whether they are referring to the keyless pushbutton start or an actual remote for starting then engine.
+funkmast99 I'm not sure, that is not offered in the USA
Alex when can you do a review of the touring version. I would like to see what your take on it.
+Nigel Cox Good news! We will have it on Monday and have the review up in about three weeks! Follow us on Facebook to watch the progress
Alex on Autos That's Wonderful, sorry for my late reply. I'll be looking forward to it thanks for the reply.
great review
you should do a review on the coupe as well
Is the first one he shows the 2016?
