Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets (Celestial Voices, with choir and orchestra)

  • This is Celestial Voices, the last section of the suite A Saucerful Of Secrets, played live at Royal Albert Hall the 26th of June 1969, as the last part of the concept gig The Man And The Journey.
To me, this is the most beautiful version of this piece.
It's being played by the Floyd, accompaigned by an orchestra and a choir.
I find it tremendously breath-taking, especially when the choir starts...
Unfortunately, this is the best version circulating, and actually, there is no video shot of the event!
This is the infamous concert that caused a ban to the Floyd, for "damaging" the hall.
During the gig, there was a man masked as a Gorilla, that wandered around making soap bubbles and at the end of Celestial Voices they set off two cannons (you can hear one of them at the end of this track)
Check out the IFWT website for bootleg tradings.

This was one of the piece of music we played for our wedding 50 years ago. This one was played as we came out of the church. We also played the flute part of Grand Vizier garden party after reading a poem by Tagore.

I heard something similar on a "white out" dose of magic mushrooms, it was the most euphoric experience I have ever had by far. It was as if my consciousness was transported to a dimension of pure positive energy, sadly I only have hazy memories of it.

This was a most moving experience, at the end the audience would not let them leave the stage, the band were adamant that after this piece of music there was nothing else that would do anything but bring the whole experience down. However after what seemed like 10 minutes of non stop encore demands they relented and played a sublime version of set the controls for the heart of the sun. Richard wright was playing the Royal Albert Hall organ on this.

There is one (14APR71, Rotterdam) that features Roger doing a "Pict" rant in the part immediately before the "Celestial Voices" part.
