Finally, the much requested video in Vietnamese 🤧
Honestly, the reason it took me so long to actually get to filming this was because I wanted it to be perfect. I post a lot about how proud I am to be Vietnamese (because it took so long for me to learn about and appreciate my culture) and so I thought posting a video in which I wasn't fLuEnT would be disappointing to a lot of you guys.
But in reality, I am a Vietnamese-American/second-generation immigrant who has spoken English for the majority of her life. And although I am still trying to learn more Vietnamese and can share this through my platform, it would be unrealistic to front as if I were fluent. So if you are Vietnamese-American and aren't the best at Vietnamese either, it's ok! Let's learn together! Hope you all have a lovely Lunar New Year/Tết 🏮

I can pronounce words correctly and have no accent (though I speak in the Southern dialect and everything seems to be in the Northern dialect) but I have the vocabulary of a toddler learning how to speak (I want ___, I am tired, I love mom/dad, where is my glasses, thank you, happy new year) and I call myself ‘con’ even with my Vietnamese foreign exchange friend that I met because I’m so used to only speaking to adults.

Even though I'm from Malaysia, I've never heard people speaking in Viet before. Listening to it for the first time, it sounds like a mixture of Thai and Cantonese, and I don't know why but it sounds kinda cute too. I think maybe it's the intonation? Anyways, I'm a recent subscriber, and I've been enjoying all your videos so far! I still can't seem to follow some of your makeup looks (thanks to my lack of skills) but I'm definitely going to do some of the simple ones to class one day 💕

It's great to see someone encourage learning a new language BEFORE they're fluent and to promote language learners - including those with relevant cultural heritage - who are still on their way to becoming fluent. I am Chinese-American and it took me a LONG time to get over my fear of speaking Chinese/Mandarin to anyone Chinese!

this means so so so so so much to me as a second generation asian american. i am half vietnamese, but i grew up speaking english in a very american setting, which makes it difficult for me to feel like i can accept myself as vietnamese at all. ive been trying to connect back to that side of my culture, and also learn the language too. to see you trying as well motivates me to no end!!! i hope you have fun continuing to learn!!

For short you can call yourself as “mình” - this word is same like “me” in English, no one will be older or younger than you. Your viewers you can call us “các bạn”, this will be same as “you guys”

@@jessyluxe so I asked my mom about the whole I thing in vietnamese, and it depends on who you're talking to and what age you are! My mom said that tôi would've also been good (she said it's best for when you're teaching to people), but she also said that people do speak in 3rd person is acceptable too! I never knew that until this video and when I had to ask my mom lol.
takyume i think the best way to refer to yourself in videos/situations like this is (if not your own name in 3rd person) "mình"! its cute and friendly but still has a tiny bit of formality to it

it’s so interesting to see this. As a Latina born and raised in the states, english is what I speak the most, although I was taught Spanish growing up. I speak it well however I do tend to struggle w some words as well as keeping the flow going. It’s hard trying to film in your native language when you’re not perfect at it and it becomes a mix of the two languages. Spanglish for me. I get so caught up w Spanish and my own experience that I never stop to think that other cultures struggle w the same thing. Speaking “broken” languages. And it’s so interesting to see that there are in fact an American accent to other languages other than what I see when it comes to Spanish (If that makes any sense haha) I loved this girl. Keep it up ! There’s always room to learn and improve ❤️❤️❤️

Me and my family went to Da Nang and Hoi An around 2 years ago. We aren’t Vietnamese, and don’t speak it, but we had a tour guide and stayed at her house (a homestay). Everyone was so kind and the beach was so close. It was so peaceful. This makes me wanna go back, lol.
