B-17s, B-25s, P-38 lightnings, and p-51 are my FAVORITE planes-- with B-17 at the front. Those were REAL planes.. Classics that EARNED their rep!!! LOVE "EM all..
Helps keep the memory of those who flew those daylight raids alive. It also reinforces to the younger generations the sacrifices made during that war by all those that went through it. Good on you. Rob Melbourne Australia.
Absolutely amazing! This just takes your breath away to think about the commitment to see this project through to completion. Even if it didn't fly it would still be amazing. I wish my dad's best friend who was a navigator on a B-17 was still around to see it.
I have never seen a home build aircraft that has impressed me more, those who told him 'It's Impossible' were right but he went and did it anyway, what an achievement! PS It looks Great!
OMG what can I say..... truly inspirational, to achieve whats possible, a man standing on a hill in a mountain of dreams, that became reality !!! Stay safe all the Best from Australia !!! :-))
@Mr Sunshines we don't need the anger it happens to be both a model and a functional aircraft its one third the size of the full size making it a model, a functional aircraft is by definition one that flies RC aircraft are functional, piloted aircraft are of course functional, making this a piloted model, and very impressive it is too. Stay safe and have a good day.
@Mr Sunshines in the intervening year you have only got a year older not wiser or more polite, you were debating as to whether it was a model or a functional aircraft I merely pointed out that it was both, without the immature name calling, however you reply I am done with you as you do not appear to have the capacity for rational discussion.
Two things first I'd be willing to bet that if a reputable company began building these to sell and sold them at a reasonable price, I bet they'd sell big time amongst the flying community. Maybe make it just a tad bit bigger so you can maybe have a copilot or even a way that one guy can even look down a bomb site or hell even have one seat in the tail just to get that feeling of what it would have been like to be in all alone in the back looking for enemy planes trying to down you. Most of those men never hit there quota and a lot of the ones who did were lied to and kept even longer because they couldnt afford to lose the experience and the man power. So messed up cause each of those men were not even with the same crews they started out with because they were either killed or wounded. Just a different bread of man. Second thing that's pretty neat, the model RC airplane community has just recently done something very cool. They're putting these cameras that swivel in the cockpit of there RC planes and using the VR goggles to look around and actually fly the plane and man does it look and feel like you're really flying a plane. One guy flies his b17 bomber and it's beautiful
Not the same to these, but I've had C-130s fly over my house every summer, always middle of June. When I don't catch them at my house, I see them fly over my school as I board the bus
1:50. With all of the enthusiasm for this fine aircraft, we would wonder if Mr. Bally would have appreciated a go-fund-me to set it up with some stronger engines. With Hirth engines at 4 x 45 horsepower = 180 horsepower and a ROC of 350 ft/min, that is quite short for the weight. It only needs some real radial engines 4 x 9 cylinders would give it some climbing moxie! Vernier Scarlett 9U for nearly 550 horsepower ! With those, it ought to climb like a homesick angel!
The B-17 had no armor like P-51's, or kind of protection a P-47 pilot got. The B-17 fuse was just thin steel maybe as thick as corrugated steel roof against flak and 30 MM cannon fire. It was a numbers game send 500 bombers if 400 returned it was a good day.
17 years of building a B-17. Beautiful.
i failed to make that connection ... good one.
I wonder what would happen for the B-52 !!! Cheers
The fact that it flies with a pilot and isnt just an RC plane...now THATS amazing!!!

My father helped design the defrosting system on the original B-17 in the 40s.

The B-17 is one if the most glorious planes to have ever been built and is a marvel of engineering. Amen to any man who flew them in Europe
I had an older friend who was a radio operator on a B-17. He became a POW & returned safely and lived to be 91.
They need a baby dressed in a pilots uniform hanging out by it.
He did an awful great job replicating the B-17 Bomber. Lots and lots of hours put into that project and one of a kind. Great job.
Awww... He looks just like his father. All praises to you, Bally!
Amazing. Couldn't believe it was a real aircraft in operation at first.
Now we need a mini Bf-109G for a Franz Stigler/ Charlie Brown re-enactment
Than that means we need a mini P-51 to escort the B-17
@@midgetman4206 I bet the Ball turret guy would really be small!
1/3rd scale it'd have to be RC.
@@SVSky I was going to say.
Amazing dedication and craftsmanship. Would love to see a mini Lancaster.
Jack Bally: happy little plane
Bob Ross: happy little trees
Happy little plane flying over the happy little trees.
😂😂😂😂
Awesome!!!! Thought it was a RC when I opened the video. this blows that away.
You know I hope someone is going to see this and start to build a small scale SR-71 Blackbird LOL. The B17 is amazing I love it!
Yes!
And still someone else will build a Klingon Bird of Prey.
1/3 of Mach 3 is still Mach 1.

Wow. Talk about a labor of love.
REAL engineering, and a great accomplishment. Just to hear the old ww2 pilots, greeting their old flame.
Absolutely brilliant! 👍👏👏👏❤
Great story, footage!
Rest easy, Jack ❤️
Holy Cow! You are AMAZING Bally!
Mr. Bally's B-17 is super awesome and an outstanding engineer and master craftsman Mr.Bally is.

Putting this on my bucket list
I was privileged to know Col. Bob Gideon, a B-24 pilot during WWII. He really lived.
Beautiful... absolutely Gorgeous!
Awesome! Looks a little tail heavy in flight, put 30kg in the nose and she will be pin sharp in the air. Super well done though!!
I took a flight when I visit in Oklahoma City. Never never forget that flight. Very exciting day for me. Tough airplane
I’m going to put this on my bucket list
What an amazing story. very inspiring.
Truly amazing job, that thing is awesome !
a work of engineering art.......
I wish someone would pump about 10 of these, in various models types, out of their pole barn every year. Lol
Superb. What a wonderful adventure, well done!
Stunning work.
What an amazing plane, more of those should be made...

One of the many things that make me wish I owned a pilots license.
You'll need your multi-engine land rating as well.
I love that obsession.
It would be very nice to see it fly along side of a full scale B-17 .
Nice job pal.
And what do you want for Christmas?
How can you not like this just a great story
Probably the best/only way for a PPL to fly a 4-engine aircraft.
you still need a multi engine for >1 engine, you ppl will say Single engine land.
