AMCAP is a wonderful little free utility. Not only does it allow video or still capture, but if you open it while another program is accessing the camera, it will complain that it cannot access the video stream when you select the camera, but it will still allow you to adjust the camera settings such as brightness and saturation etc. while the camera is in use by the other application.
Thank you 'MrTechPotato' for this video about the LifeCam VX-800 from Microsoft. I found it really useful, especially with regards to opening up that stand for the webcam. The leaflet did not show this. I have one question: is the microphone on it sufficient? Or, do I need to buy a headset? (I'm yet to use it to make a video call on Skype).
I have a brand new one and its awesome and so clear. The only problem I am having is that it wont work with Windows Live Messenger and I have no idea why? It used to work well with the older version of Messenger, but now there is not even a 'Video Call' option. I have settings correct and can see myself on it so it works but only on Skype and Facebook. Please help as I have a lot of family and friends on Windows Live. Maybe I have done somethings wrong. thankyou.
The FPS drops because in low light the driver increases the exposure time to compensate for the low light. If you want to have this camera work in "the dark" you will need to get an infra-red light source. In regular low light the camera outperforms any camera I have tested in it's price range.
The frame rate clocks in at about 4 fps no matter what lighting conditions I use, and the image quality isn't very good, but that's to be expected from a cheap webcam. It's definitely a case of "You get what you paid for".
Hey na i got a problem with that, since Saturday my cam wont be regonized by skype and teamspeake anymore... just for no reason. But its still listed in my hardware ..and it says it works perfect. But its not! Cann you gimmi a tipp?
@kylethehedgehog101 do you mean like use as a digital camera? try many-cam or a third part software to take snap shots . :) i can make a video for you if you need me to show you how to do it ...:)
I have it, and I like it for it is a cheap product for my camera need. BUT I hate it's night quality - which is baaad... normally it's on 8 FPS, but at night it drops down to 3 FPS and it starts to get a lot of noise on the picture. I now need to buy a night cam... :/

The built in mic is sufficient, although you may want to go into the audio properties and adjust the gain if levels are low or too high.

AMCAP is free, allows all necessary adjustments, and allows capture of live video or will also take still pics.
I use AMCAP to test video cameras, or to capture from them.
It's small, simple, and free.

i didn't know you could open the bottom and use it as a stand! I thought you had to get another stand to put underneath it!

@MrTechPotato I have a recording software that shows the FPS, also, you can simply record a video footage and then see how many FPS it has on it.
@denidude1 i might go with something a little nicer its smart for the long run.

I buy this webcam and I don't recommend , image is too saturate and we don't have a official Microsoft software to configure.

this is the worst webacm ever the frame rate is 3fps and not use able I have one of these the video quality is great for 640x480 just the fps sucks
