Such a cool instrument. It’s mind blowing how two drums can cover so much sonic ground.

So cool! great description and explanation. I simply love the tabla and what Zakir Hussein did with L.Shankar and John McLaughlin back in the day.

What a great video! So clearly explained step by step, building up to a great demo jam at the end. Tabla is such an amazing instrument, and so deep - Indian music in general is. Influenced Coltrane, the Beatles and tons of others. I hope this encourages more people to appreciate tabla or even pick it up to play.

    • @saarangnarayan123

A single SM57 will go a long way, but try a condensor mic a feet away from the Tabla. What you really want to avoid is the sound of the hand rubbing against the skins, which is rampant in this video here. Good luck!

Small diaphragm could condensers like the rode m5 might also work great but I haven't tried it so no guarantee.

I don't recommend the basic set, as it sounds awful. I have just bought the Meinl basic set and really regret it. The smaller one does not resonate well even after putting all the wood on it, and it does not sound at all like yours. The larger is ok, just ok. Honestly, I paid nearly 600$ for this and I really really regret it.
