    Episode Notes:
    1. Music for this episode -
    Opening monologue: Darkstalkers Arcade
Master System Segment: Phantasy Star II Genesis
    Genesis Segment: Aliens Arcade
Game Gear Segment: Road Rash SMS
Sega CD Segment: Robocop vs Terminator Genesis
    32X Segment: Rayman Jaguar
    Saturn Segment: REmake Gamecube
Dreamcast Segment: Daytona USA 2 Arcade
Ending monologue: Super Castlevania IV SNES
    2. Many of the games in this episode are still unreleased. Many of Sega's arcade games have never been ported to anything.
    3. Rayman did make its way to the Atari Jaguar. I assume it is what the 32X version would have sounded similar to.
    4. Some of the sound effects for Robocop vs Terminator were used from Terminator CD. You'll recognize a number of the death screams.
    5. I think Sega would have been wise to get Daytona USA on the 32X. It was a popular game and even stripped back, I bet it would have driven decent sales.
    6. Re-Loaded was also cancelled for the Saturn. It was the sequel to the overhead run n gun Loaded, one of my favorites.
    7. Capcom also considered porting Marvel vs Capcom to the Saturn, but with even the Japanese market plummeting, they moved the idea to the DC.
    8. There's loads of beta's out there for unfinished games. Most aren't all that great to play, but it's cool to see how far they actually got.

Given that they managed to make RE2 work on the Nintendo 64 of all things, I have no doubt the Saturn would have been able to do the game justice. A crying shame that it was never finished.

    • @galaxyforever10
      @galaxyforever10 2 года назад +4

@@Astfgl Exactly. The N64 had quite a lot of limitations as well, particularly in the audio department. The Saturn has CD quality audio so compression wouldn't have been needed. I believe it's 100% true that the Sony money was what they aimed for as by the time RE2 came out in 1998, a year later the Dreamcast was out. So they definitely did not care about the what would then be a last-gen console.

You're overestimating the Saturn's capabilities and underestimating the N64's. For the N64, considering only RE2, the only real limitation was the cartridge capacity and nothing more. The Saturn has many more limitations that would become apparent in RE2 and that most people don't realize. The lack of sound compression, low frame buffer size and separate main RAM pools would kill the port.

I'm not sure if either of the two games that I'm about to mention were actually in development or not as I only read about them.
One was Phantasy Star for Sega CD being developed at the same time as PSIV was being worked on for Genesis, but this was a standalone Sega CD exclusive game and not just a port of the Genesis RPG. It was said to be eventually be shelved in favor of focusing on finishing Phantasy Star IV.
The other was regarded as being called Phantasy Earth for Sega Saturn; in this case it was something the Diehard Gamefan was discussing in their rumors section, and since Gamefan was not always a reliable source of information (and that's an understatement) I couldn't really say with confidence if it was ever in planning stages.
In both cases such games could have been flagship releases for their respective consoles and I would have purchased them in an instant.
But the one that stands out the most may be for SNES as Super Kid Icarus was once mentioned using an upgraded Super Metroid game engine but it ultimately never came into fruition. Too Bad.

It's too bad the 32X got the shaft so quickly because there were some big titles on their way as seen in the video. If those would have been released along with the Neptune, the 32X may have ended up being at least a mild success. We never got to see the full potential of the hardware, not by a long shot. It had 256k Ram and VRAM (significantly more then the SNES had) and it was very fast for the time(23 MHz). Biggest problem with the 32X though is that it should have came out 2 or 3 years before it did. As impressive as it was, Saturn and PS1 hit the market at the same time and were way more powerful.

Ideally, 32X should have been released in 93 (preferably) or 94, and Neptune should have been an all-in-one console released soon after. You could either buy the add-ons separately if you already had a Genesis, or just buy a Neptune. By the time the PS1 came out, they would have probably had a good selection of big name titles. Despite being far less powerful, having a head start and some great games that took advantage of the hardware may have allowed them to compete against the PS1 during it's initial 2 or 3 years on the market.

Regarding Sonic the fighters, Bark and Bean made an appearance in Fighters Megamix on the Saturn along with their arenas. It looked really good. 👍 Surely the cancellation of VF3 on Saturn is the most heartbreaking tho?

Fan of the channel and some new info for me with this list but you missed by far the biggest one.
Lunar 3 for Sega CD. Hinted in the Lunar 2 Eternal Blue manual and confirmed by Vic Ireland of Working Designs more than once. Then nothing for Lunar until the unnecessary and inferior PlayStation/Saturn Complete Remake versions several year later followed by even worse, even less needed Remakes of Remakes and the death of the Lunar franchise, Lunar Dragon Song.
Lunar Silver Star and Lunar 2 Eternal Blue are to this day still my two favorite games of all time. It's a shame not many had Sega CD, so many missed out on the greatest JRPG series ever and Lunar fans deserved Lunar 3 and the story continuation from the end of Lunar 2 on one of the Sega Systems. Here's to hoping the Lunar fandom is successful in getting Lunar 3 made, pretty strong effort has been made the last year or so. So far the original composer of both Lunars, several of the main characters voice actors and a few former employees of Game Arts/Studio Alex/Working Designs are all on board, fingers crossed.

I like the ps1 versions better, especially for the first Lunar. But yeah, I wish we got a Lunar 3.

11:46 : Diablo was meant for the SATURN but was cancelled ??
You know , Diablo being released at Playstation was the *ONLY* reason i bought the Playstation over the Saturn !!
wow , how things could had end-up differently for me ....
Although i never regretted my decision ,since Playstation proved to be a great console , back then ,as a MegaDrive/Genesis owner and huge SEGA fan , i wanted to buy the Saturn , but the sole lack of Diablo ,was the catalyst which forced me to buy the Playstation...

Great video! I did NOT know that Halo was originally a DC game. No wonder I love it so much, and have always considered the Xbox to be the Dreamcast 2, and the 360 to be the Dreamcast 3. One I would add to this list is that the DC was the original console for Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. I have a DC magazine or game guide of some kind that has screenshots of it way before the PS2 game came out, one of my favorite games of all time. The remake is now available for the new systems so it's all good...but would've been a KILLER Dreamcast game.

Half life on dreamcast would've been big especially if it had multi-player.

There was a game called 90's Racer due out a few years ago that looked just like it but seems that got canned too
