  • Australian boat building company Riviera create some of the finest sports boats available and the Riviera 4800 Sports Yacht and the 5400 Sports Yachts are no exception. Boatadvice journalist Dom Wiseman recently had the opportunity to spend a day on both boats on Sydney Harbour. While the weather wasn't exactly great, Riviera's Stephen Milne was keen to take us through both boats post the Sydney Boat Show.
The 4800SY and the 5400SY exude a confidence in their design with quality finishes and classy interiors throughout. The single level living that both boats deliver suits our outdoor Aussie lifestyle down to the ground and both boats have large cockpit spaces to offer the outdoor element we crave. Entertainers will love the outdoor seating combined with cooking facilities all within easy reach. Both have a forward sunbed and the cockpit space but that is where the similarities end.
The 4800 Sports Yachts is obviously the smaller of the two boats and has a far more sporty feel all round. The nimble nature of the hull length is obvious when you step off the 5400 Sports Yacht onto the 4800. The 5400 Sports Yacht is larger, heavier and therefore steadier but is certainly no slouch. The boat really seems to rise and cut through waves due to the extra 5000 kilograms onboard.
Internally the layouts differ with the additional space in the Riviera 5400SY delivers a larger galley, more room in the saloon and a unique centre mounted helm position with berths located downstairs via a double stairwell. The 5400SY master is located amidships delivering a full beam room with ensuite. The 4800SY has more direct access to the master located in the bow. Room here is limited due to the nature of the bow pulling in but nevertheless is still spacious.
Our pick at boatadvice.com.au though is the 4800SY due to the sporty nature and more direct access below decks.

The sweeping panning motion of the camera is a bit dizzying. The transitions are also too quick. Nothing wrong with just a static cut scene. Otherwise, enjoyable watch.

I agree. The camera style is annoying and forced. Why they think it is trendy or clever is beyond me.
