Who tested this game? I did actually; I was one of the winners of the Call for Questions video competition and got to play a pre-Alpha version of the game, where I drove Melbourne and Istanbul. (And to my knowledge I'm still the first person to roll a car over in F1 2011) And yes, I did feel the penalties were bullshit, and I advised against rushing the safety car into the game incase it ended up being really buggy...Both of these complaints fell on deaf ears. Infact if you look at the first developer diary for F1 2011 I'm the guy in the foreground when they show a bunch of guys in a row on the wheels+pedals setup.
Edward Hunter How did you setup your wheel for F1 2011 ie feedback as I've never been able to get mine setup so I can race.

@Tulyar 10 To be honest I used an old Logitech Formula Force EX wheel, which was a few years old even by the time F1 2011 came out. The force feedback was never the greatest. I can't for the life of me remember my settings as it was so long ago, but I do remember having an awful time league racing on that game; I had an awful experience at the Nurburgring where my connection was so bad (And this was back when they still used Games for Windows Live for the F1 games) that I spent most of the race suffering intermittent screen-freezes. I ended up finishing last, nearly 8/9 laps down in a 100% race; at one point I even lagged out at a really bad time whilst being lapped and it caused someone else to crash into the back of me and end their race. I think F1 2011 was when I began to fall out with the Codemasters F1 games; I bought F1 2012 and F1 2013 but barely ever played online.
It's actually quite easy to roll your car over in the gravel traps with the right setup

Yeah it was my first F1 game too. I became so good at steering the cars in this game with a pad that I was never able to get used to it on it’s successors. I was only good again after I changed to a wheel in 2016.

I have that nostalgia with older F1 games. Those tracks like Korea, Buddh, Turkey, Valencia, Malaysia. Glorious V8. If only we've had these games made similar like current F1 games where you can develop your car or have driver transfers. How awesome this sounds.
I watched Indian Grand Prix. I went to watch it in 2011. It was cool. Our Govt fucked up and Indian GP was out otherwise you could see more overtakes than Hungry or Monza. Good old days

F1 2011 was my first F1 game. I couldn’t get used to the handling of the next games on the pad after I learned to play this. I played more than 20 seasons in career.
I know what you mean F1 2012-2014 are good games too for ps3 but i also prefer F1 2010-2011 games handling 👍🏻 but still the best f1 game for ps3 is F1 Championship Edition 👌🏻
The flashbacks are broken also in old grid. It's because you got faster PC and it's based on some hardware calculations
He's running the game above 60fps. Enabling vsync solves the flashback and the large head

F1 2011 was I think the greatest in car handling model in terms of pure fun coming from the game, at least from the 2009-2014 generation. What's more, as much fun as I had back in 2011, I think I found in 2019 and 2020.

I remember in career mode every race would automatically change to a new engine unit, and I had to skip the whole session just to change it back to the older engine

I'm still rocking my Xbox360, can't really afford all the latest stuffs yet so I go through and buy used CDs which ultimately got me started with this exact game this year. Even managed to find some old used logitech steering wheel recently for cheap and chipped that in with my brother lol still felt like that kid who just got his xbox 9 years ago and I love this game!

F1 2020 needs to get fan section in career where you can lose and gain rep from teams in such but you can also gain/lose fans.

This DRS in quali rule gave vettel almost all pole positions that season. the red bull was so stable with drs open, that they ran it through many corners, while others couldn't do it. 15 pole positions in one season is quite insane. Still a record. Vettel also won all indian grand prixs ever.
My first F1 game! This actually felt good in terms of graphics etc at the time. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Cucumber challenge was the best series ever hands down! Feels like it was yesterday I was watching it and that epic Malaysia career mode episode on F1 2013 wish I could of filmed my reaction watching it for the first time priceless!
The soundtrack to this game was outstanding.
Changes need to be made with the way races are started coming to a complete stop then starting the race im surprised drivers don't get hurt or killed. Plus it would keep the cars from getting damaged right off the bat .
I remember being SO excited for this game. It really was quite good, the only major shortcoming being the handling model. Codies were able to put the actual steering wheels in their respective cars instead of a generic one, way better graphics (although they were a bit too bright imo), time trials, red flags, safety car, more players in online, lots of improvements.
I actually had the opposite experience with the handling--I liked it in 2011, but in 2019 not so much LOL. Also, I think the helmet blocking the driver's hands was only an issue on the Red Bull in particular.
I think you can ask the same question about every F1 game that Codemasters have created. The only difference is that each time you pay a little bit more for these glitches.

Only the experienced know that you can break the rewind curse by immediately pressing rewind again when starting to play, it gives you the 3 seconds before the end of the original replay

Corner cutting didn't get penalised in the Rain. I remember just not breaking for the last corner in qualifying in Canada. Did the same thing in the dry race, instantly got disqualified

I bought this game because it was the only one available to play with a Nintendo.
I was 11 y/o, and I did not yet understand why it was the only one for Nintendo, well, when I started playing, I understood.
Just to give you the idea of the levels of bs that game reached, I'll tell you this anectode:
during the Indian Gran Prix, there was a bug, where when you went to the pits to change tyres, the game wouldn't let you change them and you wou just drive through the pitlane without doing anything.
I have no idea how I got those tyres to the end of the race, but then, after having finally reached the finish line, I got a 40 seconds penalty for "not changing tyres during the race"...
I didn't play much after that, still, I managed to complete (and to this day I still wonder how the heck I did it) a full year of career mode before quitting

Please don't blame testers for broken games. It's rarely, if ever, their fault. Developers rarely care for QA's opinions, and in a lot of cases QA is just straight up not allowed to give their opinion on gameplay decisions. (Example: My colleagues and I found an incredibly broken strategy for an online multiplayer game and the devs hit us with a, "That's not the way the game is supposed to be played." In our next in-house versus playtest we busted out the broken strategy and they got incredibly pissed off. They did fix the issue though) And a lot of issues in games are actually found by QA but aren't fixed for various reasons. And a lot of issues aren't found by QA because there are like 10-50 of us versus 100K+ on bigger titles.

The 107% rule are way older, like 1995 or so... I remember a team called Forti Ford, it was in the '95 'ish period. 10 seconds down on ONE lap. Simtek Ford wasn't much better :D
