I don't understand the hostility between AFL and NRL fans. There's more than enough room for both sports. Australia is now very much like America in that it traditionally has a big 4 sports (Cricket, League, Union and Aussie Rules instead of Baseball, American Football, Ice Hockey and Basketball) and soccer is now making headway as a 5th sport in both countries. There's enough fans who support some or all of the sports.

You blokes say they only play AFL "down south" but it's easily the most popular football code in the Northern Territory. In fact I heard recently that there are more AFL players than rugby union players in... yes, you guessed it... NSW
Yes, and every Victorian AFL fan absolutely despises the fact that Australian Rules Football is taking root in New South Wales, especially Sydney. They hate sharing their game and hate every single Sydneysider and Brisbanite for taking an interest. It's all 'this is OUR game, go find your own.' Australian Rules Football is a great game that deserved better people to create it. It would've grown exponentially larger if created in England, Europe, or the United States.
@@davidmurphy2903 What are you talking about? AFL fans love it, I'm Victorian and I love that interest for AFL is growing Brisbane and Sydney, so does every person I know. AFL, drop the ball as much as you like, play on with your foot on the boundary line, getting points for missing shots at goal that don't even have crossbars. AFL is the world's easiest football code to score.
@@SkyBlue-px1tc want to talk about an easy way to score? How about running into 68 metre wide, 11 metre long patch of grass at the end of the ground. 😂
@@fullstop7457 Then why are the scores in the hundreds in AFL lol?? NRL games score a quarter of the amount of points. Also a field goal is harder to score than any AFL goal. You have a crossbar to contend with and no points for missing.
@@SkyBlue-px1tc I know right. 😂 But jokes aside, it’s because AFL has more dynamic ball and player movement. It’s not locked down to a run forwards, pass backwards dynamic. Play can be quickly transitioned via kicks, marks, unrestricted running and, as you so helpfully pointed out, improvisation such as kicking the ball along the ground. This is shown in the average distance covered by players in each code. The average rugby player covers 7 KM whilst the average AFL player covers double that at over 14 KM.
Australia is just as responsible for popularising Rugby League if not more. Englands best players come to Australia, not the other way round. In terms of Australian History, Rugby was first played in 1839 while Aussie Rules was until 1859, so technically Rugby has longer roots in Australia than Aussie Rules. That said, I do appreciate the AFL.
Rugby has always been my number 1 but I used to love AFL as well. However I can't stand it anymore. I hate Victoria's claim on it, yeah it started there but get over it, it's called AFL now. Just a bit of banter I think. Most Australians love sport regardless of code, some sports take higher personal preference than others but as a whole we love all sports. I grew up in Melbourne in the 70’s & 80’s, so followed Australian rules because that’s what I was exposed to and it was a great game from the 70’s up until about 2010. Then with more tv coverage into Melbourne of rugby league, especially state of origin, I have grown to really like the game and actually prefer it to Aussie rules these days. They hate sharing their game and hate every single Sydneysider and Brisbanite for taking an interest. It's all 'this is OUR game, go find your own.' NRL games score a quarter of the amount of points.

But jokes aside, it’s because AFL has more dynamic ball and player movement. It’s not locked down to a run forwards, pass backwards dynamic. That said, I do appreciate the AFL.

We played it a little bit at school and I got to admit I really enjoyed it because I was really good at side stepping/ dodging on opponent. Not to mention I loved catching up to who ever had the ball then just wrapping them up and dragging them down. I got a buzz out that was fun.AFL if it keeps going the way it is, we may as well play netball. I’m over the rule changing all the fricken time and the umpires are getting to precious.
Don’t give up on afl it’s still the greatest sport to be played in man kind
@@ethandavies8989 cheers Ethan! True mate it is. The game is evolving all the time. And that’s fair enough. They want to protect the player. I want nothing more than that. I feel for the umpires as well because there trying there best. I really do think that umpires now like cricket should call for like the 3rd umpire for tricky decisions. Ok it mite slow the game down by 5 to 10 mins each quarter but it mite also make our players happier. There the ones that are suffering at the moment.
@@bradthurkle7217 their trying to protect the head so they dont have issues when their older
even if it's not your thing NRL is still a great sport that you should definitely give a try, the grand final rematch is on tonight
@@4KTUNCO shit. Really? Mite have a squiz. I got foxtel 👍

No AFL is the best

This is what I hate about NRL fans. They think they are the best. Both sports are great.
AFL use to be a great game its now over umpired and soft
It’s not but ok
Was AFL really created to keep yhe grass on cricket grounds trimmed during off season or is it a myth?
NRL is boring
Grew up watching both codes but AFL shits over NRL in more ways then one. And I grew up in western Sydney so NRL heartland.
Least AFL has momentum, In league play stops every 2 seconds while everyone hugs each other. Meanwhile your AFL players will belt up a field double the length at double the speed and climb a tower of 3 people to take a mark.
And then the ref will blow a whistle to stop the game and break everyone’s ears after each mark
@@mitchellsmith300 which mightn't happen for half an hour cause moving the ball down the field quickly is good. Also the amount of whistles and stopping is double in Rugby wdym. 80% of the time 80% of every rugby team slowly walks behind the action cause each side has to stop and go backwards a bit every tackle
@@Macro105 The average play the ball is 2 seconds so it doesn’t take long at all.
