    I had a guy screwing with me one day. A Texas State Trooper had this man in a Mustang pulled over. I jumped in the left lane to give them room as I passed by. About the time I got back over in the granny lane the Trooper had turned him loose. The Mustang jumped back on the highway leaving the trooper behind on the shoulder. The guy had been slowly catching up to me and was about 200 yards behind me in the hammer lane when he slowed down and stopped gaining any distance on me. After about five miles I see that I'm approaching another trooper with a customer on the shoulder. I turn my single on and the Mustang hits the gas. He accelerated until the Mustang was riding beside me. I realized he was purposefully not letting me over. I hit the brakes to try to slide in behind him and he matches my speed. So I never was able to get over for the vehicles. I didn't retaliate towards the driver for doing this. I never honked my horn or flipped him off. After we get past the cop he floors it and cuts me off then starts slamming on the brakes. He's flipping me off and slowing me down. I guess he was mad because I tried to get over for the trooper and he had just gotten a ticket. So I called the Texas Department of Highway Safety. I explained what was going on and told her it's the guy in the Mustang that y'all just gave a ticket to. She said they would send a car out. Eventually the Mustang goes on down the road and gets well ahead of me. The next thing I know here comes the trooper that had him pulled over originally and he's going over 100 MPH down the road. A couple miles later he's got the Mustang on the side of the road. That trooper is standing there leaning down into the driver side window with hands on his hips and that big hat pulled almost down to his nose like the Marines do. He's chewing that guy a new asshole. I'm sure he got another ticket. I just honked the horn as I went by, but this time I waved not using all my fingers. 🖕

    • @biglightball
      @biglightball 3 года назад

      Explanation is short and simple, but it was difficult and time consuming to work out these conclusions.
      Many people are technically and emotionally retarded. They don't use cruise control because it's too difficult for them, or their car isn't equipped with it and they can't maintain their speed by themselves. Literally they don't know how fast they want to go, their speed is dependent from their *momentary mood* and that's the first reason.
      Second reason is that momentary mood. They feel worse for many reasons: when they're behind someone, when there's some "better" car nearby (better may mean anything), when someone's driving faster or better - overtaking them, or just some other reason completely not related to their current road situation. They feel better by overtaking other cars, by slowing down other cars, or just straightly by pissing off other drivers. When they're in worse mood they tend to drive faster and when they're in better mood they tend to drive slower (except when they're intentionally slowing down others). They're pain in the ass for people correctly using cruise control.
      That explanation is very dry and short, but anyone who has driven for some years and has some hundreds of mi/km of experience - knows what I'm talking about.
      I started to notice that many people can't maintain their speed and that they speed is mood-dependent when I started driving with cruise control. I know very well how works that mood-dependent-speed-control because unfortunately I also got many different emotions on the road, but I can control my behavior and I control myself on the road precisely to NOT piss off other drivers and to NOT get involved in road rage. I value my life and life of my dear ones. Road rage is highly deadly phenomenon.
      You're right that therapy and some extensive education on how ego works is what many people need.

      I don't know if I entirely agree with you, but I can at least observe that many highway drivers with apparently low conscious situational awareness will nevertheless unconsciously pace whatever vehicle is nearest to them.
      This is stressful for the driver of that other vehicle, because what we have is a mini traffic congestion area, with all the risks of collision under short reaction window and limited choice of movement that entails. Other vehicles also overtake this group and add to the risk. And all the time, the pacing driver is unconscious of what they're doing. It's a motor vehicle offense nevertheless.
      Now, just imagine that the pacing driver is conscious and intentional, going out of their way to increase risk. That qualifies not just as a motor vehicle offense but as a criminal offense, and so it should be prosecuted.

      Ordinarily, most four wheelers pass by you, get on down the road, and you never see them again. Then, there are those other idiots that, 50 miles later, you say to yourself, “there’s that same four wheeler again, still in my line of sight.” Then I say out loud, “why do I keep seeing you??!!” No driving skills, that’s why.

    • @Faelandaea
      @Faelandaea 3 года назад +3

      That’s the safest thing to do, too. With winds and such sometimes a trailer can sway or something else bad can happen. As a driver I get nervous when people pace me or hang out at n my blind spots. It’s not that I find them irritating. It’s because I care and I really don’t want to see anyone get hurt. Add to that if MULTIPLE cars are around and one is hanging on n my blind spot, it could be a domino effect for disaster.
      One thing I do get very irritated at though is road rage using me as a tool. I see it all the time. Someone paces me to irritate a car behind them. They might think they are “showing them who’s boss”, but all they are doing is endangering themselves and others around them, including myself.

    Most drivers these days speed up when you attempt a pass. I'm ok with that as long as they don't slow down again a few miles later. 41 year down 7 years to go. I'm running from the industry. That’s my big question…why is it that most drivers feel a need to speed up when you start to go past them? Like you say, only to slow down again in a couple of miles. My pet peeve!
      I absolutely HATE that. Especially since it usually results in a bunch up of traffic on an otherwise open highway with no way around.
      My hats off to truckers. I sure do appreciate the truckers on the road. Thanks for what you do.

    • @SAT1337
      @SAT1337 3 года назад +1

      comeauxjc Because of ego, because they don’t want to “lose” in the “race”. Also because a lot of the times they’re distracted on their phone and hence start to slow down; they don’t realize that until someone tries to pass them which sorta ‘wakes them up’ so to speak. Not sure if what you’re asking was rhetorical but that’s my observation.

      @@tofupower64 it definitely annoys the heck out of me as well. Where I live there are signs everywhere saying no trucks in left lane and those @ssholes still get into the far left lane and obstruct traffic. For one I dont think I own the road, two, I don't go in the left lane where it says no truck left lane, three, if I cant pass without taking forever then I just don't pass. I work in the oilfield so I see first had what bad driving does. I'm not one of those truck drivers you speak of. I was talking about when I am driving my personal car in my previous post.

    With today’s technology there’s never a time when a four wheeler is going to win a fight against an 18 wheeler. Video evidence and instant 911 communications will triumph against dirtbag drivers. We only need to use it and be prepared to stop and show the cops the evidence. *I gas for break checkers.

      Even with video of them brake checking you, you still can't intentionally run into the back of them so it will also need to be clear that you didn't have a choice but to make contact with them.

    My truck will only do 70mph. On I55 I had a prick pass me, get into my lane then slow down, when I would get over to pass he would let me but then speed up and stay beside my trailer. He did this for several times over several miles. A driver behind me saw all this and radioed me to wait until he caught up. When he did he passed both of us and said to get beside the car, when I did the other driver slammed on breaks almost causing the car to hit him. After that the car slowed way down and didn't mess with me anymore. Don't mess with truckers.

    Love how the patrol took over the middle and left inside lane, thus blocking the guy in. The driver must have brake checked the officer behind him, which prompted the officer to turn his lights on. Brake checking is illegal. I have high respect for truck drivers, because it's one of the most stressful jobs out there. Knuckle heads like that driver just add to that mixture.
