There are some really fun games that you did not cover in this review, such as: Attack of the Mutant Penguins, Brutal Sports Football, Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tails, Cannon Fodder, Defender 2000, Evolution: Dino Dudes, Flip Out!, Missile Command 3D, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, Power Drive Rally, Rayman, Super Burnout, and Zool 2. It also has what many gamers consider the best home port of NBA Jam: Tournament Edition.

When the Jaguar came out in 1993 and for example with 1994 AvP it was
(and still is) a very great game. In 1994 many from my friends that seen the game were excited. The Us Marin have the longest journey. He have to collect few
stuff the helps him to escape and blow up the station.
The Predator comes for honor. He want to have the head of the Alien Queen for his livingroom. You can use your disguise but you can only kill with honor, so you cannot use your cover to kill. That s a nice concept.
As an Alien ... yes it is tough, but you can impregnation the UsMarin and if you die
will start on this point. At all you have to find and save the Queen.Still a very very cool filling to be Alien, the bad one, the hunted and hunter.(even more in 1994)
Okay there are no music in the game but it have sound backgrounds from machinery, air movements and other thing that makes a good and correct solution for the atmosphere and I like that.
Iron Soldier also a very good game. It is maybe not the best but if youll take your time to play youll see it is a lot of fun and really a great game experience.
Iron Soldier 2 on Jag or Jag CD is even better.
If you have no Jag at home you can play try Iron Soldier III from 1999 on PSX.
In one season you compare Doom 1 - just try the Jag Doom version and you will see.
    Other playable games are
Missile Command 3D ,Rayman, Battlesphere ,Atari Karts, Brutal Sports Football, Cannon Fodder ,Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Pinball Fantasies, Primal Rage, Soccer Kid ,Super Burnout, Syndicate
The Jaguar is not a super and successful console at all, but just to say in few minutes it is not good at all - it is for me very reckless and great pity.
Give it a try and more time... and try not to be conscious.
    Sorry for my English.

Tony Spike i havent really played many of the console ports of Doom... :/ i first played Doom on Xbox 360 which is a great port then i moved onto PC as i got a gaming PC, then i started to collect ports of Doom, and ive played the PS1 and PS3 versions of Doom and ive played the Snes and 32x versions on emulators and from what i can tell, the Snes version has awful graphics and bad frame rate but not unplayably bad, and the 32x version is sluggish but looks near identical to the PC version and runs at a very playable frame rate! :D although i understand most games run smoother on emulators... :/

    • @TonySpike
      @TonySpike 9 лет назад +2

i have played most of them on their original consoles and still own some of them, most 16 bit console ports were shoddy in comparison to the original weather by graphical omission, lighting error, smoothness issues, crappy music, or even that stupid border on the 32X version but its to be expected given the power difference between 16bit consoles and PCs of the era,
the best versions i have played on console are the versions packaged on the doom 3 disks on 360 and ps3 (take your pick they are identical and accurate) but the closest experience you could get back then was on the 32 bit consoles the ps1 n64 saturn 3DO and jaguar (before anyone says anything i know technically the jag was two 16 bit consoles bolted together but details details),
the less said about doom 64 the better, firstly its not actually a direct copy its more of a new game but overall i thought it was shoddy in too many respects and should have been better, it actually bored me in places
the ps1 version simply overwhelmed it not only in terms of accuracy and feel (witch goes without saying) but it wasn't quite their some lighting and textures were off thanks to texture shrinking and because its a port of ultimate doom they lost a few things here and their (no map between levels and no nightmare mode for example) and added a few things like a new chapter and a new score, all of these ultimately add up to merely a near perfect port of ultimate doom, and an imperfect port of the original
but the jaguar version got the lighting better thus setting the correct mood, it ran just as smooth and thanks to the unique pad selecting weapons was a lot easier and faster cos you dont have to cycle through all your weps to find the one you wanted just use the numeric pad,
only drawback is no music but i can put up with that since i always end up turning it off anyway despite how awesome the ps1 soundtrack is
its not perfect of course, some textures are off, and the room heights aren't as varied but it feels the closest and i enjoyed it more for that, i would get a jag even if the only game i ever got for it was this
i never played the saturn or 3DO versions unfortunately so i cannot comment on those
the only other 32 bit console i can comment on is the the GBA port but that came out in 2001 so dosnt really count,
its satisfying to play but even that omits some enemy's and weapons but at least they had the sense to release doom 2 separately,

    • @Cade_The_Squirrel
      @Cade_The_Squirrel 9 лет назад

The Jaguar was still a piss poor, over priced system folks. Just because it had like 3-5 good games doesn't justify a horrible price tag, misleading advertising, and a game library that rivals the Virtual Boy for size and quality. I was one of the few who had Metal Head for the 32x at the time (and apparently one of the few who know you can used digitized or animated graphics for the person giving you directives in your HUD), but Iron Soldier was the game I wanted Metal Head to be. I mean, I fucking love Game Sack, as they give their uninfluenced, honest opinion on games. Even if I don't agree with them sometimes, I highly respect what they say, as they are gamers who're expressing their take on games that THEY grew up playing. They didn't put as much effort into their Jaguar review as they did for other systems they reviewed. They skipped (or didn't have) quite a few of the better Jag titles like Rayman or Power Drive Rally and the footage from T2K looked as if they only spent five minutes playing it. Compared to their other system reviews, this is the worst one, I think.

    • @regularsharp

      mjaap The BETTER Jaguar titles!?

The Jaguar sucked! That's the point!
Rayman? That was mutiplat, and Power Drive Rally wasn't that great! It was a glistening turd among a pile of lesser turds.
If this was their worst review of a console, I'll grant them artist credit, as their, as you imply, 'lack of effort', translates to what we were given by Atari: a lackluster console.

The guy was claiming that Tempest 2000 and Iron Soldier proved that the Atari Jaguar was more powerful than the Saturn. Is that some sort of joke?? Tempest 2000 may be the best game, but it doesnt look like its that hard to achieve. I mean Iron Soldier uses absolutely no use of textures or anything that the Saturn could do! I mean Saturn had a wide variety of more advanced and fun games. I think that guy knew that the Jaguar's games sucked too, he was just to afraid to admit it.

SonicBoone56 It wasn't *just* memory limitations. It was the way the hardware was put together. Doing true 3D texture mapping was an incredibly slow and tedious processing gambit. That's why you only see it in the 2D shooters and 2D fighting games. Most of the 3D polygonal games have flat shaded models.

Atari Jaguar was truly a 64 Bit system.
Jaguar had huge potential. It's memory path was 64Bit.
Why it Failed? The Tramiel's sucked at marketing and were very cheap.
Also everyone can thank Atari for better Video cards because back in the day it was all about sound and CPU speed and Atari proved at CES that the Graphics processor was important in games, They tested a demo against Sony and Nintendo and won hands down.
Few quality Software developers backed it.
Rayman rocked and was ported to Playstation, UBISoft was finished with the game but waited almost a year before releasing so they could release it with the Playstation.

You should do a follow up to the Jaguar as a lot has happened over the past 8 years since your last review. Lots of great games (Defender of the Crown, Rebooteroids, etc) have made their way to the console. It's a great machine.
Then again, I thought it was great back then. I am not sure how old you guys are, but you do not look old enough to have owned the Jaguar at launch. If I am wrong, sorry. But, anyone who purchased this at launch and eventually got their hands on Tempest 2000 and AvP were really impressed. I know I was. The visuals, sounds, etc could not be done on systems of that time at least on these titles, and I was stoked to own this console (purchased on the NY test launch day) and was really hopeful of the future. It didn't pan out then, but we are getting our just desserts now in the way of "homebrew".

I am a die hard Atari fan. Do you know what I have say to your review? You're right. The Atari fans will say It was used to its potential.
Business wise, the market was saturated. PC's (and Apple, Amiga) were really ramping things up enough to be considered consoles. Consoles that also have porn, and can balance a checkbook.
As a consumer, I was in my Early 20's in this era. I was totally confused. SEGA, NEC, and Atari to a lesser extent. You get the system, but now you need a 32X, or a multitap for TG16. You have to get the CD too!
If I were a parent (back then), I would go right to Nintendo. Console, TV, Games. Simple. The kid will be happy. Everyone will know exactly what the kid has, and can gift them the right type of games.
The Genesis started out the same way as Nintendo, but got all freaky. Only a fanboy, or one with disposable cash could keep up.
It sounds harsh, or that I'm not a SEGAboy. I am. These are just facts from the times. The Dreamcast is my third favorite of all time.
NEC was the bright star over shadowed by 2 other lesser bright ones. Too many shooters, but Japan still play 16 bit shoot them ups! NEC was much bigger elsewhere. I loved that it was simple, and I hate it for that reason too. You have to add everything on, as it is setup for one person. Then, the enhanced video pack...
Atari. Oh my beloved Atari. You were essentially a one hit wonder of cart/CD based consoles. The Jag with CD is a toilet. Edgy commercials, fuzzy math can not fool the kids trying out this stuff in stores.
PC gaming hit big. I bought my first computer, as opposed to building my own. The amount of things to make games better, or faster is like worse than all consoles together. I once bought a game I loved so much (POD), I spent money for an MMX, and 3d video card. $500 to play one game. I was a sucker.
By the time the 90's were over, the market got less confusing. The top three are doing well, and the prices could not be better. That $200 Atari Dad got us would be around $700 today.
I am afraid this gen might be the end of the console as we know it. The Vax Cat is back, that is to say Terminal based gaming could be the future.
    Great Episode, as always.

i didnt really care too much for the video review of the Jaguar. it was unfair and biased. you picked the absolute worst games from its library (except for tempest 2000) and you went in with the mind set that Jaguar sucks. there are much better games on the Jag like Rayman which was made FOR the Jaguar initially and then ported to everything else. there is also Battle Morph, Defender 2000, a near arcade perfect port of Primal Rage, Zool 2, and many others. you also failed to mention its cult following and afterlife and that its still receiving content even in 2016. there has been a remastered version of Another World, Barkley Shut up and Jam (which blows the genesis version away), Zero 5, Iron Soldier 2, the ST ports from Atari age like Joust and Moon Patrol, new projects like Rebooteroids, a doom 2 conversion just many many more things. The Jaguar was Underated, the controller is comfortable in contrary to what you said about your thumbs hurting. It did have a lot of crappy games and most were in it's initial lifespan but all consoles have some crappy games. If you want to review the N64 im pretty sure you're not going to include Superman 64 in that review. im just saying....

Sorry but, using 'biased' as a complaint isn't really warranted after you went off into detail on what you thoughts are the positives of the system, which in turn made YOU biased. Which means people should stop using 'biased' as a complaint as people will biased on something anyways regardless. Also, those positive games you mentioned weren't available for them to review. And saying that the Jaguar controller is uncomfortable is not wrong, it's just personal preference and taste.

I remember buying that at a flea market a year back for about 4 dollars and it feels like a waste to me. It's a shame you guys didn't mention Rayman, as nobody seems to know that this was ported to the PLaystation and Saturn from the Jaguar. I'm sorry. I will rant be forewarned. mind You I am a 42 yr.old gamer, so I've witnessed the whole evolution. Also I collect gaming systems, I am familiar with what they can do. I am sick of the Jaguar getting knocked. mind you Atari was financially strapped at the time, it was a wonder they even released a system at all. Atari was tiny compared to Sega and Nintendo juggernauts. I find this Jaguar review simply amusing considering they miss a lot. First, cybermoroh was originally programmed in 91' to be released in the Atari Panther that was never released. So it existed wayyyyy before star fox. cybermorph is free roaming, unlike starfox. so considering cybermorph should have been ouy way earlier and was ahead of its time WHEN I was originated in 91'. Second, really mocking A vs.P? what where these two playing in 94 in s nintendo and sega cd? A vs.P was far more advanced than anything out at its release. compared to today, yes its boring. In 94' it was wayyy ahead. third, tempest 2000 is confusing? dude learn to play the game when you review it. there is a jump power up that lets you jump over grabbers. that's part of its charm. oyyy not to mention its famous soundtrack. fourth, iron soldier. really? think metal head is better? yes it had texruring but chugs along in a smaller play field. IS is slow playing but smoother and in a larger sandbox. I guess thats a matter if opinion. Jag had plenty of other decent games, Missle command 3d wich was to be compatible with a VR helm, Battlemorph, a greatly improved cybermorph, Burnout, Battlesphere....amazingly games are still being released for the Jaguar through homebrews. I just get sick of Jaguar knocking for fan boys.

+Kevin Strade It's called an opinion. Theirs differs from yours. In fact , yours is the ONLY positive comment about the Jag. Before your fanboy rant escaped you, maybe you should have thought it could be your opinion that's in the minority? I had a Jag. Tempest was boring, A v P was the only game i enjoyed but it still sucked and Cybermorph is still the worst, most annoying, tedious, repetitive piece of garbage i've ever played. (where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive, where did you learn to drive). The Jag was a complete waste of money and it's failure is no shock at all. But then, that's Atari for you. They could do shit first maybe. But 6 months later, everyone else can do it better.

Found this channel a few weeks ago and immediately subscribed. Great content Joe and Dave. Joe, in tempest 2000 getting the weapon power up and sitting still when one of the red enemies flips onto your lane is nearly a guarantee it'll be destroyed.

Seanbaby put it best when he said that Club Drive "stole most of its code from Dolphin Adventures in Tuna Net."

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but Darius Plus is not expensive; 1941 is nearly $200 complete and Darius Alpha (of which there are apparently only about 1000 copies) is nearly impossible to find and far more expensive. I know because this episode influenced me to get the system. Thanks guys! I think....

Nice to see that the stage level shown first for "Fight for Life" on the Jaguar is actually Angkor Wat in Cambodia.

I look forward to your game reviews so much. They are so informative and entertaining. Coming from a fan, I really appreciate all the hard work that you guys put into production and editing. I know it isn't easy, but thanks to all of your hard work, you have one of the best classic game channels on RUclips - bar none.
