I don't know if there's any chance that I'll ever be a Presbyterian (I'm an Eastern Catholic by baptism) but you are really showing us the most beautiful side of it with almost every video. I am a very "private" Christian who has had very little affection to church and worldly Christian structuralism lately but your videos brought me closer to starting to accept the concept of "church" again than anything else I've experienced during the past 5-10 years. Glad you’re watching Reformed Forum! You should have a discussion with Lane Tipton, he’s incredibly helpful on these topics, and in my opinion one of the greatest current expositors of orthodox Reformed theology . A few things, Van Til had Dutch Reformed roots but he was ordained in the OPC, so he didn’t just influence Presbyterians, he was a Presbyterian. Barth isn’t truly Reformed (or Christian in a sense of orthodox creeds and confessions), he rejected any true “revelation”outside of Christ, and that Christ and God exist in an atemporal and ahistorical state known as the “Christ event” where God takes temporal aspects into his being, and this encompasses the revelation of God to man. The influence of Thomas upon the Reformers and Reformed Scholastics is greatly overstated by some of the current “Reformed Thomists”, actually reading Calvin, and scholastics like John Owen and Petrus Van Mastricht paints a very different picture of what they thought of his theological methods, they’re far more critical than you would be led to believe.

      As much as many protestants don't want to admit it, Protestantism (especially reformed prots) all come from Catholicism. Without the Catholic philosophers and theologians there wouldn't be any protestant groups. In that regard Protestants obviously should include Catholic thinkers in these types of discussions as even if the thinker in question isn't protestant their writings may have been highly influential to Protestantism.

      @@sadscientisthououinkyouma1867 Yeah, definitely dealt with the whole "You worship Mary" thing. I'm not worshipping Mary. If you want to think so, you're welcome to."
      Interestingly enough, though, I've only really seen it on the internet. I live in rural Texas, very Southern Baptist area, and everyone is pretty cool with the fact that I'm Catholic. In his writings Van Til robustly affirms natural revelation. He just rejects appealing to nature as though it was a neutral fact that believers and unbelievers could come together and use a neutral and unfallen “autonomous” reason to determine its meaning. All facts are God’s facts, and we should be conscious of that when interpreting them, our knowledge must be thought of as analogical or we can’t know things “meaningfully”, in the sense that it is not being thought of correctly as a derivative creation of the Triune God that is revelatory of Him. Along with Calvin Van Til affirms the sensus divinitatis, God has given man an internal revelation that reveals God’s existence and nature to us, but fallen man suppresses this truth because of the noetic effects of sin. Van Til also robustly maintains the creator-creature distinction at all levels, the ontological self-contained Trinity is his starting point and therefore he guards against any form of mutualism between the creator and the creature, which Barth fails to do.

    Genesis states that Adam was naked but after eating the fruit became aware of his state. When God asks who told him he was naked he does not correct them or state they should return to a naked state. No, he kills an animal to create coverings for them. Adam’s guilt comes through his knowledge. Capable of being naked but unashamed his nature needed the incarceration to bring his shame into right standing with God.

    I'll get hate for this but who cares right? There are no religions, Jesus is the only way. There is no trinity as the father, son, and holy Ghost are all different ways in which we can describe the Lord. The same way God can be everywhere is the same way he could possess flesh and be sinless while looking from heaven unto earth. Follow only the Bible, read ALL books of the Bible, not just the 66 that the catholic church took out because the rest provides content that debunks the trinity. The Lord loves you and all his heart is quick to forgive, and slow to anger, his love you is boundless and he is understanding. God bless.

      @@lesinge8868 it isn't, it was preached and taught in the bible before ANYTHING else, Catholicism is a religion. That professed there were three gods, father son and spirit, which are all spirit which makes no sense but ok, anyway read Ecclesiasticus, there's a scripture there that literally says the lord CANNOT be a man. Jesus Was not a man in the natural sense, Jesus/God is simply himself taking on a fleshly form, and that flesh or sacrifice is named Jesus Christ, simple. Bod bless.

      I'm pretty sure all that does is make the immigrants' descendants less Christian rather than them making us more Christian in the long run. Most people lament 2nd gen+ immigrants losing their cultural heritage, but many don't like to talk about the religious heritage that gets lost too (regardless of religion), especially if they are coming from a historically religious country. Not against the idea of them sending missionaries to evangelize and church plant in the US though.

    Adam was always in need of grace; it's just that he received grace from the first moment of his existence. He lost that original grace for both himself and his descendants.
    Before the Fall, Adam was perfect for what he was created to be. The Incarnation wasn't necessary for anything other than our salvation from this fallen state, which itself was not necessary. As the Exsultet says more poetically, the sin of Adam brought about the plan of salvation and through that salvation, our race winds up even better off than we started.

      I also think that the Son must have received his nature from the Father, since the Father begat the Son and to beget is to transmit your nature to the begotten. The begetting of the Son, however, necessarily follows from the fact that God is love (love requires a lover and a beloved).

    I’m not hating on Christianity or anything but why would an omnibenevolent being send people to eternal torment and not like in other religions just enough torment for the sinners karma to burn away?

    • @Anthony-sm8wy
      @Anthony-sm8wy 10 месяцев назад +6

      The best I’ve heard it described is that God doesn’t send anyone to hell, they go there by their own choice.

    • @jdotoz
      @jdotoz 10 месяцев назад +3

      The difference between salvation and damnation ultimately boils down to the choice between God and not God. This choice becomes permanent at death, by our nature. Our nature is also such that nothing but God will satisfy us, but for those who choose non-God, being with God would be even worse than the eternal disappointment of lacking God. So for these people, the eternal suffering resulting from their choice is the best that can be done for them.

    • @jonaszswietomierz8017
      @jonaszswietomierz8017 10 месяцев назад +7

      Because we don't believe that good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell. Christianity is a wildly different religion from others. Also, nobody deserves hell or heaven per se, as the previous commenter said, you end up there by your own volition. Look at it this way: if I told you're going to die unless you take a specific medicine or treatment, and if you refuse to take it, you don't deserve to die but your body will wither away anyway because you didn't take it. However, if you listen to the doctor, you're going to receive proper care. It's similar with the Gospel.
