      One of the things what annoyies me the most. Star Wars ships have so many weapons and use just a few at all on screen.

      Sim. Frischh the Supremacy is one of the worst looking spaceship that I've ever seen certainly the worst one in Star Wars

    • @sim.frischh9781
      @sim.frischh9781 6 лет назад +14

      Tastes, Sammy. I generally dislike asymmetrical designs.
      The Supremacy looks more like a flying wing design for atmospheric flight.
      You know, B2 like.
      But i agree, Star Wars ships often seem to stay behind what they should be capable of, same with the Jedi.
      In the novels the force allows so many uses yet they get defeated by random grunts easily.
      After all, in the end what is most important is story plot and looks on screen.

    • @sammywhite5127
      @sammywhite5127 6 лет назад +2

      Sim. Frischh I can't think of an example of a Jedi going down to a random grunt unless they were severely outnumbered or the occasional unpredictable surprise attack also while the first does have many uses and can be incredibly powerful it doesn't make Jedi invincible

    Not going to lie- the concept of the Supremacy as being an all in one shipyard, capital, and weapon for the first order is actually pretty cool. Like he said in the video, no worrying about supply lines. You wouldn't even need to worry about concealing your location, since you can move within hours, long before any attacking groups could muster against you.

    • @dianapennepacker6854
      @dianapennepacker6854 Год назад +5

      I'd call it an Ark Ship. Basically a space faring faction moveable capital. As far as super weapons go this is the best one overall.
      Starwars never made a lot of sense when it comes to combat. From the strategic to the tactical level, and definitely not in ship designs.
      I feel like weaponizing warp drives literally makes every freaken super weapon in the world obsolete and archaic. Literally the worse choice ever and shit needs to be retconned. No need for anything but a hyperspace engine and some mass with sub light engines and a navigation computer. Bam you have a missile that can destroy anything.

      I love the ship’s concept too, though could use a few design edits. My main problem with the ship is that the FO is being too OP for a remnant faction having such a ship, let alone Star Killer base

    • @therealspeedwagon1451
      @therealspeedwagon1451 9 месяцев назад +2

      Juggernauts are such a cool concept for a ship, unfortunately the First Order used the Supremacy so poorly. They could’ve crushed the Resistance in one fell swoop had they even used all the weapons on board this thing, let alone the power it has simply being a mobile shipyard.

    • @VegetaLF7
      @VegetaLF7 6 лет назад +4

      Admiral Ackbar, the one Rebel who would most likely know what they're actually called, specifically refers to the Executor as a Super Star Destroyer during the Battle of Endor. He orders the fleet to "concentrate fire on that Super Star Destroyer" in an attempt to take it down. The Star Dreadnought thing was a later change, and while technically more fitting of ships on the scale of the SSDs, they are still known by that first name.

    The last jedi hurts, especially due to the absurdity of the ship chase. They create these immense specs for all the first order ships, with these huge fleets of TIE fighters and yet all we get is 3 fighters attacking the Raddus before pulling back because they were getting out of range? Who cares? Throw a couple thousand TIEs at them. Not to mention the resurgent Class star destroyer is suppose to be able to get up to speeds comparable to a TIE. Oooooooor have more than 3 of the thousands of turbo lasers firing at once. Not to mention that by just upscaling everything with the supremacy they made the normal resurgent star destroyer do absolutely nothing which is sad because they are really cool and seeing them in action is something I was really looking forward to from TFA. There are just too many holes in their own internal logic of the movie to justify this piece of shit chase. It seems that Disney puts out these Specs to get people excited about what this COULD mean for the movies rather than what it DOES mean.

      bullscott12: They could have simply have one or more resurgents do a micro jump ahead and fly back. Their only job would be to damage the Resistance' ships engines and everything would have been over. To bad the First Order didn't hide a Interdictor Cruiser or two away or two thirds of the movie would have been over within ten minutes.

      The first surprise attack destroyed the Resistance ability to scramble fighters... so... heck swarm them with TIE fighters. So what if you lose some to the turbolasers and laser cannons... That is why you have fighters and bombers.

      +TheVeritas1
      Obviously, if such method was possible it would make sense that lightspeed battering is possible, however, what constitutes as bad writing is allowing such a method to be possible in the first place. Why? Because Star Wars has a history. Lot's of it in fact and the fact that no one has developed hyperspace ramming weapons in the first place is a plothole within itself. Why did the Empire build a moon-sized superweapon when they just could of had used hyperspace ramming tactics to obliterate any planet they wanted? Why did the rebels not use this tactic against the Death Star? Why did the rebellion not use Hyperspace ramming weapons against Star Destroyers? Why did the Rebellion not employ a 'Kamikaze" doctrine on its fighter pilots when they suffered irreparable damage? Making each of their fighter pilots a Hyperspace Ramming weapon because all X wings have a hyperspace engine on it.
      Point is, this pandora's box should of have been left closed as it invalidates every single space battle till this point.

    • @TruePacifist201
      @TruePacifist201 6 лет назад +4

      If you go from Canon it has a higher crew complement, but in Legends/EU the first Death Star actually had the higher crew compliment: 2.4 million (excluding 400,000 droids) for the Death Star vs 2.2 million (including however many droids the First Order actually has in its service). The ship (mobile space station) is obviously a manifestation of Snoke's massive ego.

      Sounds reasonable by comparison but in this timeline ( I mean by the time I'm writing this), the large and mobile structure of Supremacy would serve as a mobile shipyard (can literally make a fleet out of it.), a seat of power and also a formidable dreadnought..

  • @TacSon
    @TacSon 6 лет назад +71

    Meanwhile in the EU, the Eclipse has over 10 gravity well projectors and for some reason, this supposed to be the flagship of the supreme leader of the First Order, the Successor of the Empire didn't even have a single one on it to prevent ships from escaping and ramming it with lightspeed.

    • @ConnorNotyerbidness
      @ConnorNotyerbidness 6 лет назад +3

      Tac Son because that was eu. Not canon. In the canon the interdictor project was cancelled before a new hope due to high yield cost and ultimately being inefectual due to multiple failures in combat (see rebels for examples) And dont say "but there were interdictors at endor" canon as far as weve been told no there were not.

    • @TacSon
      @TacSon 6 лет назад +3

      Yeah and they had all that budget to build a bigger Death Star with no ships defending it, only to be blew up by a single fighter. Too much for a successor.

    • @ConnorNotyerbidness
      @ConnorNotyerbidness 6 лет назад +2

      Tac Son what does that have to do with not having interdictor tech exactly? And while the planet itself is bigger yes the whole of the mechanisms for starkiller base was no doubt on a whole Smaller

    • @TacSon
      @TacSon 6 лет назад +2

      What does that have to do with not having interdictor tech? They have bigger star destroyers than the ISDs used by the Empire, they have a Death Star 3.0 that can obliterate an entire Star System. They have Stormtroopers equipped with better gear wise than the ones from the OT. They have bigger and better armored AT-AT's than the old ones, and even a huge ass Battle Ram which is a ground version of the Death Star. And If you played that crappy LootboxFront 2 game, in the DLC, the First Order has enough ship to overrun the entire New Republic. That alone has proven that these assholes learnt from the flaws of the Empire and improved upon anything the Empire did in the past, and they have the resources to build all these things in great quanity. So not having the Interdictor in their doctrine just because they are expensive is a bullshit excuse because as we have already known budget isnt a problem with the First Order. They are meant to be the successor of the Empire, there is no logical reason for them not to employ these ships in their fleet. So you say Interdictor got scrapped away because it got fucked in combat? Because Interdictor was not meant for frontal assault or ship to ship combat, it was meant to be a support ship! Do you understand the concept of it? Now take away the 2 huge ass cannons from the Dreadnought and replace them with 4 gravity well projectors and tell me if its gonna make a huge difference? Absolutely hell nah, because the Dreadnought was supposed to be a support ship as well. And you see what happened to them when they charge forward into enemy fire? They got fucked! There's many reasons why people don't send aircraft carriers and artillery leading a frontal assault. As clear in Rebels you can see Thrawn was using the Interdictors effectively. Even a casual player of Empire at War knows how to use an Interdictor properly. The New Canon is a mess, and this movie itself alone has left a bigger hole in the entire franchise than a Sarlacc pit on the Dune Sea. All of the things I just listed wouldn't even matter anyway because there is no logical places to apply any of these points in the movie because it failed at it. There is literally no consistency in this movie.

    • @ConnorNotyerbidness
      @ConnorNotyerbidness 6 лет назад

      Tac Son i was more going for the fact the project was shut down so long ago theres no guarantee that the group that formed the first order had access to the tech. Remember it wasnt the full empire that went into the unknown regions. Im saying its entirely possible they were at least still trying to replicate the tech. Cause again. No guarantee there was anyone involved in the project that left with them into the Unknown Regions
      Oh and yes i know interdictors were great support ships. The empires inability to use them correctly or effectually if anything just furthers the theme of the empire being blowhard morons who underestimate the huge impacts smaller ships or smaller groups of people could have

    It is worth noting that the Raddus' hyperspace ram did not destroy the Supremacy, but merely crippled her. Supremacy was still capable of launching the ground invasion of Crait and providing air cover, however limited.

    • @SorenNido

      Grand Admiral Thrawn To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if the ship was still space worthy after the attack, its just has so much mass and has the thrusters spread out neatly across the wings. So theoretically the ram attack could result in ⅔ of the ship still being capable of taking on most fleets

It’s kinda a shitty long term solution and you need to convince people to kill themselves. Also to do that kinda damage you’d need a massive ship, like real big. No tie fighter is gonna cut it

    Creating a swarm of fighters large enough to threaten capital grade shields..... Well 2 ties took out the Raddus's bridge, and on their third pass no less, this is after Kylo blew up the (only?) hangar bay rendering the vessel untenable. Why did they keep up a barrage that was pointless when a swarm of 50, not multiple thousands of fighters, could overwhelm and destroy the ship and it's lackluster escort in a few short passes. I won't accept the acceleration differences as an explanation as kylo literally flew circles around them once they were in retreat.

    • @dreadnought-ai
      @dreadnought-ai 6 лет назад +3

      willj78 - yeah that was really weird, suddenly introducing the concept of Fighters having a "operational range" from which beyond the capital Ships can't "support them".
      While I understand the idea that Tie fighters work best with capital ship support, but surely sending a massive death swarm would be more effective than the long range cannons, which I'm sure are great in a supportive/suppression role but were obviously not doing enough damage on their own.

    I honestly don't have a problem with the size or the "all your eggs in one basket" aspect of the ship's use so long as it's location is kept secret it massively reduces the defensive commitment the First Order has to leave to protect their capital. What I do hace a problem with is how the hell could they manage to build it and Starkiller Base and an 8km dreadnought and hundreads of Star Destroyers that dwarf the Imperial Star Destroyers many times over when they're supposed to be so much weaker than the Galactic Empire built up in the unknown region with almost no preexisting settlements, industry or infrastructure in just over 30 years. That simply isn't happening.

Unless hyperspace goes trough another dimension (we know from han that it does not, you can still hit an asteriod), it makes perfect sense that a huge projectile going at many times the speed of light, hitting something else, would cause tremendous damage.

    Doesn't need complex supply lines? Where does it get the raw materials for its industrial capacity? The fuel (which is an issue in SW now) to keep this ship and its entourage moving? Food and other consumables for the massive population? The Empire's ability to field and maintain its massive ships, fleets and Death Stars was predicated on the Empire's infrastructure and economy to fund its massive war machine (assuming that was even tenable in the long run). The First Order should have bankrupted itself building the Supremacy and Starkiller base, though for some reason AFTER Starkiller base was destroyed the galaxy capitulated to the First Order en masse, though it was only a day or two, not long enough to take over the economy of the Republic. Whatever though. Nothing in TLJ made a lick of sense anyway.

Bringing new "features" into the series, which were either not thought possible (hyperspace-kamikaze was never used in any movie/series/book/comic etc. and was therefore thought not to be a working strategy) or contradicts the source material (turbolaser bolts never dropped down, why do they now? I was always curious why we never heard from the supremacy ever again, despite being bisected near the end of episode 8, no part of it was irreparably damaged to the point that it couldn't feasibly become operational again. The unreasonably massive starship was merely turned into a marginally less unreasonably massive starship and an obscenely large starship. The supremacy is by and large constructed like a city, with many zones that could operate independently of each other in a pinch. Aside from a wonky center of thrust I see no reason that the large section couldn't remain functioning as normal. And the smaller section, though maybe needing an impromptu bridge installed, could feasibly be built back up into working condition with relatively little trouble.

      Zoll of Tokarga You are probably right. Every one of us has more love for the source material than any of this marketing influenced writers. It reminds me of those yuuzhan vong books, where Ty killed Chewbacca and later Anakin Solo both in a really stupid way and Anakin even "off screen". The argument back then was that the readers would not be able to tell them both apart. I stopped reading star wars books back then.

      To those wondering, I’m pretty sure the OP isn’t talking about the Rebellion or Resistance building a Mega-class analogue. I’m pretty sure they’re just talking about using a ship in such a role as the Supremacy did. Though to my knowledge, the Rebellion did this almost exact sort of thing. Don’t forget about Phoenix Squadron or Home One.

    For all the effort of creating Star Killer Base the First Order could have easily built like, 10 or 20 of these and been completely unstoppable. Except for that whole lightspeed ram thing. I guess this is just the kind of BS that you get when you make your new series without any overarching goal or predetermined endgame in mind. Freaking Disney.

      all the EU cases had the ships drop from hyper space. Galaxy gun? missile dropped from hyper space prior to impact. the executor and those star destroyers? they dropped from ftl prior to impact. the malevolence never opened a hyperspace window prior to hitting the moon the EU never had a ramming that happened at ftl like 8 did.

  • @davidcolby167

    All these comments talking about this awesome ship being "destroyed" in the Last Jedi confuse me...considering how it's clearly...not? It has a wing shot off. It's hit by a capital ship going to lightspeed and it still manages to not only NOT instantly vaporize, but it also maintains enough control of the orbital situation to deploy an entire army, including an experimental siege weapon to crush the last remaining members of the Resistance.
    Also, I've never understood why the lightspeed ram "doesn't make sense."
    So, here's what we know about going into lightspeed from the movies (and if I'm contradicted by some book or bit of video game, then that's...just...the way that multi-platform media works, doubly so when you don't have a strict bible.) In the first Star Wars movie ever, Han Solo talks about how you need to be careful with lightspeed because you may return from hyperspace into a star or planet. A navicomp or astromech is required to navigate from system to system. Next, ships clearly start out in physical space, accelerate, then drop into hyperspace, then when they arrive, they decelerate out of hyperspace and back into physical space.
    Now, this means that the lightspeed ram has several strategic drawbacks.
    1) It cannot be used at range. Any number of gravitational or dark matter blockages between you and the target will destroy your ship. Hell, even using it at moderate range would be dubious, since at SOME point, ships transition fully into hyperspace (as we've seen every time a ship is moving through the glowy blue tunnel.)
    2) It requires a capital class ship with a hyperdrive. We know that hyperdrives are expensive, as it's been made a point that any cheap ship (TIEs, for example) don't have them. Also, while in real life, ANY kinetic projectile going faster than the speed of light (or even 99% of the speed of light) would cause immense damage, Star Wars fudges this kind of stuff since...like...the Supremacy is still in existence and isn't a haze of plasma after being hit by the suicide ram. Possibly shields have something to do with this?
    3) It requires the enemy crew to be slow on the uptake. If the Supremacy had been closer or had concentrated fire on the...whatever the rebel ship was called, they PROBABLY could have destroyed it before it swung around and warmed up the engine.
    So, these factors restrict a lightspeed ram to the few times where you have a capital ship, are willing to sacrifice the immense investment in crew and material, the enemy is at the right range so that you can hit them before dropping into hyperspace, and there's no mass sources between you and the target to screw you over.
    >.> Now...it is possible that I'm just out of my gourd and am reaching because I liked The Last Jedi a lot, but that's my thoughts.

      1. the introduction of rose . No point to her character at all you could leave her out and it would actually make the THJ better in my book. Not saying anythjjng about the actress.
      2. Luke's dramatic character shift. I mean really I could see why he would consider killing Darth Vader in rofj but the reasoning to kill Ben in the tlj......really he has only started being touched by the dark side and he turns on his lightsaber to kill his nephew....
      3. Hyperspace tacking........even though Darth Vader tracked down princess Leia in a new hope......its either not new tech or
      4. Leias superman routine through space when she got blasted into space.....she was not hinted at having any force powers other than her force sense the entire time.....
      5. Admiral Holdo......pretty sure that is self explanatory.....
      6. Dropping bombs in space like that.....
      Those are just a few of the issues I had with the movie. It's clear that Rian Johnson had no idea what he was doing when he directed the film that or the producers where a little too hands on and just botched the film entirely.

    So I was just interested how Harrower-class dreadnought is balanced compared to Imperial ships, ISD and Executor, and Supremacy. I made few rough calculations, very very rough calculations, so I would have some numbers to compare. ISD is 2 times longer 2,45 times wider and 3,11 times higher. I made an average of those numbers which is 2,52. When you use this number you will get that crew can be only 6048, in hangars you can have up to 409 starfighters, bombers, and shuttles. In addition, this theoretical ship could carry about 18396 troops. I assumed that the need for the crew would be the same for this ship as is the ship larger. I have done the same thing for Executor (13,94 times bigger) and Supremacy (60,9 times bigger). The result is 2259 deployable spacecraft and crew is 33456 for Executor, for Supremacy it is 9866 spacecraft and crew of 146160. And those are very rough numbers. I did not use those 8 Star Destroyers that Supremacy can carry.
