These smoke chicken drumsticks are so versatile and easy! Just for beginners Bbq I like to use mesquite pellets or other fruit woods, but maple is also a great choice. Use your favorite BBQ rub. Letting the drumsticks air dry in the refrigerator overnight, combined with a higher smoking temperature, helps prevent rubbery skin that is common when smoking chicken. Serve with your favorite BBQ sauce, if desired.

Friends, Bbq chicken legs are some of the easiest things to make on the smoker. And, as mentioned above, they're relatively cheap as well. Definitely agree, a 100 pound grown man probably isn’t cooking the good stuff!!
Linebacker? This man is straight O-Line! Hell yea!
Linebacker my ass! That there is a nose guard and he will destroy you
The quick recap of exactly how and when and what temp at the end made me a subscriber. Nicely done.
Thank you.
Second that!
3rd!
Good for guys like me who jus see a nice smoked piece of chicken and forget everything. Ohh piece of chicken ohh piece of chicken and forgot everything.
Bro!!! All these pros out there. Youre the one to follow. But don't be shy. Let's get this channel rolling!
Thank you. That means a lot. Let do this!!!!!!
Love this video straight to the point instead of wasting 20 minutes🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you.
I comeback every time I cook these lol. I always for get time and temp
I’m glad I can help.
Thanks for posting the temps and times . Traeger newbie here!!
I’m glad I can help.
I love that you recap the times and temps!!!! Subscribing!!!!! Smoking drumsticks 🍗 tomorrow
Dude... great video for all the reasons people have already listed. Recap was awesome, and the enthusiasm just makes you wanna cook some meat. Gonna try this out today. Think I'll do a quick dry brine for a few hours ahead, rinse, pat dry, then hit your corn starch AND seasoning mix. Can't wait. Wish you success Brotha. Great vids.
Thanks for adding the details. Temp, time, etc. Can’t wait to try it.
Hope you enjoy
I'm new to pellet grills and found this video after going to a BBQ through down and one of the contestants advised to start off with some sort of dark meat like chicken legs. Followed your instructions, but used Sweet Baby Ray's instead as that's what I had on hand. Turned out great! I haven't seen anyone else using corn starch but can't imagine not using it. Great recipe and great video bro!
Thank you I love reading comments like this one. That’s what this channel is all about. I’m glad I can help
I tried this chicken on my pellet smoker it was the best chicken I’ve ever made thanks for the video
I’m so glad to hear this. This is why I do this.
The recap is next level all RUclipsrs should do that
Thanks I’m glad you liked it.
Thank you for this video. I am going to try chicken legs for the first time tomorrow in the Traeger. Chicken legs are half the price of wings right now. Appreciate the simple instructions. I have subscribed.
Thank you for subscribing. I’m glad I can help out.
Hold up though....you can't get smoke @ 300. Your pellets are simply burning to maintain the temp. I'm sure these legs come out great but I'll be using my smoke tube if I'm going that high on temp.
Smart, not that many know to get smoke on a pellet you have to keep it low or on your smoke setting. Smoking this chicken fully would’ve taken more than the hour 15 he took. Still, making food like this is quick and a better tasting chicken than grilled or oven! Your thoughts?
That cornstarch trick is absolutely genius. The biggest problem with smoking chicken is the rubbery skin. Wow. What a hack.
Works great with oven baked wings. That’s my Super Bowl treat- extra crispy wings without the grease.
Going to try this in my new Traeger tonight…
Man you hit a a home run with this Bbq chicken. I’ve been to famous Dave restaurant and it’s some good bbq.
I live close to where Dave is from in Wisconsin. I believe the first one was in Hayward WI. There is on in Duluth MN that I have been to pretty good.
Thanks for the video! I dont use pellet grills ever so having this explained Step by Step was very helpful, thanks again! Gonna make these tomorrow!
I’m glad I can help
Trying this today don't have a traeger but a pit boss hoping it works out

I’m about to try your recipe tonight bro 😎 Thanks for the quick and easy lesson 🎉
That looks great! U ever butterfly the drumsticks?
@@elmaschingon41 no I haven’t done that yet.
Where are the recipes listed on your videos???? Do you have a website?
Bbq Dave’s spitfire is the best hands down
I use Famous Dave too, they just came out here in Colorado with Texas BBQ sauce as an additional flavor, very peppery it’s a favorite now
Wow I haven’t tried that flavor yet.
I’m finishing the first burn off on my Pit Boss Smoker and then I’m making these drumsticks just like you did!
Thank you, I have made this 3 times and it is amazing each time.
Just subscribed straight to the point video 👍 recap awesome 👏
Excellent recipe, thank you
I’m glad you liked it.
greetings from germany!!!!! great drumsticks!
Thank you.
They closed the Famous Dave's in Tulsa OK. It made me sad. It didn't realize you could still get the sauce! Thank you sir!
Yea they sell them at Walmart
Going to try out this recipe for Memorial Day 2024! Looks like a winner!
Great job bro, seasoning up my new Traeger now and I’m going to throw some legs and thighs on for the first cook.
Congrats on the new grill.
You sir are my new favorite griller
Thank you. And welcome to the channel
Just subbed, trying this on my new 22Pro I got yesterday! We hittin this tonight!! Thanks bro!
What can you use if you don't have corn starch
Can you specify what temp to look for at that 1 hour mark? Thanks!
Should be around 150-160. Then you add the bbq sauce and once there done, they should be at 170 internal
I Like the recap... thanks!
Thank you. I’m glad you enjoyed the video.
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
@@BeginnersBBQ I just subscribed to your channel. I will try this recipe next time.
Thank you, I don't like chicken very much. But, I used your recipe to cook Chicken legs for my wife. She ate 4 pieces.
Just gave this a try, came out pretty good! IDK if the corn starch did anything as the skin was kinda rubbery but otherwise the family was impressed!! Maybe a higher temp? IDK my pit boss always seems to struggle to maintain temp. Ended up being around 285-290 most of the cook.
I’m happy to hear that it came out great.
Thank you for this great recipe.
Your welcome. I’m glad you liked my video.
Oh man I’m gonna have to try this today. I don’t have a fancy grill but I have a thermometer I’ll leave in it to try to maintain the temp.
You dont need a fancy grill to make this. What ever you have will work. You got this.
Thank you for the temperature recap. I'm going to do this with chicken thighs.
trying this tonight on my 2 day old Traeger Pro 575 -- im excited
Congrats on your new traeger.
Saludos desde Torreón, Mexico. Thanks for this, bro.
I agree with Dave's bbq sauce being the best. And devil's spit Is very hot... but awesome
Your recap at the end is perfect! Thanks for this video. Got a new subscriber in me 🙂
Thanks for the sub!
Thanks so much for this video! We recently got a pellet smoker and I’m slowly learning. Can’t wait to make these legs tonight! I definitely subscribed 🥰
I’m glad I was able to help.
@@BeginnersBBQ q
I will try this next. Good job.
For a good BBQ sauce, look for one without high fructose corn syrup as the first ingredient.
Or none at all
@@tomabbott5815 exactly. I should have phrased that differently. No hfcs.
What was the temp you set it at
What temp o. The grill?
What are the dry ingredients first put on? Flour? Flour, salt and pepper? Did you add the corn starch to the other mystery ingredients or directly to the legs. I am a true beginner.
It was bbq rub and corn starch
Good video.
Thanks for the visit
Thank you for taking the time for this. It is very informative.
Thank you. I’m glad I’m able to help.
Cooking this tonight ! Thanks for the details and great video 😊
Glad you like it
Once you put the chicken in do you flip the chicken?
No I don’t
Did you flip these at all
What temp do you set you set your grill ?
Looks good I'll be trying tomorrow
Well done sir
Thank you.
Definitely agree , famous Dave’s is where it’s at.
Love famous Dave’s sauce.
Thanks man doing this right now!!! I also got that same bbq sauce. I’m doing ribs this weekend for Memorial Day and using that sauce.
Nice. How did they come out?
@@BeginnersBBQ they were super delicious!! Thanks for your video love your content!
@@MoloneLabe that is great. I’m glad to hear that. Thank you for your support.
Love this guys spirit
You’re getting winded from prepping drums?
A table spoon of cornstarch?????? Bro that was like half a cup
Great work
Thank you 🙏
Like the recap it helps a lot
I’m glad I can help
thanks definitely going to try these
Your reaction makes me want to buy a Traegar.
🤣
So I have a gas grill… what I do🥲🥲… and most of the time I see people flip their chicken leg.. any advice on that
I would put the chicken legs on the second grill grates. And cook it there and once the chicken gets to 160 internal temp, move it down to the main grates do get that char grill look and taste.
Love the recap
I have a pit boss and am going to try this for my girls tonight thanks for the informative video!!! 🤠🤘🏻
I’m glad I can help.
Your content is on point short sweet and to the point. For that you got a subscriber
Welcome aboard!
Should I skip the corn starch if the legs I have are skinless?
Yea you should skip it.
How much cornstarch though?
Tablespoon
@@BeginnersBBQ thank you
Damn those look good! You have earned a sub my man!
Thanks, glad you liked them and welcome to the channel.
Soak it in sea salt for a hour then put mustard, italian dressing with rosemary & brown sugar for a hour then smoke it with Cherry/Hikory w 4:03 4:04 hile basting it with grapeseed oil with tarrigon with Open Pit bbq sauce for 4 hours over Kingford charcoal😮😊
You know it’s pops when you give it that short little “ughn!”
You know it. 🤤
Did these on my Traeger, turned out pretty good. The skin was kind of rubbery but maybe I didn’t do enough corn starch. I’m going to try Olive oil next. Thanks for the video, you did a good job btw.
Honestly, if you just apply a good rub, but still follow his smoking instructions, you're going to have some good food.
That's a traeger thing, cook them to like 180. Or put in airfryer after
Where do you get that bbq sauce at?
300 °F (148 °C) for 1 hour.
Internal temp should be 165 - 170 °F (74 - 76 °C)
Roll through BBQ sauce.
Add back for 15 mins.
Completed temp should be around 175 °F (80 °C)
Using your recipe on 20 lbs of legs going into the Timberline XL for my dudes at work!
Hell yea!!! Let me know how it comes out.
@@BeginnersBBQ Came out great bro. Did 48 drums. Mango habanero/devils spit mix, Rib Rack hot honey, Sweet baby rays garlic parm, and Kinders teriyaki👌🏼. Ran 300 for about 50-55 mins to 165-175(some drums were twice the size as the others) and 15-20 mins after saucing! Thanks again for the corn starch tip!
@@gsairborne man I’m glad to hear that. It’s sounds delicious
You killed hell yah I’ll go lower for a bit ramp it up but the cornstarch this is gunna take my thighs to a whole new level 😊
1:49 300 degrees for 1 hour and 15 min to 1 hour and a half.
What was the final temp after the final 15 minutes?
It was 175 internal.
@@BeginnersBBQ At 175 is there the fear of overcooking? I have always heard about the magic temperature of 165 for chicken.
@@carlos-ib4id not with bone in chicken. If it’s boneless than yea right at 165. But on bone in chicken you want to go 175 internal. The majority of pitmasters take it to 180-190 internal.
@@BeginnersBBQ Thank you very much for the information. As per your advice I took it to 175 and boy was it delicious. My family loved them! Thanks again for the awesome content!
@@carlos-ib4id I’m glad it came out good. I’m here to help.
The bite made me hungry
Super helpful! Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Str8 to the point video!
So do you prefer laying them down over hanging them on a rack?
I haven’t tried hanging them on a rack. But I do want to try it and see if there’s any difference.
@@BeginnersBBQ there isn't lol people be making it too complicated.
