- Now at this point in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, it’s not secret how massive of a turnaround the Los Angeles Lakers have made. And whether you want to credit that most to their trade deadline roster turnaround, the scheme improvements from head coach Darvin Ham, or even the improved play out of Anthony Davis down the stretch alongside LeBron James, the LA Lakers continue to operate their offense & defense in this NBA postseason in a manner that I never would’ve expected to see.
To start on offense, the approach taken by LeBron and this team is the opposite of what we would’ve guessed they’d do. Because by taking their ‘point guard by committee’ approach, there’s always the unpredictability of who will initiate the offense with guys like D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Dennis Schroder, & LeBron James able to take over. Which in turn continues to open up endless opportunities for AD, Rui Hachimura, Lonnie Walker IV, Jarred Vanderbilt, Wenyen Gabriel, etc.
But then in terms of the Lakers defense, while it will always be anchored by Anthony Davis, they’ve become one of the best playoff teams in this regard. Because with key players on this side like Jarred Vanderbilt, Rui Hachimura, and Dennis Schroder already mentioned, the film shows you how they have relentlessly halted Steph Curry, Klay Thompson & the Golden State Warriors offense in more ways than they are used to.

Also I wish they signed KLove when he was bought out. Him backing up/playing alongside AD would’ve been awesome for this team. Pelinka pulled a miracle otherwise.

So glad he brought up the PG position with the team because I've pointed out how they run lineups with 3 PGs alongside Bron and AD. This contributes to them controlling the flow of the game and foul grifting from players like Dennis and Austin. Everyone thinks it the refs but its actually bad defense from opponents and heads up play from the LA guards. This is a guard heavy team which also puts more focus on dribble drives and finding ways to feed AD.
This to me is like a weird repeat of the '18 cavs playoff run. I'd mentally prepare myself to see them lose, and somehow LeBron pulled the win, except this time it's more fun because of the chess going on between the two teams trying different stats. This is one of the best playoffs in a while across the board, the nuggets and suns series is great, miami seems to be crushing everything thrown at them, great year for basketball overall.

Very unpredictable year, all year. I was also reminded of the 2018 Cavs, only they didn't have AD. If they had, they might have gotten the ring in 2018. I think the 2023 Lakers are better than the 2018 Cavs. The Warriors aren't as good as the 2018 GSW. Lebron knows how to play and beat Denver, Celtics, and Miami. I'd say the Lakers have at least a 50-50 chance of winning the Finals.

What's scary is the Lakers are still underrated. The Lakers have 2 or 3 key players that match up well for any team in the league. Beasley, Brown and Gabriel are also very capable and waiting for the right match-up. Analyst are usually right about individual players, but wrong about teams. Analysts also drive midseason narratives until the wheels fall off to our advantage. Good Bless them all lol That being said. Denver is Very Scary! Go Lakers
First Round Lakers have a slight advantage then second round they are fighting but have more work to do, lastly if they win and advance and they will play with either the Joker or Booker which will bring out some of the problems with the Lakers or if they will perform better or the same then the Heat on the east will have a problem in the Finals which if the Lakers will show greatness and good games this would start a dynasty for the lakers in the upcoming years.
But this just predictions so let's see what will happen.

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that the Lakers have beaten the Warriors 6 out of the 8 games played this season, 3 out of 4 during the regular season and 3 out of 4 in the playoffs so far.

To put it in perspective it’s gonna be very difficult but I think our defense will hold up, we’ve been tested inside with Memphis and we’ve been tested on the perimeter. We’ve been tested in coaching battles with Kerr, and superstar wise we got the experience. I think if lakers don’t steal a game away from home early, then Denver will win.

Lakers have so many good problems it’s scary. I think that’s something people don’t realize abou my the teams versatility. They can win in any fashion be it pretty or ugly. Against GS they showed they can play at pace and win their own way as GS would typically shoot twice as many threes as LA. LeBron averaging 22 rn feels critical for the team cause that means he’s been able to take a back seat from scoring and actually focus on being a Swiss Army knife. Like he decided to mimic what Draymond does for GS
