  • Mystical Experience vs Psychosis
    "Whatever happens in the fantasy must happen to you. You should not let yourself be represented by a fantasy figure. You must safeguard the ego and only let it be modifed by the unconscious, just as the latter must be acknowledged with full justification and only prevented from suppressing and assimilating the ego."
    Carl Jung, Letters Volume 1, Page 561
    "[In schizophrenia] the split-off figures assume banal, grotesque, or highly exaggerated names and characters, and are often objectionable in many other ways. They do not, moreover, co-operate with the patient’s consciousness. They are not tactful and they have no respect for sentimental values. On the contrary, they break in and make a disturbance at any time, they torment the ego in a hundred ways; all are objectionable and shocking, either in their noisy and impertinent behaviour or in their grotesque cruelty and obscenity. There is an apparent chaos of incoherent visions, voices, and characters, all of an overwhelmingly strange and incomprehensible nature."
    [“On the Psychogenesis of Schizophrenia,” CW 3, par. 508.]

    There are spontaneous kundalini awakenings as well... which in some cases can lead to psychotic breaks. So... I sometimes think that the "psychotic" are just people without spiritual training, which leads to fear and overwhelm. And then the psychiatric system is not equipped to deal with these things either...

      Climateninja correct 1000% this is what had happened to my friend , he has amazing clairvoyance ability but unfortunately he is being kept in a mental hospital in Brisbane Australia, we met on a dating site he wrote to me and he told me , this and that about me and eventually he said you are a gifted person , you will be a healer and so on .at that time i was goin through strange thing like vision hallucinations (seeing demonic images) started to have ability to communicate with my Ancestors, purging , i was freaking out didnt understand nothing living in fear , not sleeping at nite , those nites of terrors was just overwhelmed , the time i met this young guy we both were going through the same journey , i decided to bailed and went home to Bali to find a spiritual teacher to guide me through , and to understand who i was and where this gift came from , i knew my Grandmothers was a healer so they have choosed me to be the next in line, without my knowledge 😃... but i have no say in that anyway , i have been told to leave all material world to return to Bali and to enter the world of spirituality however long it will take it is my destiny and i am super ok with that . But before that i have to return to Australia to help my friend who had told me " you the one who is goin to healed me" i didnt understand what he was saying then but i understood it now after goin through my own journey with my spiritual teacher , and why i would be the one to help him , 2 months in training i have some knowledges and abilities from the Universe...and yes mental hospital isnt goin to help him , he is in the wrong house those mental hospital wouldnt have a clue how to handle him just more pharma drugs not more which is goin to make him worse , i guessed when his psychic ability was so spotted on he knew i was goin to be the one to lead him to recovery with meditation and so on , with what i have learnt i am confident and understand what he meant now . Becouse i could have been easily ended up like him , with no spiritual teacher a total disaster . My background coming from the land of spirits , told me " pack your stuff and go home now " was the best thing ever happened to me as we see things beyond visual being spiritual was greatest gift as we practice rituals everyday, thanking our Gods of the land.. definitely, thanking the Universe for the gift and more exciting experiences to come , i embraced my calling with open hearted now .😃

    I think the mistake is to see this as something "sub-conscious".. it is not, it's a form of consciousness that knows you better than yourself so super-consciousness would be a better term. A "psychosis" is sort of like the ego, in order to preserve itself in the face of a powerful spiritual awakening, will take advantage of a heightened state of being and connection to all things possible, in order to, out of this soup of potentialities, construct some fantasy that provides a kind of new identity, for instance one in which a person is surveilled by secret agents or one in which the person is secretly a messiah. It is kind of a desperate but very clever move by the ego, to avoid a development that poses a threat to it. It is also contagious, in that the general fear in society of going mad and "psychotic" amplifies the chances of that happening to someone. "Psychotic" people in a society with no concept of "psychosis" would ideally navigate this ego trap and others with guidance and without succumbing to fear. If Jungs position really is the way you describe it, I think there are some things he misunderstood about this, but I have to read more of his works to make that judgement. Thanks for sharing.

    If I had the experiences with Kundalini I had without knowing that it was Kundalini, I certainly would have thought it was psychosis. I can't imagine how it would feel to have it happen spontaneously, without knowing what it was. 😕

    • @ooooswain
      @ooooswain 5 лет назад +2

      My awakening wasn't completely spontaneous but it happened far too soon for me. I had been attending sahaja meditation classes for a month and decided to go into a sensory deprivation tank for two hours. The next day I went to the guided sahaja meditation class and experienced my awakening.
      I knew almost nothing of kundalini at this point but I knew it was an energy a lot of the Indians in the class used. Initially I was in complete bliss. Happiest and healthiest I've ever felt in my life, with enhanced senses, creativity, and confidence. Everything was wonderful until I went to work the next day and started feeling other people's energies VERY profoundly and it was terrifying... a lot of their energies felt strange to me and gave me bad vibes. This sent me into a downward spiral. I freaked out and just wanted this energy to go away. I desperately grasped to my ego and just wanted everything to go back to normal haha. I then started to feel completely opposite of how I felt before. I felt extremely deep depression, my body was in physical pain all over, I felt lifeless. Long story short, I was actually able to bring kundalini back to a dormant state with the help of my meditation instructor who told me to sleep outside and be as close to nature as possible. I did nothing but sit in the grass and watch birds everyday for a week and I slept in a tent. Even though I felt like complete shit mentally and physically every day, there were times of serenity and peace where I felt a oneness with nature and all life on earth. Every day I felt a little bit better and after a week kundalini was dormant and I was back to my old ego self. Although I now can differentiate between my true self and my ego self. This experience scared me away from meditation for years, but I've always been very grateful for the experience and now that I've done my research on kundalini and metaphysics and cleansed myself of religious conditioning, I'm starting to get back into meditation. I want to live in that blissful state that kundalini allowed me to experience. I will take this path slowly this time haha. Mindfulness comes first 🙏

      That is exactly what happened with me. I didnt know anything about kundalini, but I think I googled "rising energy from bottom" or something and recognized that it is exactly like kundalini. The energy was so powerful to not notice, it put my whole body to move when it was rising so I kind of had a physical evidence that I am not crazy and the feeling of rising energy is not made up mentally. Kundalini is also called sexual energy. It spontaneously awakened when I fell in love so it kind of makes sense.

      I encourage you to consider seeking Jesus Christ. I unintentionally had a "kundalini awakening" last year. I had an out of body experience, felt bliss, felt euphoric, started hearing music, had some psychic visions, etc. One day during a meditation session I was attacked by a demon. The spiritual realm is real, and yes you may know about it; however, satan deceives many. Jesus Christ saved me from this deception of "enlightenment/awakening". He healed my symptoms of anxiety, what seemed like psychosis symptoms, etc. A demon was cast out of me and testimony video is here: ruclips.net/video/DHN16Wxa5hU/видео.html
      I do not make the video for my sake, but for the glory of God who brought me out of this deception. I know many are deceived and believe they are being "awakened/assessending". But this is all false work with dark powers- satan and his demons. Please consider seeking the truth found in Jesus Christ. Seek Him and He will provide you with the answers you need, with the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and with peace that surpassess all understanding. Not this false anxiety driving "processes".

    Kundalini psychosis is very common with an ungrounded yoga practice. Third eye meditation (alone) is dangerous by itself because it can lead to kundalini psychosis. In the same way, heart-based meditation-alone- can create a state of being “love-drunk”. All yoga, meditation and Qigong breathing practices must begin and end in the belly, (the lower dan tien in qigong) 3-4 finger widths below the navel. This energy center of the body (lower dan tien) is like a battery and can store much prana/chi. The third eye and heart cannot store excess chi/prana and you will fry it out if your yoga/meditation practice starts or ends in either the heart or third eye. To heal from kundalini psychosis (or a spiritual energy emergency), you must learn how to ground yourself. Yin energy is from the Earth, it is calming to the nervous system. Standing barefoot on the ground, outdoors is best, and if you are indoors, open a window for fresh air, be in the shade because the sun is Yang energizing and very stimulating. Put your hands, one atop the other onto your belly, centered 3-4 finger widths below your navel, and beginning with your exhale (our exhale is calming and activates Yin energy and our parasympathetic nervous system, while our inhale is excitatory and activates our Yang energy and sympathetic nervous system. Also with a Seated yoga positioning where you fold your legs up can make it more difficult to channel prana/chi up from the earth if you were not taught this method of breathing, so learn another practice- (another spiritual tool) a Yin qigong practice that brings calming yin chi up from the earth, through the soles of your feet and into your belly( lower dan tien). With your inhale, you draw earth chi into your belly, and with your exhale, which becomes longer and slower with each breath. Next with your exhale, allow your chi to sink back into your feet and the earth. With Taoist breathing, the inhaled breath draws prana/chi up from the earth and into the body with each inhale, and with each exhaled breath, sink your qi/prana back into the earth grounding your excess energy. While with Buddhist breathing, the chi follows the breath and the inhale drawns chi from the third eye or the nostrils down to the heart and/or the belly, and then the exhale returns the chi/prana back up to the nostrils or third eye - which can be dangerously over- stimulating to both the third eye and the heart. This overstimulation of the heart and/or the third eye is what can cause a kundalini emergency and all you need to do is learn how to ground your practice. If your kundalini emergency is coming from PTSD or a physical/sexual trauma that your body has compartmentalized for your own safety, you will want to learn additional techniques to bring peace and love and healing energy to this trauma energy that you have spontaneously brought to your conscious awareness after your body had kept it safely hidden from you to protect yourself when you were younger. If you want to use a mantra, try the word “Peace” and inwardly say “love” with your inhale, and “peace” with your exhale - with each breath- drawing out the word : inhaling “Looooooooovvvvvee” and then exhalihg “peeeeeaaaaaccccceeeeee” This Yin-Taoist meditation style is just one of many you can learn from me. Please contact me if you have questions. ❤️&✌️to you and good chi! 😌

    "Among other things, I did not merely come to believe, but I saw that the universe is not composed of dead matter, but is, on the contrary, a living Presence; I became conscious in myself of eternal life, but a consciousness that I possessed eternal life then; I saw that all men are immortal; that the cosmic order is such that without any peradventure all things work together for the good of each and all; that the foundation principle of the world.."
    During a psychedelic experience i felt something similar to the description in the quote ...I would say that the whole universe can be looked at as one organism, which we can call `god` for a lack of better word. I saw that the most `advanced/evolved` parts/organs of this organism is `nature`. During the experience I quite clearly recognised my connection to nature; I felt it in me; I felt that belong to it; I felt that I am nature itself. I saw that I'm no different to a bush or an animal in the jungle. I am just one expression of the whole synergistic ecology, one instantiation of life, of nature, of universe (& in that way unkillable)...... Then I started thinking about thoughts & got horrified. I recognised how thoughts have lead us to creation of technology and civilisation & how we are turning on nature; stupidly/unknowingly rejecting it. Civilisation is killing nature at an unbelievable speed (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_impact_on_the_environment), it is like there is an invisible, dinosaur-killing-like-meteorite landing on the surface of the planet in super-slow-motion... I recognised that the right thing would be to use our thoughts (& technology that arises from them) to help the universe as an organism `evolve` even further; at the very least preserve nature, even spread it to other planets to ensure that nature can survive even solar-system scope catastrophes.
    We don't normally look at it like this, because it is too obvious, but we are so connected to life/nature/ecology we have to create a canned version of it just to survive in space.
    I listen to a lot of Allan Watts, so maybe that helped me frame it like this.

      I am not the biggest fan of words like 'purpose' & 'intent'. In my opinion we are definitely hurting ourselves in the long-run by doing it, maybe even fatally as we need nature. Evolution & natural selection need variety to carry on. We are definitely making nature more fragile by reducing the number of species; as this goes on, more
      & weaker threats become fatal-threats to the whole system.
      We are the only ones with the intellect & power to preserve nature so it falls upon us to take up that challenge. There is no one else, we have to step up. I'm not feeling optimistic though.

    As a parallel in the other direction, I share this: I had stuttered for 40 years and had eczema almost all over my body. Today, since 17 years ago, I am completely healthy from these ailments. Under controlled conditions, I have received amazing healing of my body and soul with the help of a very talented breathing therapist ("Rebirthing"). I have experienced the effects of kundalini in my body and I often got really scared - but in consultation with my therapist (and in full faith in him) who sat next to me in the sessions, I was able to be guided in the "right direction" and let the process continue. I fully understand that if you interrupt the ongoing kundalini process out of fear, it can lead to mental illness. Of course, I recommend having a therapist present. The most important thing when the kundalini process starts is that it is allowed to do its job until the process is complete. How do you know this without that knowledge? I knew absolutely nothing about what I was going to be involved with, but with my therapist present and explaining during the therapy process, it went very well in my case.

    To simply toss aside someone else's mysticism as bunk, which is my normal response to such things, doesn't necessarily also close the door on the possibility that you can dive into your own mind and cut it free for a time, perhaps with meditation or other methods and allow a greater portion of your own capabilities to surface and run free. I think when I am writing a story, I am doing just that. I have often told others, "I have to hurry up and write the next chapter to find out what happens." Does that make sense in a rational world? It is stepping outside of the box, and letting something inside loose from its bounds. That something steps forward and tells me what to write by sharing things that are normally hidden inside me.
    Of course I view this as a process that is totally grounded in the physical workings of my brain, and don't look at it as being at all mystical. I am not looking for a higher power or universal force. I am simply using what is already there, waiting to be used. It is sort of like having a computer on the shelf that is unused, and I take it down and fire it up to see what software is on it. All force of spirit and mind are in the brain, and only in the brain, in my opinion. That of course would also apply to psychosis for it is a malfunction of the brain.
    I have watched a number of your videos and I have enjoyed watching your mind work. Keep it up.

    I've had what might be labeled psychosis, as I was hospitalized, but also might be labeled genuine mystical experiences. I think the difference in labels may in large part be attributed to world view; your own and the people around you, as this will influence how you and they interpret it.
    I'm fairly well educated in the hard sciences and before these occurances could best be described as a physical materialist. I had no time for woo, including "nonsense" such as Jungian psychology. This left me ill prepared for (take your pick) my mind or reality itself from pulling the rug from underneath my feet. I had no context for these experiences and was deeply confused by my once "trust worthy" mind failing me. It is no surprise that someone like me, with these experiences, landed in the mental hospital.
    These experiences, both in and of themselves and my initial reactions to them, have profoundly shifted my awareness and paradigms. Whereas before I was a staunch materialist, philosophically I'm now more aligned with idealism; although there may not be as big a difference as I used to presume. Because it's probably not "my" mind (a la solipsism) but an impersonal universal mind that can manifest all, similar to how my "personal" mind generates my nightly dreams.
    And this is where I take some issue with this video. It seems, with no convincing (to me) reason, to priviledge our ordinary waking reality as "real". I'll grant that my mystical experiences were most likely "imaginary" but they were as real, if not more, than this ordinary reality. And that leads to the unsettling (to the unprepared) realization that your ordinary everday physical reality is also imaginary; not (terror of terrors) the special "real" place where you abode. This is the only reason I can see to priviledge it, is that to not do so can be (is) terrifying by it's implication. It can be unsettling to no longer be your familiar self and in a very profound sense reality/imagination is incompassing; when you "see" that, it can't easily be unseen.
    After having these experiences with psychosis/mysticism, I rest easier in the awareness that I won't die in the sense that I used to think (lights out, forever and preforever). I will die in the sense that I already have, that is to say I and all of reality will morph; sometimes in ways that you dear reader (and writer) think are impossible, and this will deeply challenge your most cherrished assumptions...I'm a meat-bag, I'm an immortal soul, I reincarnate etc., "you" are ephemeral and this is not a tragedy.

    I believe there is a grey area to this as well. All the prophets and spiritual teachers who have claimed visions and bring up concepts of God have some levels of psychosis in them than just mysticism. Buddha, Lao Tzu, J Krishnamurti, Alan Watts and Osho are a few examples of spiritual teachers who went beyond hallucinations to teach what was the most important thing, there is nothing complicated about this world, it's all in our own mind, we are the observer and realizing the true outwardly nature of our soul is what spiritual awakening really is, it's simple and a joyful experience.
    The truth is not even a wise teacher will know for sure if you are ready or not, you may be disciplined, knowledgeable, calm and compassionate on the surface but there may be deep levels of insecurities that you have not explored yet. That's why the spiritual process under a guru is intense and they constantly put you to test. Zen masters even use random actions like unnecessarily create sounds to analyze their students reactions. Discipline, calming the mind, self enquiry are all tools the guru uses as it gives them the best chance to analyze your level of clarity and authenticity but even then they will not write off a possibility that you have an ego that could manifest the wrong energies in you. The training is to try and bring you to authenticity. Technically, if you are not corrupted by the world, the mind of the child as Jesus puts it, you can have your awakening right now but that would be too easy :)
    Religion, demonology and occults are all born out of a single persons delusion. They are nothing but fantasy tales someone makes with their heightened intuitions, it's the ultimate way to punk yourself and many prophets and spiritual leaders have managed to punk the world with it too.

    The difference between Kundalini and Psychosis is that during Kundalini you start to see the actual reality, whereas during Psychosis you see it, but don't believe it, which makes you go crazy. During Kundalini you go through A LOT of changes, from molecular to mystical, so its normal to get Psychosis because your body and mind is getting used to the changes. So no it's not dangerous, you just have to believe and keep moving forward no matter how hard it gets. It's only dangerous, you're dangerous to yourself, if you stop believing.

    Fascinating! So, where the psychotic becomes identified with unconscious, instinctual energy and possessed or tormented by it, the mystic can be present with those powerful energies - and discover the insights that unfold - without losing their presence, or conscious focus, to the agenda of those forces. Is it your impression that - in the Jungian sense - the mystic integrates unconscious energies as they move along a path to deeper wisdom? Or, put another way, would you speculate that the mediator is individuating (in the Jungian sense) or doing something different?

  • @confusionconclusion502

    in my experience it is arrogance that leads the way from true awakening to psychosis. the difference is a true heart.
    edit: having experienced both, I have to say obviously the mind is very cunning in a psychosis. after observing these states I have to say there is a grain of truth, or maybe better addressed as a kind of "knowing" during the psychosis. But the mind very subtly inserts its self into this field of knowing. Maybe trying to in a way extract the true infinite energy and use it for its own agenda. I believe being displaced from our natural environment is one of the largest attributers to the state of psychosis. It is a state of mind that I can see being extremely useful in life or death situations or when the entire sensation of being and will must be used but civilization or a sense of dependance on the system has driven part of our full awareness into our unconscious. because of that were not able to really handle the impact of our full awareness and effectively put it to practice use with our minds. At the worst case we have a terrible self understanding caused by trauma insecurity and fear and use this altered state of mind to amplify that which leads to further damage.

    @4:55 If ego disintegrates, the individual then operates on what function/part of the brain?
    There are some substances that shamans use to get into trance (mescalin, lsd?). Could it be that these substances shut down parts of the brain that correspond to ego, thereby pushing ego (chatter) into background and bringing some other part of the brain that usually resides in shadow into the foreground?
    But what is that part called? Id? Primitive parts of the brain that are normally suppressed or shadowed by ego interference? Or hereditary information passed on from generation to generation during evolution? Could these be what Jung described as archetypes? Primitive, hereditary, basic/primal functions or programs related to instincts and survival? Our core operating system or bios?
    @5:45 astral travel? @6:00 grounding or anchoring?
    @6:55 I think all philosophies are actually defining same phenomena but in different terminology.
    Symptoms of kundalini rising sounded to me like PTSD symptoms. I think, kundalini rising is actually our psyche and body responding to stressful events and trauma that our psyche, at its current capacity, is unable to deal with or tolerate. Therefore, we go thru a stage of development to develop our psyche to deal with these stressors, which changes our personality and perspective and results in changing our lifestyle and approach to life.
    This also could be explained in MBTI as an individual developing tertiary and then inferior functions as he/she gets older. However, an individual who lives in an environment that he/she can tolerate and deal with thru his/her primary and secondary functions would feel little need to develop his/her tertiary and inferior functions. Therefore, individuals whose primary and secondary functions are unable to deal with their host culture and environment have more propensity and drive to seek out kundalini rising or self actualization.
    I also relatee Jung's anima/animus to the inferior function in MBTI, which is the Achilles' heel for every individual. I think self actualization or kundalini rising might be related to gaining control over anima/animus, however limited it may be.
    I don't think kundalini experience relates that much to psychosis but to PTSD. I associate psychosis more with schizophrenia. Kundalini rising feels to me more like a way of psyche trying to deal with huge life stressors and trauma, which results in hormones firing up and going haywire. But at the end of this phase or process, I guess the brain develops new neural pathways that are more suited to deal with the said stressors and trauma, which in other words would mean that the individual succeeded in developing one of his/her dormant cognitive functions.

    • @MindMastery
      @MindMastery  6 лет назад +1

      Yes I would imagine how kundalini might be related / causing PTSD - over-active nervous system, unbalanced neurotransmitters, hormones going all over the place. So on the biological level yes, it all resembles PTSD. But then what about 'stronger' cases where people seem to have visual and auditory hallucinations? PTSD causes flashbacks but they are more like fear-based situations where a person literally freezes and is preoccupied with the flashback, often reacting to the situation in front of them as if it was an event from the flashback. But I've never heard of cases of someone with PTSD believing they are god or talking to angels. Perhaps both PTSD and psychosis could be applicable, depending on severity of the damage that kundalini could cause?

    • @yeghor
      @yeghor 6 лет назад

      Yes, that might be true. I've never experienced it myself so I was just speculating based on kundalini rising symptoms I've read on the web.

    9:44 *_"Jung advises not to identify with the unconscious."_*
    I have a question for minds more individuated than my own. If experiences play a fundamental role in shaping our identity, is it hubris to assume we can choose which experience(s) will and won't shape our identity?
    Here is my argument that we have little power to do so. If one is experiencing mystical transcendence via Kundalini meditation, or experiencing intense euphoria from a full blown psychotic episode, or experiencing trivial conscious boredom while sitting in a redundant work meeting - as it goes, *_"experience is..experience"._*
    Meaning, when reduced to its granular parts, all experience, regardless of its phenomenological state - ultimately is still experience.
    Separating experience from identity is more challenging than one assumes, it is akin to separating black from darkness.

    the simplified model for when the functions turn on is the slot# x 5 , so for instance the ISFPs their third slot Ni turns on at 15 years old. It kind makes you think that the 'born again' (it's very American) phenomena is when the Ni turns on. So if you take the INFPs with 6th slot Ni, their Ni turns on at ~30 yo.

On the positive side, i am more aware of these things being other beings, and not really having anything to do with me, but im not sure how this is to help, when i dont know what to do about this situation, other than ignore it, because these spiritual problems is not something my Kundalini ever taught me how to deal with. My only idea is to just ignore it, as nobody could expect me to deal with something i have no idea how to deal with - but it makes me feel like some cold asshole who dont care. But this is probably just the "mindgames" of the evil genius entities - and if not, then i dont know what to do about it anyway, so who cares, LOL!

      I've so far seen many strange things in the heightened states of kundalini, entities, "people" crouched next to me smoking cigarettes and seeming nervous or vulnerable, golden light beings somewhere "above" calling me to them. There's something about all these visions that seem a bit deceiving to me, as if they always want me to go off on a tangent into some kind of dark or light fantasy world instead of remaining in this world but shining brighter. In other words I can totally relate, I choose to not interact with these entities when they appear, because what I've experienced so far tells me that all the useful development, knowledge, etc. comes spontaneously from "inside", like pure inspiration, not from external fantastical objects. I don't know what they are, but I get the feeling they are a waste of time.

    • @woodnymph3063
      @woodnymph3063 4 месяца назад

      They're not real. It's a manifestation of Fear. Study neurobiology. A lot of entity experiences can be recreated in laboratories by stimulating different parts of the brain. It's a psychological concept. All you need to do is think critically. If you don't believe in them they don't exist. You need to move past this stage to get to the next steps. Trying to repress emotion keeps it trapped in the body. Let all your Fear roll through you. It feels like shaking/quaking, but let it go completely and you will not experience entities anymore.
      Edit: The reason Jesus/Jehovah work in this situation is because a lot of people in Western culture have a relationship of trust and love with these figures. Love and trust are stronger emotions than Fear. Use whatever you need to to let go of Fear and move into a higher emotional state.

Seek Him and He will provide you with the answers you need, with the comfort of the Holy Spirit, and with peace that surpassess all understanding. Not this false anxiety driving "processes".

    This is the wrong way as the world should be seen as a grave and females like fowls of the air above the trees for the medusa snakes they really are.
    ◄ Ezekiel 13:6
    Their visions are false and their divinations a lie. Even though the LORD has not sent them, they say, “The LORD declares,” and expect him to fulfill their words.
