London Underground: Circle and District Lines
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 июл 2024
- This film features some of the subsurface division of the London Underground system, the Circle and District Lines in Central London.
The subsurface lines are built right beneath the surface by the cut-and-cover method. Sometimes, the route is even laid out in a trench with some beautiful brick stone walls.
The film starts at Paddington, which is a busy station, also connecting to National Rail services for the Great Western Mainline.
We then move to High Street Kensington, where the Edgware Road branch of the District Line diverges from the Circle Line.
Next up is Westminster, which is by the River Thames. It is completely underground and is served by the Upminster branch of the District Line. Other stations include Temple, Mansion House and Monument, which are all on the southern part of the Circle Line’s circular route.
Monument station also features the famous “Mind the Gap, Please” announcement, which can be heard prominently in the film.
Rolling stock that can be seen in this film is modern S stock, which is used on most Circle and District Line trains. Some trains of the Upminster branch of the District Line are also operated with old D stock, which is also featured in the film.
Enjoy!

This is why I adore England with how they treat their transportation.
1.Clean stations
2.I can't even tell those trains are that old! They look so clean!
3.Nice people everywhere
4.Always building to expand
I get why we can't get this is New York, we are A LOT harder to maintain, but I wish we had the strength of infrastructure that London has on a level we need. :(
Erm, we’ve got MAJOR transport problems. Won’t list them here as I can’t be bothered. You can read up on them.
non lamentarti di New York, la metropolitana di Roma fa piangere
We are proud!
TheRenaissanceman65 fake news lah, the oldest rn is the bakerloo line 1972 stock
@@randz2654 Stupid Idiot
We’re talking about the Sub-Surface line not the Tube Lines
Stations on each line
Bakerloo: 25
Central: 49
Circle: 36
District: 60 (highest)
Hammersmith & City: 29
Jubilee: 27
Metropolitan: 34
Northern: 50
Piccadilly: 53
Victoria: 16
Waterloo & City: 2 (lowest)
And I thought northern line has the highest
Oh, the first three lines of Bakerloo, Central and Circle all have a square number of stations. Coincidence? I think not.
@@particleonazock2246 Victoria line too
Those clickety clack noises D Stock makes when arriving and leaving Westminster - Gold ♥♥♥♥♥
Same with the C stock
I traveled to London from Los Angeles going on two years ago as of this summer, and this was one of the ways that London was so memorable for me, it was absolutely nothing like back home for me in many positive ways. We do have the LA Metro, which I haven't heard good things about and stops aren't nearly as thorough and convenient, so until that trip I'd never realized the wonders public transport could have. I spent a LOT of time on this line, especially in High Street Kensington station, which makes me so nostalgic. Even though I associate the chimes and the "Mind the gap" with being jet lagged like hell, I really do adore the underground and this line especially
Cool looking subway trains ya'll have in London and station to
The S Stock is so beautiful!
It sounds like the victoria line
Yes
And it is beautiful
Absolutely
@@Karolluzak1 yes thas is beautiful!
My first ride on London Underground was on the Circle line. Tube stock was older than current stock. Brings back memories😀😀♥️
Only just discovered your uploads and there awesome. I used to visit London at least twice a year but unfortunately due to health issues I won't ever visit again but at least now I can get my London transport fix
I'm french and I LOVE England !!! I've been at Paddington
1:29 I agree with you i love the sound of them
Honestly the Jubilee line is not the only favorite of mine in the network. I also like the sub-surface ones as well. They are interesting as well along with the Jubilee.
I recently stumbled on one of your clips. Since then I have been watching others whenever I have time. I haven't enjoyed a rainy day alone at home so much since I was five years old :) THANK YOU!
+Jim Bradley Such nice words, thank you! I am glad I could make your rainy days more enjoyable. :)
I think they should've kept some D-STOCK for service during weekends and off peak
I don’t know, it doesn’t seem like a great idea
Thank you for these videos!
I stay in Paddington every time I visit London. You're making me miss London. Thanks. Lol
Great video, really enjoyed this one, Thanks for posting.
The thumbnail where is similar to Notting Hill Gate makes to remember me the transfer from central line to district line when I went studying abroad last year.
I have felt nostalgia:)
Well done on another great looking video ! Thanks, I enjoy these a lot !
Glad you enjoy them!
I love stock trains
I noticed that the Circle (Via Victoria) and the District lines use the lower level underground station of Paddington with the Bakerloo line, while the Hammersmith and City and the Circle line via Kings Cross, operate a separate station by the National Rail platforms.
Love the S stock trains
the 2 dead end tracks in high street kensington (platforms 3-4) are for the trains to kensington olympia
6:43 lol
6:35 LOL
LOL
"I'm sorry sir."
Yeah it was 2015 but i wont argue😁😁
Do all trains have the same width on london underground lines ?
S stock is soo pretty
And We call it Metropolitan line
s7 or s8
4:48 the mind the gap phrase worked really well
looks like the trains move so slow...
Jamie Berry And also, the S stocks (7 and 8) are slow at departing, compared to others such as the Northern and Jubilee lines
@eLiTE Twistyy г
Nice video!, S stocks are the best trains in all London Underground
I think if we look carefully far away in the in the distance on the North bound, you can see Edgware Road
Every stock in the LU is my favourite and my most favourited amongst all is the 1996 stock
+Crystal Mover (Of Greater Anglia) Ah, I find the sound of the traction control on the 1996 stock somewhat weird. Especially when the train is coming to a halt, the sound abruptly stops but the train is still in motion.
+Luftschlange Thats because it uses an AC traction motor with fixed AC frequencies. When you hear the motor suddenly changing sounds, its changing phase to a high frequency. The lowest phase probaly doesnt have any noise which is why it goes silent before it stops.
Great
Sehr gelungene und ruhige Aufnahmen!
+metr0p0Iitain Danke! :-)
Excellent video my friend, you won another entry, I wanted to know what are the differences between Tube Stock and S-stock.
Well done ! all subtitles are very informative and useful, but not too many or intrusive to allow following the action !

俺、幼い頃ノーザンラインを中心によく乗ってたんだけど昔の思い出が新しく生まれ変わったみたいだぜ!👍
Shame the platforms didn't fit for the D stock. The D Stock never ran on the District line to Edgware Road, so they used the Circle line C stock instead. Before the S stock became more common
0:52 the last car of the train doesn’t look like it’s in the station.
Short Platform
Ye
I still prefer the D stock trains on the District Line.
I subscribe your channel.
you should do Sloane square station
Well done again (I just watched the second half) with soundtrack upon titles and black image, very professional !
Those platforms are so narrow, in comparison with Budapest metro, for example, though the ridership is much greater in London…
And I thought NYC subway is slow...
they siund like the 2009 stock on the victoria
8:00 in video: geez so many people inside the train
In the early 1900's,the Hammersmith and city, metropolitan, circle and district line were steam trains
I know everything about trained and I'm nine years old
What is your favorite London Underground stock?
+Trainboy350 Not sure, I like the S stock and the 1972 stock on the Bakerloo Line. :-)
+Luftschlange Yeah I like the S stock.
D-stock and s stock
0:47 SQUEAKY BRAKES
They should have left the stock trains as they wear with the different models
My favourite stocks are the 1992, 1996, 2009, S, C69, and D78 tube stocks
I have been paddington station and i saw paddington bear it was REAL !!!! Realy
0:30 wrong, the new york subway is build like the sub surface lines in London ;)
Tube is top! but it quite expensive
£1.50 is expensive to you?
at 10:35 on video - you said Monument station on text - but its wrong - its should be mansion house
+Andrew Johson You're right, I guess I wasn't paying attention when putting up the subtitles.
+The Original Lundun Geeza Cool, I'll check it out the next time I'm there. :-)
Did anyone give you trouble when you were filming? I heard the London underground doesn't really appreciate people filming.
+Colin McCue Nobody gave me trouble. In fact, I asked one of the guards on the platform, and he told me it was okay as long as I wouldn't use tripods or flashes.
+Luftschlange lol you accidentally typed the wrong caption in the video: it should be Mansion House instead of Monument
+VincentKoh LUMCFan I know, and it's burnt in :-(
you showed mansion house and then said it was monument and London bridge is closer to London bridge
also the track at mansion house is no longer there
Cool Transport this is old. You can tell by the D-Stock trains.
District line changed to S stock this year
It's 2018
Instinct_Abzz Actually it was about 8 years ago (I think you’re probably right though)
TwistyTwistiiYT actually eight years ago was the metropolitan, district was the last to receive s stocks with the first entering service in 2015 on the district line
The station looks like Fulham Broadway
It's really hard to spot a D stock nowadays
Michael C. it's now ded
Yep, it's extinct now!
£300 quid if you find one operational
BM Know this is old, but £1,000 if you find an operational D stock on the London Underground.
Wait, isn't the last carriage still in the tunnel?! 😂
Kevin Odom If an S8 goes on the Circle, District or Hammersmith and City lines then yes, it would.
@@elitetwistyy9735 Thanks for letting me know. Kind of reminds me of the old South Ferry station in New York City's system. It was a circle shaped terminus, where only 5 of the 10 carriages would fit in. (Since closed, now the new South Ferry station replaces it, and is a straight track/platform station that accommodates all 10 carriages).
Kevin Odom Yeah, I think that new station was well needed 😆
Sounds like 2009 stock
Sorry to be an anorak but the D stock first came into service in 1973 not 1980
BRTM
Incorrect, the D stock were designated D78 ( 1978 was when they were designed/commissioned)
It was around 1980 when they were first introduced into passenger service on the District Line.
S stock
D stock
People in London can be proud of their subway!
It's called the tube or the Underground here
People there are so orderly.... If you are in London please film Kings Cross
Maybe I will, I'll be in London for a couple more weeks.
Soon enough, you won't be able to tell the District, Circle, and Hammersmith and City lines apart, because they'll all be using the fucking S stock. They want to standardise rolling stock, when one of the signature features of the Underground, has been its variety of stock.
They plan to replace the 1972, 1973, and 1992 stock with the same train, the so called 'New Tube for London'. I'm not sure about the 1995 and 1996 stocks, since they're a lot younger, and I think the Northern and Jubilee lines will need something different.
I just wish that TfL would save more trains as heritage units. They only kept one or two 1938 stocks for heritage running, and pretty much nothing else. A few goes to the Museum and the rest gets scrapped.
Some D Stock are getting saved for use as DMU's in the North. They'll still essentially be D Stock, but will lose much of what they are. It's possible some of the old deep level tubes will be saved for use on the Isle of Wight, but the future of that line is really sketchy right now. Soon enough, trainspotting on the Tube will be pointless. Why go trainspotting the exact same rolling stock on different lines? You only need to go to the Central Line once, film the NTfL, and there you go, you have all the footage you need for the Bakerloo, Central, and Piccadilly Lines. And they're planning on using them for FORTY years!
It's really damn depressing, because they'll NO variety on the tube for fucking half my life. Trainspotting on the tube will be DEAD, because there will be three, maybe four types of train running on the ENTIRE network. And then it's all change in the 2050's. I'll be in my 60's when they bring in new trains to the tube when the 2009, S and NTfL stock needs replacing.
I've got to stop now, I'm depressing myself
I wish they'd at least colour the poles on them for each line like every other tube train! Or at least have poles that changed colour with LEDs to give them some individuality.
I think the NTFL won't be as simple as they make it sound, the lines they are thinking of making a single stock for are very different in terms of layout and condition. The same issue is why the 1995 and 1996 tubes are actually very different apart from looking similar. I think something similar will probably happen with NTFL where we'll have 3 near identical trains that are all engineered differently and so sound and ride differently to suit their environment. It would be pretty short sighted and stupid if they didn't do this to be honest because the thing wouldn't ride as well as the trains it was replacing. They have a real opportunity to turn monotony into making the new train the best bits of what its replacing here! I hope they ditch the narrow windows though and continue with the 1992's big windows though, that'll be a welcome change definitely. Also if they could retain the booth seating as seen on the 1972's that would be awesome. I'd also like to see the new one look like the 1972/1967s but that isn't going to happen because that styling is VERY 1960's. Though one could argue they could take a NBFL approach to it given that the 1967, 1972 and 1973 stocks are what come to mind when you think of tube trains and go for a retro styling.
Reddsoldieryes but any of the trains could be ran on any of the lines so if you paint a district line train then that train could still be used on the Hammersmith and city line
I enjoy tube spotting as much as the next tube spotter, but realistically we can't complain that our (frankly niche) hobby is being superceded by progress. This is London, the greatest city in the world. It's using trains and services that can't handle the demands of the people it services, and that's not really on. It might be a bit boring, but history never stops being made, and people will see this era as the switch from outdated sardine cans to air-conditioned, faster, more reliable tube services. TFL make these changes for the greater good.
Well you just look at the schedule. I used to do that in Spain when the Rodalies de Catalunya lines R1 and R4 used the same damn type of train, which was Renfe 447 units.
still_guns I hate the S7/S8 trains.
Who never been high park.
video chapters, hmmmm... maybe luftschlange is alive
Great videos, far too much on-screen commentary. It is very distracting.
+PinkLaffs I took your suggestion and I am putting the commentary into the closed captions for newly-uploaded videos, so it’s easy to turn them off in case you don’t want to see them.
mmm! as for me, subtitles like these are perfect…
The woman look spicious.
I'm expert at trains barking via hamersmitth high street kensington platform 6 and 7
Just wondering, if London Underground can afford new rolling stock such as the *S* stock, why don't they also invest in automated announcements like the ones in New York, won't it be alot easier than having the platform crew do the announcements? I'm new to the Underground so my apologies if I'm getting this info terribly messed up but thanks in advance =)
Eric Ng There are automated announcements in almost every station. In some of the busier stations and during peak times there are people on platform to monitor the flow of peopel
The S stock has full automated announcements in the trains.
D stock is no more

This was a good quality video, and I gave you a thumbs UP, but try adding voice over, it will make your videos top shelf
Where did you heard that? That must be rubbish, I've been filming there million times and never anybody said anything.
looks like a little town
Род
Not so civilised at rush hour!
Oh rush hour gets MUCH worse than this on the tube lines
sometimes it is so crowded you can't get on the train
It's civilised in the morning rush hour. But it's literally over the top in the evenings
I miss the D-Stock I hate the S-Stock it's super ugly and doesn't even fit inside the stations.
D stock doesn't fit inside the stations beyond North of High Street Kensington to Edgware Road
