I love my grinder(Oregon 520), contrary to what people say, you can get a chain to cut as good as a brand new one, with not much difficulty....I used to swear by a hand file, and I still do hand file some...you can take a very small amount of material off with this grinder, just like a file....
Dan Henderson. I've seen the clones. Not bad but I had always had good luck with the Oregon (tecomec) machines. I read a lot of reviews on the clones and you get what you pay for. They are good for the average homeowner who occasionally sharpens their own saws but I did a lot of homework on these before I bought it.
Dan Henderson That's what I do. I just did a few 3/8 20" full chisel Stihl chains using a 30 degree top plate and 60 degree grinding angle with the10 degree down angle and these came out real good.
take a chain that's on its last. sharpening and put the 10deg set back on it and try it. I think you'll find a lot faster cut no matter what wood. as for staying sharp longer. I never had a problem. chips will fly
I try to be careful when cutters are worn so I don't grind into the chain stop. I find the 10 degree down angle works very well on full chisel chains. Did a 20" Woodland Profull chisel today using a 30 degree top plate angle and a 60 degree grinding angle with the 10 degree down angle and that thing ripped through a large log of wild cherry pretty quick. It was on a Stihl MS 441 and that threw big chips a good ten feet or so.
I use the exact same grinder, After the local guy doubled the cost of sharps, I fired him on the spot and the machine paid for itself the very first time I used it...(got a LOT of chain),

I've sharpened chains for 18 years collectively at 2 previous jobs (first was a tool rental the second was a local repair shop) and both places had 511A's. I"m starting a small shop in my garage qand got a pretty good deal on this from northern tool. my only gripe is on thinner chains the lever to lock the chain wants toi backj off slightly so I sometimes have to keep a hand on it. maybe because it's still new and hasn't worn in yet. Eventually, i am going to buy a CBN wheel for sharpening because they sharpen quicker with less heat and do not change shape as you use them like the stock pink wheels.
There's a guy on here who demo'ed a 511A qand he got his wheel from Diamond "Wheel Inc. I looked them up and they are quite exp[ensive. Like over $100 a shot but you can get like 4000 sharpenings from a single wheel and they do not really require "dressing" but they do come with an aluminum oxide stick to clean the abrasive edge should it become plugged.

I see you mention that you used the 10 degree down angle but you vise looks level and it also looks like you haven't adjusted the head grinding angle to the 10 degree setting line rather than the normal degree line.Most if not all chisel chain is sharpened at 25 degree's and semi chisel is at 30 degree's.
SuperMrcat that'd because the chain in this demonstration is a 3/8 low profile semi chisel sharpened with no down angle and the standard 30 and 60 degree settings for top plate and head angle.
It is wrong, they used to be reversable until oh&s muppets got involved. You can reverse for the left hand cutters by starting it with a drill. Several examples on yt. It's is worth it.

Well done video. I’ve seen fellas that have done videos for years and came nowhere near the job you’ve done explaining about this tool.
Oregon grinders are made by Tecomec in Italy. The aftermarket clone Chinese version of this is under a hundred bucks and is damn near as good.

Pull down slightly on the chain while clamping. It keeps the cutters in the same spot and holds them tighter.

WRONG......if motor does not spin in BOTH DIRECTIONS you are burr-ing one complete side of teeth
Air Port well if it’s “wrong” then Oregon would have made that a DUAL DIRECTION ROTATION SETUP!!
If you use a drill to start it you can get the motor to spin the opposite direction. Saw with my own eyes on youtube.
