Because they want all forms of relationships to be valid. By stripping away the gendered language they can push their ideology for inclusion of more unusual relationships.
To further add, language has power. By stripping away words that have powerful meaning and attachment (wife, husband, etc.) they break down the bonds tying people together on a societal and subconscious level.

I admit that I'm still quite _naive_ about the Warhammer 40K setting- but I read and listen to the Lore and the Fan Fiction, and though I haven't played the tabletop (was always more of a D&D player- to be honest) I do have some miniatures and a couple figures. I'm leaning more every day- but I can't know all the Politics that go on between the Fandom and GV/Black Library- so forgive my ignorance.
Because Custodes are the top of the top and they want scenerios where the "dumb man Space Marine" gets to be corrected or chastised by a female.

It actually sickens me that GW has sunk this low. They've made more bad decisions with 40k since female custodes, they've even started revising some of the art and models for age of sigmar. I routinely check Goodwill and Value Village for vintage camera lenses. Other donated tech tends to be in the same showcase. Yesterday, I saw that the entire showcase was donated Warhammer games and paraphernalia.
