@@joerules829 It's crazy how much the states shifted in just 30 years, to think that back in 2004 republicans had a winning streak in Virginia going all the way back to Nixon, and George W Bush won Georgia by around 16% in 2004
God it's nice to see an actual non-partisan comment section for once with people just respecting each others' opinions and discussing political history like wow
Agreed. Modern political discourse is usually awful. People are way too partisan!

I think a lot has to do with the 2 candidates. They were both perfectly reasonable and sound choices for President. You could go to sleep at night knowing you were in capable hands with either guy. I think '96 with Clinton vs. Dole was the last election like that. Wouldn't most people agree that George W Bush and Al Gore were shitty choices in 2000? One was a complete moron and the other had zero charisma.
Because at this point this is history. No one cares about 1992 especially in the current political climate. It was an election between 2 very “establishment” candidates.
This is the last time that montana went blue. It was competitive in the bill clinton era and in 2008. This was the last time kansas, wyoming were lean states and were competitive too
If there is a scenario where Ron DeSantis wins the 2024 Republican Nominee and Donald Trump runs as a third party candidate, 2024 will be 1992 on steroids.
@@bighand1530I don’t think Trump will be nominated. His policies aren’t in line with the Republican Party and he was barely nominated in 2020. There are too many Christians and conservatives in the Republican Party to ever nominate someone like Trump again. We saw what he did to this country.
@@benjamincornia7311 Trump has a clear lead in the Republican primary polls, with there being little indication he won't win it. How was he also "barely" nominated in 2020, when he secured the nomination with ease, as is typically the case with incumbents too?
The Electoral College should have been done away with years and years ago. It is not all necessary in the modern world. Our Founding Fathers didn’t have computers to quickly tabulate the votes.
Yes, I remember it well. I was watching the returns that night, and I saw that while, President Bush was leading in the popular vote, Clinton had the lead in electoral votes. Those were VERY early returns, and Clinton ultimately won both in the Electoral College (the only one that matters and the popular as well. He won 370 evs to Bush's 168.

If things are going well come '24, the Democrats ought to retain the White House. Probably won't be Biden; more likely it'll be Kamala Harris.

I thought Clinton was a great President but so was Bush. I wonder though if the nation would have been better off long-term had Bush won in 1992 and kept the GOP moderate. Clinton could have run in 1996 and won, re-elected in 2000, he would have guided the nation through 9/11 had it happened.
It’s because they didn’t have the same high quality of confidence requirement for the projections. They used to get away with it because all the elections from 1980-1996 were landslides, and when there are landslides, trends will carry over to more states. That’s why they got burned in 2000 with their early calls of Florida and New Mexico. Also, early voting and absentee voting were not nearly as prevelant as it is today
@@blackbox3008 Yeah, back in the older election nights, they were more patient. I think the press realized it could weaponize results to affect the West Coast (almost always in Dems favor)!!!
"Vermont normally goes republican", this was probably the last time this was said.

And West Virginia going Democrat was usual back then. Reagan didn’t carry it in 80’ and Bush didn’t win it in 88’.
And Bernie sanders was still able to win elections there

At the end there with the popular vote at the time: Bush leading with 44 percent, but had only Indiana in his column in the electoral college.

Well Georgia and New Hampshire almost did not.
Go back 8 years prior and they were calling certain states before they even shut the polls.
George Bush I weakened the economy. He and Reagan were 2 different people. That’s why Clinton won and rightfully so.
Georgia and New Hampshire decided by a mere point, called right away for Clinton
